Opposition POV.

B: Bews, Lonergan, Kolo
Hb: Touhy, Henderson, Thurlow
C: Blicavs, Guthrie, Menegola
Hf: Motlop, Hawkins, Duncan
F: McCarthy, Taylor, Menzel
R: Smith, J Selwood, Dangerfield
I: Stewart, S Selwood, Cockatoo, Stanley
That is as good a Cats team as I have read.

Stan, you talk of Hawkins as though you have been watching his highlights from a few years back.
Hawkins is turning 29 this season, he's no longer a young buck (in footy terms). The days when he could go into the ruck and run up and down the wing are over.
He is 6ft'6 tall and weighs 108kg. Not just that, he's big boned and will always need to monitor his weight when he retires.
If he were to begin roaming up and down the ground at this stage of his career, he would not be anywhere near as effective in one-on-one duels as he'd be stuffed most of the time.

Geelong keep searching for a quick fix (Stanley, Clark, Black) instead of allowing young players to develop. Unfortunately, Hawkins will have to try and do the bulk of the work for another year as Black, Henderson, Taylor or Stanley are makeshift experiments.
I haven't been watching any footy recently Bobby. I'm actually hanging for it to come back to be honest. How about you?

On Hawk, if he's not fit enough then he needs to get himself fitter. Simple. He's a pro athlete who is earning a lot of money. I'm not going to start making excuses for him. I'm sick of excuses.

I'm a fan of House by the way. Maybe he can give us something?

The Swans may have Buddy, Tippett and Reid up forward..3 talls ( this was mentioned on the AFL site )...

Adjustments will need to be made throughout the year....horses for courses....

Cowan is likely to play. He showed a lot at the end of last year, especially in the Sydney game when half the team went missing. I really like him.

Lang feels like a certainty, and will be a very good player.

George Hyphen will play too. Not sure about round one, but I think I finally saw where he might fit. He is actually very good at getting first hands on the ball and is very good at the outlet handball on both sides, which could be huge with Danger, Selwood, Guthrie, Duncan, Cockatoo, Motlop, etc around to make plays. Maybe our future Sammy Mitchell distributor?

I like this approach at this time of year... too many variables for a 22 yet... :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Changes for me to above..

Cocky is in his 3rd year. Its time to pump games into him. Does not mean he gets an automatic pass - but IMO if hes picked on a curve for 8 games then so be it. Get him up and running and build his confidence in his game. We need more spark and provided his fitness is up to it, get him going.

Stanley - He must get more consistent. Must. He's got more talent is his left toe than me, but he whiffs too many times for mine - and by whiff I mean simple mistakes. Dropped marks and dolly shots on goal missing. I know ive banged on plenty about our ruck situation and we need him there no doubt but his game must lift.

Black. Could be fools good at pick 950,000 or whatever he was, but he has skills and ability. Can he ply it here - I want to see him F structures early and often in the preseason - all 3 games actually. Give him the reps and confidence to go out and play and the decisions will come by Wk3.

GO Catters

Like a couple of you above I find it stupid hard to fit players in this time of year. I'm not even going to pretend I know anything about the new guys coming in with the exception of Thuoy, and I'm still forced to leave out guys I think should be playing.

Round 1 side:

FB: Bews Lonergan Taylor
HB: Thurlow Henderson Thuoy
C: Guthrie S.Selwood Duncan
HF: Cockatoo Menzel Lang
F: McCarthy Hawkins Motlop
R: Smith J.Selwood Dangerfield
B: Stanley Menegola Mackie Blicavs

Wanted to include and so will definitely play at some point at least (if not most) and maybe best 22.
Cowan, Ruggles, Horlin-Smith, Kolojashnij

I am really interested to see how the following guys go as from the sounds of it, they could potentially force their way into this team.
Black, Stewart, House, Parfitt

The notable absence is of course Gregson. I think he's a gun, and wish he were fit, I'd pick him before Lang in those circumstances. But he's not, so we must wait. He might get a few games before the year is out, but I look forward to seeing him hit his straps again in 2018. (Assuming Trump hasn't nuked us yet)

Was just thinking about GHS. and what others have been saying about him looking really good as extracting the pill to others. Could he end up being alittle like a Pseudo CHF in our team by freeing up some of our midfielders to play CHF like Selwood, or Dangerfield. Giving those guys a chop out, they can both take solid grabs and will definitely require the attention of a KPF. Someone like Menzel can fill the role when they're both in the middle.

Just musing let me know what you think.

Well at least it is an original thought.

I haven't been watching any footy recently Bobby. I'm actually hanging for it to come back to be honest. How about you?

Not looking forward to it much at all to be truthful.
It is going to be dominated by the young teams who have been predicted to go places for a couple of years already.
Almost like the NBA's version of the Warriors v Cavaliers and Geelong will only be making up the numbers all over again.

I have not seen House play at all so can't comment.
I saw Buzza play and have said it numerous times, an absolute dud so I wouldn't be surprised if House does more in his first year on the list.

Hawkins is fit enough, looks rather lean in the last 12 months. Suggestions otherwise are off the mark.

Don't know our best 22 yet will have to wait for NAB see how the kids go, but I know one thing for sure if Blicavs is in our 22 getting anywhere near finals time then we once again are going nowhere, said the same thing re: Bartel last season. We should have someone develop enough to able to get more than 17 possies a game in there by the later part of the season otherwise it'll be yet another knock on our development program.

Potential here for huge melts when Mackie boards the aeroplane to the West RD1.
I'm ok with Mackie boarding as long as he goes as an emergency. :p

What I won't be ok with is a backline featuring all of Taylor, Lonergan, Mackie, Kolodjashnij and Henderson.

The starting point is to remove a KPD.
They look like they're earmarking exactly that. To train Taylor forward then play him back would be bizarre to say the least.

I think that you might like House Bob. Very strong hands and has a bit of courage as well.
