I know everyone's being linked to Carlton and it's becoming a bit of a running gag, but if Sloane was to ask to be traded, Carlton would have to be in with a pretty serious shot, given that they have someone in Gibbs that Adelaide would be extremely keen on in a trade, they have ample cap space for Rory- especially now that they've missed on Rockliff- and they need an inside type like him even more than we do. Possibly a lot more than we do.

It could easily be something that works out pretty well for all parties.

No chance, I can say for a fact that if he ever leaves he'll play for the saints.

Not convinced Hickey would necessarily want to leave and given he is under contract would not surprise if he says no to a trade.

Therefore what would we need to offer? Future Second is about all we have.
Not worth a Pick 7 or 8, even if they give a 2nd back with him IMO.

Not sure we have any bargaining power with players either TBH. Maybe Webster but personally rate him and would prefer to keep him.

Hickey won't want to go to another club if he's going to be a back up ruck, you think he'd just back himself to bounce back here.

The only way I see him going is if he thinks he can be the first ruck at another club. Brisbane is the only club I can think of off the top of my head he might be first ruck, but I think they are looking at others.

2. Trade 8 for 15 & 17, trade 17 to GWS for Smith - we might even get a later pick back with that

We need a healthy dose of ego... I can't think of any other Saints player at present that would really get in an oppositions face (except for Lonie!)

This is what I don't get about much of the analysis on here.

All year people posted about not being able to play Steele, Dunstan and Stevens in the same midfield. So let's get Sloane!

I'd love to have Sloane, but it would only really make sense if it was straight up for Dunstan. Even then we'd be getting a 28 year old champion who won't improve and will be finished in four years against the upward trajectory that is Dunstan. I just don't see the upside of going and paying for Sloane. Next year when he's a FA and we can delist 6-8 out of contract players, different story.

Gaff would fill a position of need - something we don't have. Devon Smith the same if he can consistently crumb goals.

Reality is many top players have ego's. Comes with the territory.
Alternative is to draft and trade in nice guy's

I haven't paid a lot of attention to Smith and only recently looked his 2017 stats. I hadn't heard him linked with us, so didn't read too much into it. So us being linked to him popped out of nowhere, which shows Ameet and co. have been quiet but are scheming things.

I have no doubt if he nominates us he'll mention the prospect of more midfield time; even though half of Twitter seem to think he is only a small forward haha.

Rate his stats on a number of things. He averaged 18.5 disposals, 4.9 tackles and 1 goal a game. But only kicked goals in 50% of his games, with highs of 3. Racked up to 9-11 tackles in some games and found the ball up to 26 times.

I can see him being a solid 23 disposal, 5-6 tackle a game player who can kick 20-25 goals for us. Yes, a bit arrogant sounding but I don't mind having a few blokes with a bit of campaigner about them. Just gotta use it the right way.
