Recruiting Stringer will come down to 3 things
  • What impression he leaves after the interview
  • What draft selection/s it will cost
  • What salary will he want

If we want him we will get him.

A 100% Stringer gets us a flag if we miss out this year.
I will go as far to say if I had a choice out of Schace and Stringer than its Stringer by the length of the Flemington Straight.

You need talent to win flags otherwise we could all be playing at the mcg rather than behind a keyboard

Stringer & Schache have talent in spades and play positions that we are in desperate need in.

Jake Stringer at his best is Dynamite and he can change a game on his own - This sort of talent should not be overlooked lightly

Rumour going round Charlie Dixon has walked out on Port. We should be MASSIVELY into him if true.

is a massive ****wit and why would we recruit a campaigner that walks out after a finals loss Dixon can suck my balls if we recruit him I'm permanently #eco and on the #sackdimmer bandwagon ****ing hate the w***er

he would ask for over a mill a year as well the campaigner

  • What impression he leaves after the interview - Depends who does the interview (Balme,Hardwick,Hartley,Richardson) We will be fine
  • What draft selection/s it will cost - #10-#15 will get the deal done provided Stringer selects the Tigers
  • What salary will he want - $600k x 4 years

The thing that makes me a lot more settled come trade and free agency time is that I'm more confident than ever with Balmey overlooking the football program. Experienced head like him has seen it all before. He will know if it's worth taking the risk on the likes of Stringer or Schache.

Never felt so confident in the club as I do right now.

Less note more message, he had good info re Martin, Tiger71 mentioned Scache again on the podcast the other day so it looks like this Schache to Richmond thing might have legs.
Not a chance, he's not leaving. Massive beat up story that has no legs

Well plenty of others disagree, including one of our own who usually has solid information, including reports from the media saying that a few clubs still think he's getting and the fact that he's apparently packed up all of his belongings up in Brisbane, I think he's a massive chance to go.

Any chance of us going after Josh Kelly?
He would make our midfield unstoppable

Don't see a reason to re-sign any of the delistings. Miles/Lennon may not stay if only getting 1 year deals. Seems pretty straight forward
We will use minimal picks in this draft. If we trade pick(s) for player(s) it will be our first rounder(s). We want to use the later picks to pay for Naish. We will upgrade rookies with junk picks if we have to. We need depth for next year and we need blokes to delist next year to make space for the 5-6 draftees we will bring in from a stronger pool.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought rookie picks no longer feature in the draft and therefore any picks used for Naish would have to be live picks, and if points don't match we will go into deficit for next year?

I thought this was the case too, but can't find anything that actually says it. Only proof I can see is if you look up the 2016 Draft, there are no rookie upgrades listed at all.

Edit: also found this on the afl website, post round 23 document:
Tuesday 31 October 2pm - List Lodgement (1) ; Rookie Promotion to Primary List
... which also suggests that rookies are upgraded before the Draft.

I remember reading somewhere that if we use 3+ rubbish picks on Naish then we will likely have to take at least 1 kid at the very last pick of the draft.

I'm sure he will buy into our culture. If he wants to play, he will have to.

The dogs have that culture and were playing like it before we were too. He's just a dickhead.

Stringer has the capacity to be a really high quality player and we can always use more high quality players, that said I can't see he should be a priority for us unless he could play broadly 50/50 mid fwd.

Touch wood, we have been lucky this year that the Nank tank hasn't gone down with injury but ideally we would be playing another taller forward who could chop out in the ruck.

Using what must be a limited amount of cap space on a player would be expensive but not necessarily fit our highest priority needs, particularly if he his character has any potential to disrupt, is not the approach i would be taking.

I think the biggest positive of potentially bringing stringer is how versatile we would become.

Martin/stringer/caddy/cotchin/edwards all guys who can play midfield or forward.

These days versatility is king.

I would absolutely chase him. Our time is now, cant have enough talent on the team.

Sounds like bombers and cats are in the lead though.

I don't think they're necessarily in the lead. We just don't shout about who we're targeting, especially with Balmy onboard

If we lose the 6 I mentioned as delistings/retirements and elevate Castagna and Soldo that would leave us with 4 vacancies on the list, which is our 2 x first round and 3 x third round.

The only sticking point is if Lennon/Miles are only offered 1 year deals as I don't see them staying for that if other clubs are offering more security. We may look at using them to try and secure other needs maybe Miles and Lennon to Brisbane for Schache and a later pick.

As for next year I already have 3-4 picks in the bank with Griffiths Hampson Conca and Lloyd early candidates if Lennon and Miles sign on for only a year that could easily become 6 picks without trying.

Wonder how much longer we carry Drumond for. Whens he expected back? Hopefully he gets a full pre season so he can have 12 more months to show what he can do.

Putting aside the Yarran saga...

I have full faith in the club to get the right people in the door (mostly due to Balme keeping everyone on their toes and in line)

If we can afford to get player x and they think it will benefit us more than a draft pick then I fully support it.

Balme is a super smart operator. He wouldn't rubber stamp bringing in someone that would cause the group to splinter.

Saying that I'd be very surprised if Stringer is in yellow and black next year.

RFC should fly in/invite all potential trade targets to the G for the prelim and say "imagine playing in front of this"... Where do I sign?
