Whatever happens in the next few weeks, that could be our 2017 season right there. Those three, fit and firing for the whole season and we're a different team.
This. I won't believe it till it happens but if all 3 are on the park round 1 next year ripped and ready I'd have high hopes of a good start to the year.
As for Kersten I think he and McCarthy could form a very decent pairing up forward with Yarran and Walters thereabouts and Harley Bennell chipping in with the odd lazy 4 a game.

Judging by his Instagram he was in Italy five days ago so don't think.
May still start early though, our boys wouldn't be back til mid November right?

Or is Harley going to be classified as a first 3 year player or something, idno maybe the legends that report on the training on here can chime in with more details of how it works

So was thinking about it. Media assumes Mayne compo pick will be 23. And lots of us think that's too much for Brad Hill.

But what if Mayne compo pick is end of second round, say 37. That would be ok?

Both scenarios are Mayne compo pick for Brad Hill. Yet we'ld be divided. Maybe we're better off not knowing the result and just being happy with Mayne for Hill o_O

It's interesting with the Doig medal Saturday night. Will players be back for that or stuff it and just keep travelling if not expected to win it

Yeah can't say I know, the freo website just has draft and trading dates nothing on training. Gets even more confusing when you factor in the guys who played for Peel whose season finished later then the rest. Do they get an extra few weeks of break or did they sacrifice that for more game time.

It's too much for Hill but given he is coming to Freo I'd rather get the lower pick and just get that deal done ASAP - a higher one won't get it done. Still very little idea of how the McCarthy deal will work unless we provide next year's second round pick or we can convince GWS to take him for less than what I am guessing they want.

Anyone thinking we could do what we did last year and trade a future second for a current second? Or a future second for McCarthy + GWS future 3rd (given they don't seem to use them anyway)

GWS would rather our future 2nd round pick, than our current pick. I can see us trading our future 2nd round pick for McCarthy

Damien Barrett - what a campaigner haha. Sliding doors, comparing an out of contract Heeney to Fyfe, in terms of media frenziness. 1) ain't nobody compare to our fyfie 2) Sydney media wouldn't even know who he was :p 3) gives insight into how "journos" work - picked his target already, time to make up stories - I hear all the players hate Heeney and he's difficult to get along with

Apparently McVeigh had a big falling out with Heeney after growing jealous of his blond flowing locks.

I expect the key powerbrokers who aren't happy with the Sydney clubs academies to throw huge money at Heeney to try and lure him away so they can smugly claim the following year that the line that these Sydney players wouldn't play AFL if they couldn't stay in their home state turned out to be full of it.

Whether or not it is true doesn't matter, Eddie will take the chance to mention it.

Worst case scenario is you squeeze another 100k or 200k out of the swans, and you can target another player.

In other news, Bennell is fully over his calf issues and ready itching for pre-season.

My source (who pretty much works with him directly) reckons he is the nicest bloke to get along with but the hardest bloke to give advice too. Not in a bad way, he is just burning to get on the park and do right by his mates. Reckons he's been telling everyone at the club round 1 is his debut and nothing besides a natural disaster will stop him. Harley early last season gave himself a 1 pint rule when he went out, refused to drink beers at bbq's and followed his diet plan to the very letter even after he knew we was done for the season. Gold Coast continually wanted him back and didn't do their due dilligence with him, we've gone the long road and it's paid dividends.

Trust me, the season he had off will have fixed most of his calf issues and has just made him hungrier than Scott Cummings in a drive-thru!
