Petrucelle sounds like an Ash Smith clone - could be boom or bust, .
People are saying Petruccele is an Ash Smith clone? WTF? Every thing I have read (yeah, only read) has been he fights for his own ball, good at contested possies, will harrass and tackle (very un-WCE like)
Smith (a family member told me) didn't like to tackle!

Go figure, it was also apparent for all to see that Smith didn't like to get too involved.

I honestly think Starcevich Brisbane and Kelly Geelong gone shocked the Eagles recruiters hence the extra time (only West Coast used that extra time) . So Anus , Petricelle and Brayshaw are left field. 2 solid midfielders. Cant complain in retrospect. Brander the first big man picked in the draft. Could be a steal. Oscar is Fyfe like in his love of the game and is better at the same age. There is hope and it isnt incredulous at this stage so in retrospect I will give this a good mark.

- like the Petruccelle pick - the guy has only just begun to devote himself to footy. His kicking looks shaky but he’s got elite speed, a great leap, good mark, hungry to tackle. He’ll terrorise defenders if we play him as a pressure forward.
Petruccelle only sort of new to footy? Didn't read that or is that he is only really starting to get into it seriously after playing for a while?

a) picked the guy that last year people were calling a potential #1 (note: this always happens before everyone jizzes over mids)

I'm pretty sure that the year before being drafted Venables was considered a possibility for the #1 pick. Then he got injured in his draft year and it all went to shit for him. Not too dissimilar to Brander.

It's a relief to have 2 genuine small forward crumbers, the amount of times we didn't punish teams when they ball went to ground last season was crazy.. Our forward line will be way more damaging when Kennedy doesn't have to do it which has for the past 2 years.

Haha yes let’s make Anus the new Shred.

Assuming we don't just keep playing Lecras, Cripps and a token young midfielder there instead

So you're telling me we

a) picked the guy that last year people were calling a potential #1 (note: this always happens before everyone jizzes over mids)
b) picked the best player in the u/18 carnival
c) picked the top goalscorer in the WAFL
d) picked the fastest player in the draft
e) picked the brother of two guns who's only helped back due to injuries

and to that we're adding

f) our first pick from last year who was projected at the pointy end if not for a foot injury
g) a big bodied mid we'd all been asking for

Yeah, i guess i can see why you're all melting
You can take your common sense and **** right off outa here! :D

i wouldnt. we are melting on our board over him

ainsworth is very strong in the arms and legs. he's what steele is for us. there were some key moments this year in the reserves final vs claremont at freo oval, against men, where i went WOW. this kid can match it now!!!! he stands up in tackles. he reads the play. he can extract the ball. he can go forward, lead up, mark, goal.

he wont be your high skilled outside players but he will be a very very good inside mid. he will fight and win the inside ball for you and extract it to blokes who can use it well. he's a vital player in any teams midfield

Why are you melting over Hunter Clark? That's nonsense.

Reading over this thread and holy shit you mob are a pack of nuffys.

Massive sooking and then such elation over a bloke who got picked at 68.

Not going to justify picks because, for the most part, I don't know if they are worthwhile. Highlights packages are a load of shit, and the AFL environment makes or breaks even the best.

I am happy we picked Liam Ryan though, a 21 year old dominating the WAFL from outside the system. The bloke has kicked 113 goals in 39 games and can crumb, lead, and mark. He'll be a good player if we can get him physically and mentally ready.

I meant that in regards to that he sounds like he is more of an athlete than a footballer. With that said, he has elite pace and is a good mark. Exciting prospect if everything falls into place.

Petrucelle looks like a very exciting prospect with his speed alone, but a big query seems to be whether he can enough of the ball. Could be a frustrating player if he struggles to be productive even at WAFL level.
Karps for example is a player with some x-factor who simply isn't productive enough to make it as a mid, so it seems like his only option now is to develop into a small forward. Not even sure where Petrucelle will even play at senior level. Hope that they will try him in different positions to find out where he can use his speed the best with his still developing footy skills.

Big year for Karps. It sounds like his running is rivalling Masten's this year, so it looks like he's finally got a clean run at it and built an AFL body.
