Was surprised Templeton got delisted . But given our glut of smallish forwards it's probably no surprise . Hopefully someone else gives him an opportunity l think he could still make it, he still has upside l think .
Something we will never know.
What would Eli be like if it hadn't been for the broken arm?
The potential of nearly three years of regular first team football lost to his development plus the mental let alone the physical damage, he could have been a regular and a great bargain from the rookie list.

Eli's broken arm was extremely unfortunate this ultimately led to this, as well as getting rid of the dreads he was a cult figure
it's like he knew he was doomed.

Tom lee. Like a bowling pin injury riddled, showed glimpses in 2014, accurate goal kicker just not in our plan.

Murdoch. IMO never looked comfortable, good penetrating kick and that's it.

Shenton. That's all I have.

You must be on the ancient side like me....McIntosh would have been an all time great of the Saints AND the AFL/VFL. IIRC was runner up in Brownlow. 6'4" amazing agility, only player I have ever seen could kick drop kicks with his other (left) foot. Unbelievable player whose career was cut short by a knee injury...comparison maybe less robust version of Koutifides or maybe even more skilful version of Nick Riewoldt...YES he was that good
Very good profile of McIntosh. Yes...he was that good.

I agree. I admire Wright's tenacity but really that's all he's got going for him. He'd be odds on for delisting next year IMO.

I agree that Wright and Michington have got it pushing it uphill next year. Except both of them have 2 year contracts at the end of this year.

I think Riewoldt and Dempster's retirement is more likely.

There don't seem to be a lot of candidates for delisting who are out of contract next year. These would be the most likely candidates for retirement/delisting next year

Riewoldt (possibly retired)
Dempster (probably retired)
Montagna (chance to retire)
Gilbert (possibly delisted)
Holmes (possibly delisted)

They're the only OOC players who could possibly go that I can think of. Possibly Rice if he really stagnates next year but unlikely. Freeman has another year to run so even if he doesn't play a game he should still be around. Pierce, Wright and Minchington are all contracted though it wouldn't shock me to see one or two of them traded/delisted. Surely Lonie and Sinclair wouldn't be in trouble after their excellent debut years.

I love sincs but he better start finding more of the ball or he'll end up like eli.

Include on this list one or two of the kids who find it hard to step up and are out the door.

Sincs will be fine. Worked a lot more on his defensive game this year, but you can't teach the class and goal kicking nous we saw in his debut season.

Sinclair and Lonie are upgrades on Eli. I didn't see anything Eli had as an AFL player. Wasnt quick, didn't find the ball. Sinclair knows how to get it as does Lonie. Of course they could be delisted at the end of next season but in the long term I reckon they have players like Minch and Wright covered and maybe even a couple of others.

What sort of a player are we trying to turn him into? Do we genuinely see him as a midfielder?

There is probably only one permanent small forward spot up for grabs (2KPPs, 2 medium, 1 resting mid, 1 small forward). To get a game in the forward line he will have to compete against:
Wright
Minch
Lonie

As a mid he needs to be in the top 6 or 7 of this group:
Ross
Dunstan
Billings
Acres
Steven
Armo
Stevens
Steele
Gresham
Newnes
Webster
Savage
Freeman

Confident Sincs will be a gun after his first season showing. Will work his way into midfield over next year or two. Quick thinker, awesome reflexes and picks the right option. Creates space for the next guy.
Our version of Robbie Gray.

If we see solid improvement out of Sincs and the rest of the kids we'll be in an awesome position for Ameet to leverage pick improvement opportunities come trade time in 2017 and beyond.
Keep getting in the best talent we can and we're on the long term success strategic path.

One other thing too, I know we are desperate for a pacey outside midfielder...

What happened to Shane Savage? When he came to us he was probably the type of player we are looking for now. We ended up turning him into a rebounding defender. I'd like to see the club try and switch him back to a wing at least to try it out.

Sinclair and Lonie both ooc end of next year, not many clear delistings
Gilbert, Holmes, Roo maybe but those jacks will need to play some senior games

Hope eli gets a run somewhere.
Not sure he will though.
Good vfl mid but you know not in our best midfield, prob not in any other afl teams best midfield.
Didnt seem to have the flexibility to play fwd/back.

Richo seems to want to be able to rotate all our midfielders through the forwardline and vice versa even Membrey is being pushed up ground.
Minchington is ahead of Lonie because of pressure acts around clearances no room for a pure small forward.

Did you see how important Johannson was for the WB. That's why he went back. Unfortunately he doesn't have his pace or grunt so we need to recruit a fast running HBF.

Yep the days of the stay at home small fwd are over, even betts runs off the back flank at center bounces.

He is still only a forward though. If you are as good as Betts you get away with it but nearly every small forward has to play on the ball. Lonie does in the VFL. It will come. He has to much skill and tenacity for it not to happen.

Thats my point, even the best small mid in the comp has to run through the midfield occasionally.
