Mostly ... Cause of his kick ass Vfl performances.

I'm happy to have a discussion but let's try stay realistic.

The reality is most would of thought Kirby was alright

But would of had a rethink when te 18 year old indigenous lad was bog with dominating 4th quarter performances in the wet vs afl players
With respect I entirely disagree.
Of course you would, you want to extract every last drop of this lemon!

Richmond not doing everything in it's power to get him on the cheap is poor list management..... As per usual

So our draft when you consider our trades look like this:

7. Prestia (Scrimshaw)
26. Caddy (Parfitt)
29. Bolton
45. Nankervis (Maibaum)
53. Graham
72. Garthwaite

Could make a case they are all best 22; Graham would add some options to a midfield with a soft underbelly, Garthy is good option for the spot next To rance and grimes.

The other four pretty much walk in. I heard there was a guy called Kirby, he may had been handy if we snared an extra pick 3rd rounder

Yeah, as it turns out we would have needed to pick him up with 29 or go without Nankervis.
Prefer Nankervis myself.

Kirby looks talented but I question his application. Would have been a perfect rookie pick - boom or bust.

Obviously nankervis or someone tall was required. Hopefully hampson never plays again. Now Maric gets another year he might be good foil off the bench.

On that note with Graham's inclusion another year o development to our younger types hopefully grigg remains at Richmond Vfl too

I agree with you mostly Baph re. Kirby. I'm reconciling myself with the fact that the 4 goal 4th quarter, against Sandy AND at Trevor Barker oval AND on debut at VFL level AND in dreadful conditions, already meant he was going in the draft.

But reading this article, did we do this one ourselves or it came down through AFL.com?

Maybe we could not have published that story, promised him a rookie spot and buried him for the the last game of the year...who knows

What happened to drafting elite kicking skills, actually, we never did get around to it.

Hopefully with a couple seasons under their belt with our new development set up, we have some decent players come through this group.

Excited to see if Bolton and Graham can crack a game in season one.

Yeah classic kicking style was certainly not a priority.

Feel like we went for specialists over utility types this year:
Tiny skillful speedy forward type
Doughty inside mid type
Gangly tall defender type

Our draftees seem to fit perfectly to 'stereotypical' roles. Though Shai to midfield and Garth forward/swing man seems possible.

You'd hope jack rance martin. Cotchin. C Ellis. Vlastuin. Rioli. Prestia.... Maybe. Houli. Short. Lennon do most the kicking.

Did you watch hampson this past season?

There's a thread on the Drafts board that collects data from a lot of phantoms. The poster then worked out who got the best drafts based on where their picks were projected to go V where they went in the actual draft.

Based on this, we actually had the best draft or had the biggest "steals" if you consider where they went.

With this logic you wouldn't need a recruiting department. Just use a formula to calculate the best pick based on all phantom draft predictions out there.

Not to be rude and I respect your opinion but do you really think the club would have less info than you regarding his personal life? They would have spoken to his family, teachers, coaches, team mates and made a decision.

Surely having guys like McIntosh and Roili on the team will help him out as they are also a long way from home.
I live in Perth, and ability wise he's got it all. So why did he get through to 29? He was on channel 9 news after the draft, and didn't really present very well. Character, and family upbringing is such a big thing these days. I think we all hope Bishop is wrong, but ......
