Are there any posters on here who can give us a non Fan Boy perspective on the young players we have on the list who have been playing primarily in the WAFL and not made many or any senior appearances for us?

Strengths and weaknesses? Likelihood of being able to cut the mustard at AFL level eventually? Likelihood of being able to play regularly next year?

There was a comment from Chris Pelchen the other day on Foxsports that he doesn't rate our under 23's. I don't watch any WAFL so i have no opinion on it at all. Are there posters on here who see a lot of East Perth who do have an informed and non - emotionally influenced opinion to offer on the matter?

His defensive game is non existent. Pass hopefully.
That can be taught, improved. What can't be taught however, is his explosive ability. And he kicks goals. Oh and WA boy.

Is there a better low risk high reward option for a late pick? I'd rather take a shot on a guy who has proven WAFL success.

Meanwhile we have AFL listed spuds playing reserves and league guys getting torched by Liam.

13: Constable - I'm very much hoping Constable slides through to WC's first selection. I don't believe he will still be on the board at WC's pick, but he shouldn't overlooked if available. Brings size, strength and presence over the ball, among other qualities. He's not an athlete, but he's a guy you can build a midfield around. He has utility, too.

I wouldn't be distraught with taking Clark here, but I see him more as Hurn's long term replacement. Clark will be a quality player with a long career, but just not as the inside mid WC are crying out for.

21: Taylor - KPP's require 4 years of development. Schofield is rightfully on the outer. As a KPP he scrags and gives away free kicks when one out due to a lack of strength. As a third tall, he's a good spoiler and interceptor, but doesn't accumulate enough of the ball to have much of an offensive impact on the game. He has an attacking streak, but can't get his hands on the ball in order to utilize it. Schofield is nothing but depth and doesn't provide enough quality at his age to be worth persisting with for much longer. 2018 should be his last at WC. Hence the need to draft Sam Taylor as a tall replacement. EMac isn't getting any younger either. Taylor's development will coincide nicely with EMac's eventual retirement. Taylor will develop into a quality tall and is worthy of a pick at this point in the draft, so his selection here isn't merely jumping the gun for the sake of succession planning. If WC don't take Sam Taylor at pick 21, yet want to use 26 on Kelly to beat Carlton to the punch, I don't believe Taylor lasts till pick 32. Hence, if WC want him, he should be taken here.

26: Kelly - WC should take him here, not because he's the inside mid WC desperately need, but because he brings a point of difference to WC's midfield - pace, agility/swervability, run and carry, attacking flair and a penchant for hitting the scoreboard. At AFL level, I see Kelly as a wingman, not an out-an-out inside mid. Kelly steps right into WC's best 18 and plays on the opposite wing to Gaff, whilst forming part of the B-group rotation in the guts. Kelly, as a wingman, is the anti-Gaff/Masten, which is a good thing, as he provides a pacier, more attacking and dynamic option than either of them. Also has more utility than either of them.
