I don't understand the heat being put on Long after only one year, if we trade him to the dogs they'll probably turn him into another Johannisen-type who took what 4 or 5 years to really hit his straps?

Long is an elite kick, fast, loves tackling and can kick goals… he could be a serious upgrade on Mav if we persist and develop him properly.

Don't you know, on this board, if you don't sprint out the blocks in year one you're a bust.

If you do that for any trade then some sides will win and lose. I suppose it depends if you are happy plodding along and never taking a punt. What if we thought that way before the Carlisle deal. Most likely don't get Gresham either.

Agree with u on this one Plugger. We have to take a risk at some point.

If we want Stringer we will have to cough up a first rounder, plain and simple. We won't be getting him for a bag of crisps as some are suggesting.

Ironically, the likelihood of Stringer being a better option than the kid we draft is far more certain IMO.

Might be wrong, but isn't he a year older than his draft class and he was coming off a year where he played in the VFL?

His VFL performances this year are pretty disappointing with that considered.

Fogarty still has a crook knee

Higgins too small ...prefer Lewis Taylor from Brisbane Lions if we are going that way.
Already done the development.

If we kept picks which I doubt , because war room is bloody quiet real quiet gut feeling is we are up to
something my contact is saying nothing just smiles every time I ask him .
war room too quiet? maybe no-one in there?

Hit the nail on the head. Overager with plenty of VFL experience. Looked ordinary at all levels. Hope he improves but luckily the investment was low in a shalllow draft.

Best thing that could happen for us is we take Rockliff as a FA .
Trade with Brisbane for their Comp pick 2 and pick 12 , 28 for our picks 7&8 + Armo and Lonie .
Offer pick 12 for Stringer .
Hit the draft knowing pick 2 gets you a star in LDU or Rayner.
And we have a clearance pig in Rocky .

I don't think that is case at all, I do think that on this board if you have an opinion that might be slightly negative towards anything.
The carry on by the positive police is way over the top

If Long was a bad pick @26 then Battle was a great pick @ 39.

Swap them in pick order and I doubt we hear complaints.

But please nobody dare mention picks like Battle @ 39 or White @ 40 or Gres @ 18.

I mean we are St.Kilda we do the hopeless not anything else.

Over on another board, anyone who expresses lack of confidence in Long is called all sorts of names, with an implied "racist" undertone.
I agree with you, in that Long seems undersized (yes, I know he's young) but his body type will never lend itself to gaining much extra muscle.
I think the club was seduced with the genetic link with Michael Long.
Long is not someone I see as a senior player at all.
Agree with you on Battle, he could be a type of Tom Lynch or similar, he has definitely got a lot of upside
thats just silly... Longs race has nothing to do with it, its more that his name came well out of left field in his draft testing the only thing he really did well in was the kicking test the rest he was mid pack.. back in the old day we used to call them the Bevo smokies wher John Beverage would pluck out a Jimmy Gwilt out of nowhere but to use our first pick on a smokie thats crazy

Not necessarily true, but I have always said that we need a little more patience as some players do take longer than others... and I give you prime examples of Ross, Billings and in the past BJ and Joey. Obviously not every kid is going to be a player but throwing the baby out with the bath water after Long has had 3 senior games is a little hasty.

i hope you are right ... i really want him to prove me wrong but i was shocked by his drafting and in what we have seen so far im not impressed early on...

I think JohnOneMillion (can't recall his nic) keeps saying the Josh Kelly isn't over yet, and he will still come to the Saints. The "signed with Giants" is smoke and mirrors and maybe a way to avoid distraction during finals.
I reckon after the re-signing is finally announced, Mr John will become invisible like a ghost, will no longer post on here as John, and will just come back with a new nic. Just my thoughts.
I agree John25252738394046565.......ah Rocky

its not that at all... im more than happy to give him time but on first look nothing really gets me excited about him being a player ... i hope im well wrong and in two years time people are digging up this post to rub it in my face that i know SFA.. but right now i would have rather kept Eli than draft Long

Several posters have mentioned that we dont need forwards. Well I for one am not happy with our goal kicking, and feel most of our goal kickers can be improved on. Our best kicks for goal this year were Acres and Battle (one shot, one goal). And just as well for some of our players they dont record shots out on the full in the stats, otherwise Josh Bruce for one, would look much worse.
