Kind of defeats the purpose. It was supposed to give them mature agers to help strengthen young lists

Agree. It is just more picks for the cycle.

They should be given priority draft access to them. Nominate 2 state league mature age players each who they can have outside the normal list limitation number for 2 years or something similar.

Or just been offered a player that they may have wanted. You know. A mature age player is available to you, pre-draft, if you want one

The clubs need to be left to burn their own bridges.
If they want to go around the back of the system, perhaps even with the AFL's blessing as it is a means of giving them more picks for nothing without the AFL being seen to give them something, then we should let them.

It only serves to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Yeah true. They are more likely to get a 2nd rounder this way. I think GC will keep theirs, not Carlton though

It would have been a disgrace had Carlton and GC received priority picks. Carlton traded their best mid last year and to reward that with a pick would have set a bad precedent.

But Hogan would have to agree to the deal, and with Freo star Lachie Neale apparently exploring an exit, are the Dockers an attractive enough proposition?

"We've got a couple of weeks to get our heads around what we want to do," said Neale about his potential move to the Brisbane Lions.

"We've got to consider eveything, it's a pretty big move across the other side of the country if that's what we decide.

"I've got nothing bad to say about Fremantle... it's a tough decision and we'll work through it."

Essendon legend Tim Watson has queried the idea that Jesse Hogan would want to leave the Demons and move to the Dockers.

"If you put together what we've just played (Lachie Neale's comments), and you play that to Jesse Hogan - if I'm Jesse Hogan, I'm thinking 'you're about to tell me, I'm going to go to your team and your second best midfielder is about to walk out... what sort of a group am I actually walking into?'"
