In all seriousness, Stephenson has the potential to be one of the most damaging high ceiling players in this draft IMO.

He has elite line breaking speed, is 189cm tall and could play as a wiry 3rd tall forward with his impressive goal sense and marking ability, would slot in as a capable wingman easily and if he ever managed to fill out properly could become a capable midfielder.

So much potential with him it's note even funny, however i'm certainly not getting attached to the idea of drafting him. We'd have to be very fortunate.

Sounds like the perfect description of Andrejs Everitt!

So all this talk about Christmas, here is my Santa list and I thought would also give a second option. Tried to be realistic - example I have rated L Fogarty for some time and would love him at 21 but do not believe he will be available hence not picked at 21. I have also added in players that we have had multiple interviews with (smoke and fire) hence Stoddart.

13 Jaidyn Stephenson/Jack Higgins
21 Tim Kelly/Lochie O'Brien
26 James Worpel/Charlie Constable
32 Matthew Ling/Ryley Stoddart
37 Dylan Moore/Charlie Spargo
69 Ben Miller/Tom de Konning
83 Kyron Hayden/Hayden Schloithe
R1 Aaron Redhead/Lloyd Meek
R2 Liam Baker/Callum England

I am realistic enough to believe Rohan will deliver at least 1 WTF pick. Stay tuned and stay patient.

40 pages later and your all still talking about..

Hang on. We've switched from drooling over Clark to Stephenson? At least it's something new. Isn't he going to die of heart failure in his first AFL game?

What time is the draft? I literally cannot find it on the AFL website.

Do you not rate hamish brayshaw? Personally I can see freo grabbing him late and it'd piss me off enough to have another go at the dog

Really?
The more player profiles and phantom drafts I read the more I see why the eagles traded into this years draft. While pick 13 gives us a chance to grab a slider, i feel like the quality of players will be very close across all 5 of our picks.
The quality is very even up until pick 40, I agree.

There is also some quality in areas that we are well covered for - so my hope is that we don't overlook more pressing needs for a shiny new half back flanker who will sit at EP for 2 -3 years.

I have to say i wouldn't be unimpressed with getting stoddart so long as we get some contested beasts with our other picks. Uses his pace and kicking skills well. Reckon he could kill it on a wing. Other than the Knocks on his ability to contest my only concern would be his inability to use his right. I think he might be a little too predictable unless he can fix that issue

I will delete my account if we get Stephenson... Collingwood will grab him at 6 and if they dont the Saints will with their second pick in a row.
I think if Fogarty is still there the Pies will take him over Stephenson. Saints I think will roll the dice on Bonar which means they won’t want another risk pick in Stephenson so they’ll go the safer option in Clark with their other pick.

The worrying thing about reading this thread is a see a lot of ifs, possibles, maybe and potentiallys:

He is a forward, but he could potentially be an inside midfielder.

Hes a half back, but he could potentially be an inside midfielder.

He could be an inside midfield if he improves his inside game.

He is an outside midfielder who could play inside if he bulks up.

He could be an inside midfielder is he improves winning the contested ball.

He could be an inside midfielder if we can teach him to tackle more.

Etc, etc

This is why we would be utterly mad not to grab Charlie constable:

-he IS an inside midfielder
-he IS big enough
-he DOES win the contested ball
-he DOES tackle.

All the fundamentals are in place. Yes, he does need to improve his tank, but why dont we back in our fitness staff in to improve that? I would much rather roll the dice on getting a guy with solid fundamentals fitter, that trying to improve a fit guys fundamentals.

As per an earlier poster put up, he will be one of the best draftees of this years crop.

Me reading between the lines thinks the saints are one of the clubs who figure coffield and Clark are quality enough to outweigh any potential risks with Stephenson. There are a bunch of very even players at the top end so it's very understandable if he slides. Having said that I'm pretty much worried that any of the clubs with picks before us might take him (except Brisbane)
