Grahams disposal for a inside mid is pretty good really. One game in the Champs he had 34 disposals at 76% efficiency

He may well have had a good game at the Champs but he does have a reputation for letting himself down with sloppy disposal.

Surprised that there hasn't been much talk of Venables. Guy sounds like a gun. Anyone know if we have expressed any interest?

Good footballer , no doubt about that however I think his draft range is in the 15-23 range.

I haven't heard that we have been linked to him .

He was decent right through the Champs maybe a little inconsistent. But i give inside mids a bit of grace as alot of the time they are under pressure and build up alot of lactic acid in their legs by having players hanging off them all game.....In saying that i don't think Graham would be a good fit for us is too slow

What part of the most penalised player in the AFL for holding the ball in season 2016, don't you get.
Every time he is tackled he gets pinged for HTB as he has zero strength.
Easy to coach against as he runs away from physical contact for rear of being tackled and coughing up another free kick.
When he is in vicinity of the ball opposition let him get the ball and then pounce and tackle him causing a turnover.

The game is more and more about contested possession and clearances at stoppage's and thats an area where if you can neither break a tackle or lay a tackle then you become a serious liability to the team.

Thats the place where Masten now finds himself .

Hopefully we draft well enough on Friday night that he becomes no more that a depth player.

Good servant of the Club in the past, but his deficiencies are now proving counter productive and causing anguish to many Eagles fans ..... hence the displeasure with # 7.

As for easing up! No chance , in fact I believe the criticism will only grow in veracity and volume.

Yes I get all that Monocle, agree that he is weak in the tackle, lacking core strength, but everyone has deficiencies. His strengths are what we play to, not his deficiencies. He so often runs when others stand still, and provides an outlet out of the defensive half, so we don't just have to bomb it out, and he keeps linking up play all day. He has good delivery into the F50 - ask JK. It's the opposition coaches that will try and maximize his weaknesses, as all coaches do. But the slanderous comments Masto gets on here are undeserved.

That's a pretty shit draft for us.

He passes over Dylan Clarke and Tom Williamson at our second.

Comments that he wanted to get us a tall prospect but then passes on Brennan Cox and picks Jack Graham who cant hit the side of a barn.

And to top it off he doesn't use our fourth pick.

3/10 for that crappy effort.

Yep, won't fault the Bolton pick, he's somewhat unique, adds speed, x-factor and goal kicking.

If it were me I'd probably go

13: Perryman or Berry
40: Fisher
55: Williamson
7X: Waterman

No bigs, could bid on Watson at 40, but happy with the value there.

I really like him - just because some people have him in a 15+ range doesn't mean he's a bad player.

Had some clutch moments in the Champs which I think shows a lot of character and if he can bring that to WC It'd be huge!

Credited with a burst of power, he'd add so much to our midfield in a similar vain to Shuey.
Can actually play forward as well! That is something massively lacking from our midfield is for a player to sit forward and actually impact.

I'd be so happy to get him - huge ceiling.

I suggest we will not win a flag while Masten is inside our best 25. We need Lord Nelson, Duggan, Sheed, Cole, Partington etc to step up and move him out.

Having gone to a lot of games live, he frustrates the crap out of me. Yes he makes himself available for a defensive outlet pass. Great. But he rarely looks down field and usually ends up kicking the ball deeper into the defensive zone. I appreciate we should look to his strengths but his negative impact on the flow of play is quite noticeable. I would cut him more slack if he was to use this elite endurance to run passed opposition late in each quarter.

But back on topic - if pick 12 = Gallucci = no Masten, then I will shift from my Berry, Brodie, SPP and Schrimshaw camp.

They wont get him. They seem to rate skills highly now which would be from Simpsons experience at Hawthorn.
Despite a lot of Hawthorn mids (Sewell, Lewis, Shiels, Langford) not exactly being elite by foot

The Masten under the microscope thread will be like the Scott Selwood debate thread . I suspect he wont change any of our views then finally he will be gone . But heres hoping he fixes the spaghetti arms and releases the ball before he dazzles himself in a spiralling circle to be caught in the spotlight like a deer .

Agreed! SPP seems to also be rated in the 15 + range, however most want him picked with our first. Venables seems to be rated higher in nearly every phantom draft ive read.

Draft picks: 12, 34, 54, 89, 94 (likely to use four selections)

The Eagles will be hoping a bid for father-son prospect Jake Waterman does not come before their third live selection (No.54) so they can draft the goalkicker with their last pick. That would be the ideal scenario and not without a chance of happening. Quick and athletic WA defender Josh Rotham has been linked to their second pick, and he's a good chance to be available there. They could look to add some more run and drive across half-back and through the midfield with VFL player Luke Ryan, while Bailey Morrish is also a possibility as another dashing defender with a penetrating kick. The Eagles have also recently caught up with ruckman Sean Darcy who could be a project player later in the draft.

Twomey's phantom is up - he has us taking Berry
Just don't know how to react to this??? Seems like he will be a solid player, but a few others I would have loved them to taken a crack at, including SPP, Galluci (despite mixed opinions), Brodie (picked to go before and if available)

Tough year even to pick a phantom draft, but Twomey is generally a pretty accurate

Ok lets agree to disagree on the value of Masten as you rate the collective strengths of his as being greater than the deficiencies.
Where as I view it the other way around.

Imagine shock horror Brodie seeing his name against Freo in the Phantom. Same feeling as you would get falling down a deep and empty hole. He won't be sleeping well tonight.

Also have people saying draft player X - big body. Are we not beyond that sort of thinking?
