What I don't understand is why almost every other round has 9 games squashed into 3 days, while over the bye rounds we spread 6 games out over 4 days. Why aren't Thursday night games played when there's more of a scheduling chalkenge and obviously more clashes.

Is there something exceedingly logical that I'm missing?

I think they are trying to make more marquee time slots and doing it during the bye, places more emphasis on individual teams.
