If we trade for Sloane it will be on our terms as he's out of contract at the end of the year. I'd package up Murdoch and another player and ship them off to Adelaide.
We won't trade our first pick if it's in the top 3 unless it's for a Shiel and maybe steak knives like Bugg or Buntine.
The Melbourne based player I mentioned earlier is a very good, consistent mid without being a superstar.

Is the Melbourne based player out of contract?

According to above he is contracted but could it be David Zhakarakis? I have a feeling he is sick of the b/s around Essendon and coukd be persuaded to leave...?

Just imagine the chaos that will engulf this board if we don't get one of these players this year.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
and we get a player like balic/tucker/parish

OOOO NOOOO

Does WHE come into the steak knife category, considering he is playing NEAFL? :p

I really like Shiel, but I really like the two Darcy's too, so I'd want something decent coming back even with Shiel - be it a middle of first round for our second round swap or a decent player. I don't want to be a dumping ground for their fringe players with limitations such as someone like Whiley though.

I still reckon our first rounder and second rounder could become Shiel and Sloane if they both wanted to come to us. A PP, however unlikely, would be even better!

Lot of assumptions here...

Aish may not want to go back to Adelaide...

GWS cut a deal? We were saying that last year.

Carlton is the smokey this year IMO. Will be willing to trade out some big names, and good old SOS will have a pretty good relationship with GWS players. If they sack Malthouse early, they could go with a top 4 pick and a few decent players to deal with.

I think our ability to land a big name without FA this year relies heavily on a priority pick, however remote the chance. Obviously an early first rounder would be ideal and we could simply trade to ADL for Sloane and maybe a later pick (or Lyons who we were rumoured to be into last year?) or GWS for Treloar/Shiel (& Buntine as steak knives would be handy too).

More realistically I think though is an end of first rounder PP. Say we end up with picks 19 and 20. Which club would be willing to trade us their first round selection for those 2 picks? Perhaps a club looking to rebuild via the draft and wanting two higher picks rather than the 1 low-mid one? Carlton/Brisbane/Melbourne? Their first pick might be too low..Maybe Richmond instead? What is 19 and 20 worth? Say pick 6-8 alone or maybe pick 11-12 and pick 39-40?

How about this for a 3 way:

Saints lose #19PP, #20, #56 (and Saunders/Curren if required - with Sloane & Parish IN where do Saunders/Curren fit in if they can't get a game now?)
Saints gain Sloane, #69

Blues lose #6, #69
Blues gain #19PP, #20, #56 (and Saunders/Curren if required - if Blues want more young midfield depth)

Crows lose Sloan
Crows gain #6

Our draft/trade period then looks like this with 3 live picks:
Trade IN - Sloane
Pick 1 - Parish
Pick 38 - Rice/Collins/Skinner
Pick 69# - Upgrade Sinclair or take a draft slider if available.
PSD Buntine (If we decide we need another HBF)

Happy days! :)

That's great to hear, though really after the past couple of years it's nearly impossible to be afraid that our recruiting team will go wrong, they've done a stellar job.

As for the mid, thoughts drifted initially to Langford, but not sure why he would leave Hawthorn. I certainly wouldn't leave them, even if it cost me $$, just giving up too much.

I'm assuming it's not a soon to be Free Agent (in which case I would say Steele), so wild guess, Ben Cunnington, even though he comes OOC in 2017.

Hopefully White plays some games this year and shows something.. gains a bit of currency. Besides him I can't any other of our 'fringe' players holding much trade value.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-plans-usstyle-draft-days-20150513-gh13zg.html

An American-style interactive national draft extravaganza is being shaped by the AFL with the first stages to be unveiled to the 18 club chiefs on Thursday.

With the AFL virtually settled on an identical new and live bidding system for father-son and northern academy players opening with a 20 per cent points discount on top picks, it is understood the competition will move to introduce in 2016 the controversial trading of future draft picks with an expected two-year limit.

Trade period is about to get a whole lot better.

Gonna go out on a limb and suggest 2 potential outside midfielders who currently spend time as medium-sized defenders in the TAC.
Brayden Fiorini (Northern Knights) and Lachie Tardrew (Bendigo Pioneers).
Both racking up solid performances with quality disposal.
Might be worth a third round pick. :thumbsu:

Paul Seedsman's OOC at the end of the year (I think); 190cm with plenty of pace, fits our age targets at 23 and just won the Anzac Medal without being a 'superstar'...

Would happily have him on board.

The only bidding regarding Aish will be financials.

That's what I meant, both clubs will be trying to win over Aish, not bidding against each other with Brisbane.

I think the only ones who believed the Cameron to Adelaide rumours were Adelaide supporters but it seems everyone else thinks there's something in the saints offer to Sloane.... So I'm not sure that example is a good one

Really? Haven't seen the Sloane rumour exist anywhere outside of this thread and the equivalent on the Adelaide board. It wasn't on radio or tv, it just popped up as a surprise from one of your posters... last week? I think? Doesn't seem to have legs anywhere else. The Cameron thing got mentioned a couple times on 5AA, but again that rumour reproduction was entirely sourced from BigFooty.

Gibbs was clearly his agent using us and the media to get a better deal at Carlton, he was never leaving - and having seen how content he is to coast out what's left of his career at Carlton, I'm glad we didn't get him.

Assume Sloane nominates St Kilda ala Tom Boyd, and Sheil want's to come home to any Vic club.

Would it be possible to wrangle Pick 2-4 For Shiel and GWS pick 9-14, then on trade that pick to Adelaide for Sloane?

If that pick was #1, and this is 2014 Shiel we're talking about, then yes, but Dylan has stepped up his year. Would give up Pick 2 for him.

We don't get SEN over here, SEN Adelaide only lasted a year before going into administration in 2005

go read the dangerfield thread on your forum, theres an interview with our CEO up there

3 days before that there was a post about a rumour on 5aa

its hardly been a saints board thing

Where do you think 5AA gets all their rumours from? ;) They have a guy who phones in called "Rumour Ralph" who basically repeats what he read on BigFooty and Twitter this week, which then gets doubled back onto BigFooty and Twitter. Self sustaining rumours with no substance.

I've no doubt your club has approached Sloane's manager, and I've no doubt our CEO knows you have, but I'm also certain every other club in the competition has approached his manager, and Dangerfield's manager. It doesn't really mean anything.

i think you're over simplifying it and brushing it off

go listen to the interview with our CEO. if there was no substance in the rumour he would have brushed it off completely and said no outright. we've done this in the past with some players. taylor hunt etc were examples of this

i'm not saying we have him signed, i'm just saying we'd be talking to his manager etc. and it would not surprise me if we had made an offer to his manager
