Maybe taking SPP at 12 is the "aggressive trading / drafting" the club was talking about?

If we pick up a weak, outside runner or a 3rd tall back or forward I won't be happy.
SPP will last till around 20 so I doubt we are aiming for him or else we would have down traded surely

Different scenario brah. Lewis would have been more expensive than that had Hawthorn not dicked him around to the point where he wanted out no matter what. Once he's openly said he'd like to join melbourne and they'd reneged once already, demons were always going to get him cheap town.

And i'm basing that off absolutely nothing because i'm not part of Hawthorns recruiting team and i have no idea what they tried to do. Before you ask.

That's largely my point. They're all different scenarios. Hibberd wanted to leave and Melbourne chased him. MacKenzie didn't want to lease and no one seemed particularly interested in changing his/our minds.

You (or Spaceclef) can't just point to one trade in isolation and say " Look what club X got for player Z, that's proof we could've got more for MacKenzie". It's a bit more nuanced than that

Mitchell WON a B&F played almost all year and netted pick 88. Masto would of gone pick 386

How old is Masten compared to Mitchell and Lewis?

You are comparing apples, oranges and bananas.

Hawks were looking to moving on a 34 year old, then his mate didn't appreciate that and left for a three year deal he knew he would never get from the Hawks.

Hibbard went for 29. Masten is around the similar mark depending on who wants the player and what pick they have.

swannies or Underdog did Logue play midfield in that round 23 reserves game? How did he look? Reports make it sound like he played ruck...

His beep and 3km trial numbers indicate really good endurance, while his repeat sprints and standing vertical would indicate the explosiveness. Definitely a great athlete, not sure about a great midfield prospect though.
Swans were asked to play him in the midfield at various times throughout the year, I am told.
He played in there in a couple of league matches for short bursts. Looked a little lost, to me.
Looks better in defence to me.

This has me worried...It sounds a little like Yeo in the fact athletically and size wise he's perfect but as a mid, he's mentally inept.
The Fyfe/Bont effect I suppose.

Thought Yeo spent a fair bit of his juniors as a winger, but spent his time in brissy as a backman.

Let me put it this way, I wouldn't recruit him as a midfielder. He may develop into one, I don't know. I would recruit him as a defender, because his contested marking is very good, he is very athletic and if he develops into more than that, then that's a bonus.

I know mate, I'm just stirring him up. Also think you meant to say apples, Oranges and spuds

He'd need a rest after running through the banner with that result

I get the footballers before athletes bit but you aren't going to survive as an AFL player with that level of fitness. It's poor
What was Cyril's beep test at his combine?

Fitness is pretty much the easiest fix for players, unless they have health problems.

You can't fix non footballers brain.

Who else thinks ye club might not pick up a mid with our first rounder? According to crazy voz we are just going best available. This for real or just not wanting to give too much away? They probably think we should draft 2 rucks and a KPD right?

To be honest we could do with another young kpd and kpf on our list,we need to develop a kpf to take over from Kennedy in the next few years and Schofield and McKenzie aren't getting any younger

Ye I won't complain much with what we get. Just hope we get a mid with pick 12. Rather use the later picks for projects, plus isn't next year meant to be a better draft for KPs? Hopefully Adams still wants to come over next year and we can draft a KPF and/or ruck.

If we draft a gun KP forward or defender this year what happens if he is ready to go but doesn't get a game because of Kennedy barrass etc and wants to leave.meanwhile we are still struggling for A grade mids teams took in the late teens of this draft...that's my worry anyways..

More like lemons, oranges and bananas, I would suggest!

Yep, plus we have a few serious prospects in Duggan, Nelson, Pharto, Cole who aren't best 22 but have the talent to do so.

We need at least 1 of them to take that next step and really entrench themselves in the 22 - would take our team nek level too.

Duggan is the key - his vision, skills, leadership and toughness is what we need - lifts the team when he plays IMO, much more than Hurn does on field.

FWIW I believe its time for a captain change - we need Shuey or Kennedy to captain us. Hurn does not rally the troops on field. He's failed when we needed a leader to stand up the most.

This doesn't seem like a draft for talls.

I think we'll take Bolton with our first.

Interesting.
Hubbard fitten a real need for Melbourne who have plenty of young mids so the opportunity cost of not using 29 in the draft was not significant.

Masten doesn't fit any need in any club as soft, smallish outside mids with poor composure and average skills are available in the draft in the 4th and 5th round every year.

Out of the predicted available options it's still SPP for mine, even if Twomeys reports imply we're reaching. Ticks all the boxes.

Bolton is too outside, very slight and is going to stay that way. Logue isn't a midfielder. I'd like a big explosive body in our engine room.

SPP also plays like Dustin Martin i've heard.

When fit Masten can accumulate high 20 to 30 possession games. How many 4th or 5th rounds have done that? Feel free to name a couple.

Masten needs others to do the hard inside work no question. He isnt fast and doesn't kick goals.

What he does well is run all day and accumulate. He's icing on the cake.
