You guys are likely going to have pick 4 or 5 which means Walsh is out of contention

1. Carlton
2. Gold Coast
3. Gold Coast (Tom Lynch compensation)
4. St Kilda
5. Brisbane

If you keep playing like you are then you may even overtake the Bulldogs as you have a great percentage for a team that is in 16th.

A win next week and we overtake St Kilda and the Dogs. Another win and we overtake Freo. I think we'll either finish 13th or 14th leaving us with pick 6 or 7 after GC get a priority pick.

Ah well I still think we'll end up with a gun prospect even if we end up with pick 4-6. I could see the Saints and Bulldogs strongly considering one of the King twins so there is a good chance Rankine or Smith could still be available for us.

tbh wherever we finish no player is out of our reach, particularly if they introduce live trading this year as is speculated. Just depends what we're willing to invest.

Pick 5 - Brisbane Lions select - Izak Rankine

Camera pans to Rankine with a huge, genuine smile on his face

If our wins continue, our pick will keep moving out and Rayner gets his wish with Curtis Taylor.

Was all for getting honourable losses and getting pick 2-3 in draft but at end of the day it’s a collective efffort and wins like these will do far more then getting a pick 2 in the draft . We will still get 2 or 2 high caliber talents at the end of the day . We are also performing like this without Harris Andrews and Charlie Cameron who have both been exceptional this year also have high hopes for Zac Bailey and starcevich .

What are people’s thoughts on Cedric cox ? I think he oozes talent but atm looks a little lost . Actually think he is the type of player who might thrive on a half forward
Flank where he can just play his own game.

Jye Caldwell hasn't been spoken about much on here, and I think he will turn some more heads in the second half of the year if he recovers from his injury. i reckon he was ready to rip up the champs before his hamstring. Great mix of tough on the inside and class on the outside.

I think he’s the type of player we’d love. We have a history of taking players that were highly rated but slipped somewhat due to lack of exposure through injury in their draft year. Not that he’s missed all of this year, but a strong Champs showing would have seen him a top 10 lock.

Need Sam Walsh. If only Lady Luck has him dropping down to our pick 5-7. I’ll be rank if GC gets an early first round PP when we got a shitty end of first round. They were gifted crap loads of 1st rounders and pissed it all away. Not unlike us but they were given it all for free while we battled for what seems like an enternity in rebuilds.

They wont get a PP, but they will get band 1 compo if (probably when) lynch leaves.

Now if Carltank gets an early PP ... then we will all burn down the BF forums

The quality of midfielders in the draft seems to drop of after Walsh, Smith and Rankine. If our pick is too late to get them I wonder if we'll trade back and maybe also try to improve our second.

I personally do rate Cedric and don't forget he has been in the system for not even two years. It would be great to see him have a bank of games back to back to assist in his development as some of our younger players have had but really can't see it happening, maybe next year with a big pre-season. But I would leave him coming off the HBF or even a chance to run on the wing.

Didn't get much chance to see Caldwell so won't make comment but I've said for awhile that there are going to be some very handy players/mids at our second pick and trust to back in the recruiters on this one but to get another 2/3 young players to add to the mix will go along way.

Who knows what would happen honestly and hope that one of Smith and Rankine are still around our first pick. But if they're all gone then not bothered to move back to pick up two players in the late first round but if we were to use our second to do it I would hope to see something come back our way. Not that I can see it happening but would love to see us trade next year's first rounder for another in the teens or better for this year. Got to maximise this draft.

If we end up with 6 and 24 which ends up being 7 and 26 after free agency with that 26 probably being pushed backed to 29 or later with academy bidding and possibly being after a McFadyen pick we might need to do something.

If we end up missing out on an opportunity at one of the big 4 ie. Lukosius, Rankine, Walsh and Smith there will still be plenty of good prospect mids to choose from in that next bracket eg. Riley Collier-Dawkins, Jackson Hately, Curtis Taylor, Jye Caldwell, Connor Rozze, Chayce Jones. With a bit of luck one of them might fall to our 2nd as well or Thomas Berry.

Even with pick 5 or 6 we could still get one of the big 4, 1 or both of the King twins could go early.

The wins are great and I can see us nabbing a few more and ending up in that 5-7 pick range as you say. Which has us somewhat awkwardly placed draft-wise. We'd want to be in the top 4 to be in pole position for Smith/Walsh/Lukosius/Rankine...and if we aren't, I hope the club looks to either package up some deals (either with later picks or future picks) to get us into that top 4.

Or, alternatively, trade down to get multiple picks in the 8 - 18 range; to have two bites of the cherry at that second tier of players (i.e. Caldwell, Hately) and to be positioned to safely protect against any early bids for McFadyen.

With the AFL thinking of possibly bringing in Zones the big (athletic types) will come in handy again.
Even Carlton may choose to go one of the Kings to stop any Go Home from Lukosius.
But Walsh seems a good fit for them too.

That’s the thing, I don’t see Walsh as a good fit. They need a Smith type more.
