It might be worth noting that delisting Eli means he can get picked up by anyone as a DFA.
There could have potentially been a conversation about how we'd like to keep him but he'd still be pretty far back in the pecking order, or we can delist him and he can try his luck as a DFA where anyone can pick him up for free, and he wanted to go down the second path

I doubt Eli will go on to a senior list, but I'd be shocked if someone didn't rookie list him. I think it's more of a case of him being out of contract, and us wanting to bring a certain number of players into the club through the draft. Holmes being upgraded seems a poor move, but I guess we were thinking that we could shift either of he or Pierce in the trade period.
Good luck to all 4, I just hope Templeton doesn't turn out to a missed opportunity for us.

I don't get the rubbishing of Minch getting low possession numbers and people wanting to keep Eli. Minch is a better player in every aspect but endurance. And it wasn't an advantage to eli in the AFL
Eli has better skills, really don't think Minch is a better player than him to be honest. If Eli had of been afforded 13 games this year instead of 2 he would've shown more than Minch IMO. I guess Richo really does prioritise forward pressure, hope that doesn't mean we have Eddy and McQualter type role players in the 22 again when we're playing in big finals.

Wow so much love for Eli.
Bloke couldn't get a gig on a main list, was rookie listed.
Went ok, had a bad injury, was upgraded.
Couldnt take the next step, no outstanding traits, now delisted.
Why are we worried he's going to smash it somewhere else? It's not like he can't get a game behind the GWS midfield??

IMO I don't reckon he gets picked up by anyone. Another rookie list at best

Theres a reason why eli was taken in the rookie draft and nathan wright was taken early in the 2nd round....

Probably the same reason why eli didnt get traded
Yes if he is such a gun why did nobody else trade for him.

There is not one player on our list that Eli was ahead of.

Better than Wright?

Problem was he was not doing the same in the AFL

i can't believe wright played that many games in 2016 bloody hell.

how could seeing spud wright get a game not light a fire under lone, sincs or eli to improve from being a negative on the defensive side of their games

I think the love for Eli was due in part to our cupboard being very very bare for young talent early in 2014. Eli, JB & Dunstan all debuting early in that season & showing a bit got us all excited (after having Siposs & TC as our up & coming youth the previous season, with Wright & Spencer only a year into their careers).

He did a couple of really nice things & the broken arm came at a really bad time for him... it just goes to show that you need to take your chance & have a lot go your way. In the time that Eli was out, then getting back to form we recruited really well & now have a number of more talented and more athletic players in front of him.

I hope he does get another chance & becomes a really good player. Good luck to Eli & the other boys let go today... Once a Saint, always a Saint (except for that Judas prick Luke Ball)

templeton for mine plays a similar role to lachie weller. compare their development since drafted. i reckon if we had kept templeton the output and outcome would have been the same over the next 12 months

weller is the standard we are looking for in an outside player. i'm confident someone like mckenzie or a new draftee/trade will reach that level
