Everyone knows that we have lots of money to throw at FA's and Sloane was a Saints fan, but neither of those two things mean anything. He's just saying shit to get ratings.

brads unbelievably hit and miss. but when he hits he really does hit. his call on the doggies and mccartney was middle stump death rattle material. likewise his run down on bluey

but this one sounds like his other stuff. if he's right though then boy oh boy!!!

midfield would be shaping up very nicely if we add in sloane (and don't lose steven).
dunstan, billings, acres, steven, armo and sloane as well as mckenzie, newnes, wright, webster and ross rotating through looks very, very good

We will have the dough, we had built a war chest for Cameron or Boyd, obviously one is contracted elsewhere and who knows what type of deal JC will command.
Sloane is an interesting prospect, could get him through the preseason draft possibly for zero.

I actually took a flyer on Sloane for Brownlow - got the impression Dangerfield has already partly checked-out so don't see him polling as high in 2015. Take Paddy out of the equation, nicking votes, and Sloane seems a major vote-getter.

Would love him at the Saints, but I thought the Crows had him sorted.

What type of player is Sloane? I used to think he was a bit of a 'heart and soul' type inside mid. Not flashy but far from a hack.

Has he added the polish and spread to his game? Or am I just no reading it right?

Nah I'd say he still lacks a bit of flair. But he's possibly the best ball-getter in the game.

No expert here but to me he plays like heppel, but harder at the player and ball.

He's not quite as big, but honestly, and this is a fairly big call, he reminds me of Lenny.

Not overly quick, not silky-skilled, but just gets the ball and gets the ball, is harder than a cat's head and you'd follow him through fire.

A best and fairest winner at only 23 and apparently a great bloke; he's a jet.

I was going to write more or less the same thing, but wondered if it was blasphemy. I am sure he's the closest thing to Lenny still in the league, but again not quite got the flair - he'd never do a Lenny double-fake sidestep.

Probably quicker than Len though.

Absolute star midfielder. Wins the hard ball and uses it well, would be over the moon if we got him. Inside/outside ball is pretty even like all good mids.

I don't believe it though, I think he's just made a lazy connection of big bucks and former Saints supporter. Anyone can do that.

Cheers for the replies. Ive watched plenty of footy over the years but just haven't really paid close attention to Sloaney other than to know he would be a very good get.

Where would he rate in a field including say, Shiel and Treloar?

Probably a hair's breadth shy of Treloar (but with more runs on the board) and better than Shiel.

Sloane is Lenny reincarnated in the wrong jumper.... Have always said it & still do

The other comparison I think is quite apt is Ducker Selwood, although Sloane isn't as dishonest or unpleasant. Consider;

Joel SELWOOD
26, 182cm, 86kg
184 games (115 goals)

2014 averages:
13 kicks
12.6 handballs
4.5 marks
6 tackles
1 goal

Rory SLOANE
24, 183cm, 85kg*
100 games (62 goals)

2014 averages:
12.2 kicks
11.5 handballs
4.8 marks
6.7 tackles
0.6 goals

*81kg on club website, but 85kg everywhere else.

He reminds himself of Lenny. I mean, Sloane has specifically said that Lenny was his favourite player growing up, and he used Hayes as the model for his own game.
