Actually I think the question is a bit different.

If SPS goes before our pick, who else do we want? Where are they going to go. ie. If we really want one of couple of the players who will go top 5 then we don't downgrade. But if we think that those likely to go top 7 or 8 will not work for us then we downgrade. I guess my thoughts are that whilst there is the points system, essentially picks are worth what you can get with them.

People are automatically going to say of course we want want whomever is a genuine top 5 slot. But remember the Winguard controversy. Essentially pick 3 was only useful for port and everyone knew it which is why he slipped. There are lots of reasons that ability makes someone a top 5, 10 whatever but they just will not fit with your club.

I think we'll end up with McCluggage

Barlow is still a class player. In his last 5 full games for Freo (Rounds 10-14, averaged 29.4 disposals per game) he was listed in the match reports as Freo's best twice and 2nd best 3 times.
It does seem to appear that Freo want to use him as trade bait ... which I hate ... Freo are a much better side with him in the starting 22.
Freo's midfield has been a major key to our success in recent years (2013-2015).
I still see Fyfe, Neale, Mundy & Barlow as elite midfielders, classes ahead of Freo's next best inside contested possession midfielders. Connor Blakely arguably shows the most promise, but he is still a fair distance behind those four listed above.

If Barlow does get traded, then Freo need to be rewarded with a late 1st round pick or very early 2nd round pick. Anything less is (for me) an obvious loss by Freo.

You can't be serious. A player you guys are seemingly not offering a contract to is worth a late 1st or early 2nd? You just finished near the bottom of the ladder, no one you guys choose not to keep will have any currency.

I like Barlow, but reality is, if he is traded it will be for some token draft pick at the end of the draft, in goodwill to allow him to go to a club to extend his career.

If he was worth anywhere near what you suggest, there is no way freo would be leaving him out of contract, or letting him go.

McCluggage and SPS look quite similar in my opinion, both skinny and creative but I still believe SPS has more x-factor and McCluggage puts the ball in space like Danyle a bit.

Sam PS is nowhere near as slight as McCluggage. He is much more solid, and inside imo.

Sadly i agree, i think we will get very little for Barlow if anything and it looks like we will be happy to let him go without any fight at all!

[QUOTE="Tayl0r, post: 46456 SPS has Sonny Walters build if we can use Sonny as a comparison so McCluggage must be frail according to Clem's knee.

McCluggage is a twig and SPS doesn't have the typical frame of a inside mid -yet, but that is where he does some of his best work.

You dismiss my idea of Barlow being a late 1st or early 2nd round pick, yet West Coast used pick#17 to trade in Jack Redden in 2015. Really?

I'm crossing my fingers that Barlow is only being shopped around at this stage. Then when it transpires he's worth more to us that the pick/player we'd get in exchange, then we re-sign him for another year.
