Weller would want to be very very good or he will cop it relentlessly in a similar fashion to how the Titans fans just destroy Hayne every time he is a dud.
He doesn’t need to change
Neither does Iva Bigun while I’m at it
There’s nothing wrong with being a bit cynical or glass half empty if that’s who you are.

just wanted to support the young lad Weller and do my bit to try and help change or fortunes and culture from the ground up.
he's 21 and already the fan base have turned on him and lumped all this pressure on him - all because he wants to be here! just trying to turn the tide cuz I think we should all embrace and support him.

We stack up pretty well everywhere apart from inside mids with a little class. He's getting on but we just need him Barlow and others to nullify or at least break even until the kids get bigger and fitter.

Pretty good article I reckon basically saying Freo knew we had to get Weller and thus had the negotiating power.
Sen reported apparently to that there is some AFL funded marketing money as part of Weller's contract. Makes me think head office "encouraged " the deal to get done. Freo sensed this and cashed in

I spoke to a footy dept employee and maybe he was towing the company line but he was saying the club was happy to get Weller and that the drafting last year and next year means that there is enough 1st round talent in the club.

With pick 19 I would like to see a quick outside mid with a nice kick OR looking at some draft boards there are some good swingman around that mark.
You could make an argument that all our fwds are fwd/mid so a genuine small fwd like Liam Ryan with a pick in the 50s and Crossley.

How much do you think the AFL pushed for Weller to be at the Suns?
How long the piece of string but it smells like an intervention to me. Just like Geelong getting 19 for Motlop that assisted the Suns getting something decent for Ablett

Was in Suns Academy for around 3 years. Didn't meet the 5 year minimum zone residency requirement so had to go into the general draft.
Suns likely intended to draft him with their 2nd pick 15 in that year ( took 2MP with 1st pick 8) Fremantle jumped in and nabbed him at pick 13 .
So you prefer a team of 1st and second year players getting smashed around weekly. We have more than enough early picks in their first 2-3 years running around. We didn't need more we will get another 4 next year.
