Seems to be a quite a few "21-Kelly" posts here and on other threads... Hindsight only? I had impression pre draft that most who wanted him expected Kelly to be available at 37, but might have to use pick 32 because Geelong had shown an interest.

I think most thought he would be available at 26. Not many would've taken him at 21.

I thought Carlton would go earliest at 30 which is why i wanted him at 26. The fact he went beforehand i have no issues with the club not getting him. It's my understanding we were heavily into fritsch as well from the VFL but again melbourne took him before our pick 32.

Most of us had him at pick 26. But that would have been too late as well. And we thought Geelong might grab him in the 20's. So some of us started talking pick 21 for Kelly.

The trade draft haul so far .

3 INSIDE MIDS -
Ahchee - Big bodied mid who can play forward . Was runner up in the sanfl Bnf and has x factor . He can step straight in as an inside bull to replace priddis

Ainsworth- great clearance player who will need some development . At 183cm he is not a small mid .

Brayshaw - 187cm 91kg inside beast . Think he could be a late gem . Will get games next year if injury free

2 MEDIUM FORWARDS -

Ryan has x factor galore and will hopefully be best 22 round 1

Petracelle- lightning fast forward with great leap, strong hands and desire to chase and tackle . Sees himself as a forward but i hope he can transition to a winger also .

2 TALL FORWARDS

Brander - best genuine key forward in the draft and a wise investment. Eagles have their eyes towards the future with brander able to train with kennedy for the next few years.

Allen - He said hemself that he thinks he has more to grow . Plays as a roaming CHF with a big tank and a great set of hands . Way to good to pass up at 21 .

Pretty much what we needed 3 mids 2 smaller x factor forwards and the 2 best KPF in the draft . Plus not 1 HBF

We have done what freo refuse to do and draft genuine KPFs that are elite talents and not just drafting tall goobers late in the draft and wonder why they are shit

Is Taryce Stewart a chance via the rookie draft. Clever small forward, good skills - definitely something to work with in my opinion.

How can you be so negative about Petrucelle. The kid has so much upside. He is clearly a natural sportsman.

Comparisons with Ash Smith are ridiculous.

Personally, he is the one I am most excited about.
I don't like the Petrucelle pick because it wasn't appropriate. If we nailed our picks in the leadup to pick 37 and he was still available, sure take the risk.

But few expected us to come out and take forwards with our first 3 selections, and that left us desperate for some proper midfielders.

Ainsworth went higher than most tipped, taking him ahead of Constable left us pick 37 to mercifully take a strong campaigning midfielder like Worpel.. instead we got cute with the pick and decided to back in our atrocious development coaches with one of the riskiest picks of the draft.

Mr i just started playing footy 12 months ago. Doesn't have a set position and WCE have no idea (from rawlings on mouth) where they are going to play him.

Doesn't fill me with confidence. As far as Ash Smith comparisons go, they are purely suggesting that he's an athlete without a football brain, which is true.

KPPs are becoming irrelevant since 2 last premierships didnt have them

Never mind Boyd was BOG in the GF and they have since chased Cloke, Schache and took Naughton last night.

While Richmond picked Noah Balta and Callum Coleman-Jones last night.

So I think they see the value in KPPs.

People used to get excited about Smith too purely because he was athletic. Doesn't mean he will be a superstar.
Eastern ranges loved him.wouldnt hear any criticism
As long as petracelle isnt as lazy as smith he should go ok.30 seconds of highlighs saw him take the game on more than smith did in his years at west coast

I think the Brander and Allen picks work individually but picking them both is ridiculous

They're very different players though. Brander is a full size KPF while Oscar Allen is a high roaming half forward like Lamb only with less athletic prowess and more football intelligence. Apples and Oranges IMO.

I liked his attributes and wanted him to exceed as a damaging half back. He never tightened up defensively and that's what ended his career. Same goes for players like Tunbridge, you want the players with abilities others don't have to make the grade.
