Unlike with normal draft picks we have a say in their destiny due to being father son. We can bid or not bid.

We have to wait for a Opposition Bid on Draft Night

Not sorry we passed on Kelly or Stewart, best available at every pick, every time.

In this case you would imagine the slight value you get from FS would be enough to make both of them good value but still have to see what's there on the day.

Stewart would have been handy but it was a tricky one.

Ok just watched my recording. Brown had his quieter game but he was still involved. Tackles hard and throws himself at everything. Takes the game on, he's clean with his hands and has kicked two clutch goals in two of his Championship games (both snaps).

It was good to see Daicos play for the first time televised. He got interview at HT and was blowing so I'd say with his broken hand he's still trying to find some fitness. Had 9 touches at HT and ended up with 14. Good in traffic with a nice sidestep. Lovely skills, nice weighted kicks which I thought should have been expected from being taught by his old man ;) Set shot for goal looks good also. Overall I thought he went pretty well. Don't think he's a crumbing type forward, thought he could have gotten to the feet of the big men a bit more.

Going to be interesting to see what happens with the bidding. On my guy feel Brown will be around 30-45 and Daicos anywhere after that.

Both play a combination of midfield and forward.

They'd probably both need to be forwards or wings for Collingwood if picked. And that's probably where they are both better suited anyway.

Brown was more a forward last year and is becoming more a midfielder this year, so he can do both. Up forward... He'll bring the pressure. Some like his finishing ability but I haven't been all that excited by it - nothing freakish and some inconsistency finishing. He's a real trier which isn't ideal in a forward, but he appears likely to get the most out of himself. So it will be interesting to see given his good numbers up the field, what he can achieve.

Daicos has good quickness, nice user to target. Can finish. Ok but not terrific tackler. Able but not freakish crumber. What is lacking up forward is that dominant ground ball winning ability.

They're both on the improve, but I want more improvement from both by seasons end to be more comfortable if I was to select either/both of them.

Also a shame you can't tack on 10cm on them both while you're at it - Daicos (178cm) and Brown (177cm).

Are you finding though that the sub 180cm is back in vogue a bit.

Little terriers like lachie neale, caleb daniel, paul puopolo etc are very good players.

I think they need to have a stand out skill like pace or goal sense, but i reckon we really lack a nippy 178cm player. Just someone who can get out of sticky situations

Had a couple touches but not overtly noticeable, puts his head over it well needs to get more involved imo.

Reminds me a bit of T.Boak in terms of the way he moves, attack on ball and kicks, has a fair way to go to get to Boaks level obviously and not a direct comparison meant to be taken to extremes like no doubt some will do.
One thing Boak does much better then Brown is get easy ball by hard running forward. Brown gets most his disposals in contested hardball type wins and needs to learn to spread harder and better to get involved in chains or at the end of a forward break the lines "wave" run.
I remember when Gavin Brown first started out the criticism Mathews always had for him was getting easy ball so he sounds like a chip off the old block. Cheers for the review and to everyone else who has given feedback always appreciated.

There is still a place for sub 180cm types in the AFL today. Mostly in the front half as crumbers, though there are the rare few through the midfield and even fewer down back.

As sub 180cm types you draft them on who they are when drafted as rarely do they have all that much scope to improve. Further to this they also need a meaningful point of difference.

Ben Ainsworth is a terrific example of a 179cm player who can make it this year because he has such an incredible vertical leap and such strong hands that it feels like he plays 10cm taller than his height.

Andrew McGrath also 179cm down back this year with his sheer running ability also has the game that can make the step up to AFL level.

Daicos and Brown haven't convinced me that they have that kind of ability/point of difference or even a clear best position/role where I can look at either of them with confidence at this stage. They've both got enough where they're possibles, but I can't look at either with such a level of confidence just yet that I can fully endorse the bid or an early to mid draft bid on either.

What a load of garbage this 180 cm crap talk is. Do BF supporters actually think that players under 180cm don't have a position in the game. Well if that is the case I hope Bucks never picks Elliot again or Clarkson picks Rioli. Where would the game be without Walters, Betts, Neale to name a couple. Absolutely crap talk, tossers!!!

Yeah but More Chance of Making it being Above 180 cm's

have they got talent, have they got football smarts, have they got room for improvement,
if yes to all three the club should go for it

My mate who is just starting out as a scout was quite effusive about our two boys.

I have not seen any footage so I make no comment.

He actually thought that despite the lowish stat numbers that Callum Brown was very good and just looked like a genuine midfielder who will step up. Kicked a clutch goal too.

He described Daicos as being silky as a bedsheet. Smooth mover and great skills. Describes him as very outside and looks more like a winger/flanker than a mid. He thought that he drifted in and out of the game quite a bit (but the ins were very good).

I know that's not much but he was pretty impressed and thinks they be on our list at the end of the year.
