The worrying thing about reading this thread is a see a lot of ifs, possibles, maybe and potentiallys:

He is a forward, but he could potentially be an inside midfielder.

Hes a half back, but he could potentially be an inside midfielder.

He could be an inside midfield if he improves his inside game.

He is an outside midfielder who could play inside if he bulks up.

He could be an inside midfielder is he improves winning the contested ball.

He could be an inside midfielder if we can teach him to tackle more.


Etc, etc

This is why we would be utterly mad not to grab Charlie constable:

-he IS an inside midfielder
-he IS big enough
-he DOES win the contested ball
-he DOES tackle.

All the fundamentals are in place. Yes, he does need to improve his tank, but why dont we back in our fitness staff in to improve that? I would much rather roll the dice on getting a guy with solid fundamentals fitter, that trying to improve a fit guys fundamentals.


As per an earlier poster put up, he will be one of the best draftees of this years crop.

Yes, Charlie Constable. He could be a good footy player IF he builds his tank and is able to compensate for his lack of speed.

That's how this draft thing works. There's no such thing as a sure thing - you select kids based on what their future potential could be if things work out. I want Constable with one of our 2nd rounders, but it's flawed to think he's more of a certainty than many of the other prospects being discussed.

Yeah i will be very disappointed if we got O'Brien and to me it tells me we know Gaff is leaving next year and he will be the replacement. I just have this feeling the club sat down with Gaff and asked him his intentions and if he thought he would be going home next year. From there we figured lets trade this years first rounder for a couple of second rounders and then next year when Gaff goes through FA we get a first rounder anyway...

Me reading between the lines thinks the saints are one of the clubs who figure coffield and Clark are quality enough to outweigh any potential risks with Stephenson. There are a bunch of very even players at the top end so it's very understandable if he slides. Having said that I'm pretty much worried that any of the clubs with picks before us might take him (except Brisbane)

Im worried that say GWS or Adelaide or whoever was set to pick Bonar instead picks Stephenson.

Take the risk on the heart condition instead of the knee!

Id love Stephenson but I think we will end up with a Higgins or a OBrien.

Why replace him though? Sure he won an AA but do you really need a Gaff in your side?

How many games has he stood up and won for us (without looking at uncontested possession and GPS stats)? Compare that to other premiership wingmen we've had over the years.

What makes us think a clone is going to be any different, even if it does cost us 'nothing' after compo.

I have to say i wouldn't be unimpressed with getting stoddart so long as we get some contested beasts with our other picks. Uses his pace and kicking skills well. Reckon he could kill it on a wing. Other than the Knocks on his ability to contest my only concern would be his inability to use his right. I think he might be a little too predictable unless he can fix that issue

Stoddart is allergic to tackling but has some nice skills but i would prioritize kelly and worpol first

I like O'Brien. At least with his kicking and fitness he has 2 good attributes. You can't really say that about Allen or Higgins.

Stephenson is still my first choice though.

It's more likely an irregularity which is constant or causes an audible change in heart rhythm a few times a day, otherwise they wouldn't have picked it up.

For instance, I have trivial mitral valve regurgitation, which means one of my heart valves leaks a small amount of blood back into the chamber each beat. I also get occasional skipped beats and occasional palpitations (rapid irregular beating for a few seconds).

Would of liked Ryan or Miers @ 37 but think Stoddard will be a star off half back and allow Yeo to move midfield plus Hurn aint getting younger.
