Not really trying to go a like for like match up, just saying in terms of a tall to small set up

Fair enough. Clearly we’re much taller.
Bennell on the half forward line would be perfect but thats a dream.

Front 6 could look like

Walters Hogan Taberner
Bennell Lobb Switkowski

Cox to backline.
McCarthy needs to fight but probably gets a spot over Bennell or Switkowski. Then we’d be way too too heavy in front half.

Ian Hill nipping around would be great pick up if we can exchange picks perfectly.

The top 11 could look like

Carlton - Walsh
Gold Coast - Lukosious
Gold Coast - Rozee
Saints - Max King
Port - Rankine
Gold Coast - Ben King
Port - Hately
Adelaide - Bailey Smith
GWS - Bailey Williams
Melbourne - Liam Stocker
Fremantle - Ian Hill

I would (and more importantly I think the club would) take Jordan Clark in that scenario. Taylor isn't wrong when she says not all inside 50s are equal, and Clark (along with Cerra) would be the player to give quality inside 50s time and again. Also a much better size and just as evasive.

We paid two first round picks for him, he is a generational player that is only going to go better and he is at a team that is on the right side of the premiership clock/ window. We score (remember what it is like to kick more than a 100pts in a game?) freely with him in the side, it will be a loss for him to leave and I for one think we have only seen 60% of his potential. A 1st round pick is not going to cut it, one low and one late 1st round might, but with the number of players we have delisted, you might be asking someone to pack their bags. I'd take the little Brayshaw but I guess he is Ross's pet.

Also think about this, except for a sandgroper, you are hardly a destination club, who really wants to play Lyon style, we can hold you over a barrel re Jessie because he is one of the few mega talents that would consider playing at such a happy club. You are basically a WA version of North.

If you were to argue that we (Melb) owe you for taking that spud (Sylvia) I'd agree, but then I'd remind you about Farmer who was a bitter loss.
Oh the arrogance. Hogan with his medical history is not worth two first rounders. Pick 6 in a super draft is a fair price. Andrew Brayshaw and a first rounder is an absolute pipe dream. If anybody is holding anybody over a barrel it's us with you. Melbourne want May now and to get him they'll need to give up a top 10 selection (that they don't have). We're happy to wait 12 months and grab Hogan when he's out of contract and if he has further injury issues next year you better believe his value dips. Of course by this point the player you want (May) is playing at Collingwood when you could have had him for our pick 6 a year ago. Basically, there's no better time to get good value for Hogan than right now.

Next year would be another transition year. Questions would be asked of McCarthy, Taberner and Apeness.

Our midfield would need to be re-jigged, obviously.

But we’d finally have some tall targets. I’d also swing Cox back.

You can build around Hogan.

We’ve been crying out for a key forward for years. If we’re to lose Neale, Hogan is an outstanding replacement although not like for like.
If we get both Hogan and Lobb, I would be trading out Apeness and Taberner.

Leave hogan until next year
If lachie goes for 4 and 22
Trade 4 for 9-10
Go to the draft with
5,9,10,22
We will know by the end of 2019 who of your existing youngsters are keepers and trade hard for what we need.

Can’t argue that the draft hand there sets us up beautifully. But if Hogan wants in and his Foot is ok, we need to get it done

I'm not sure if I want him or just don't want to have to play against him in the Derby. He would probably be a handy contested marking forward/ruck for us. Put oppo defences under pressure

I would be happy for him to kick his 1 goal, and get 10 possessions in the derby. Hopefully the 700k they pay him uses up there salary cap.

If Hogan is fit to play and we can walk away from the trade table with anything close to a straight swap for Lachie Neale we would be making off like bandits.
Demons haven't won a GF since the sixties, if Hogan is fit and is the difference next year to a higher ladder, winning a GF
then their fans wouldn't care if he left, with them holding the cup.
Its like trading Kennedy, etc, doesn't make sense, or am I missing something?

I think the hidden story here is that Melbourne have gone and signed a group of their players as they became competitive and the next contract for Jesse Hogan isn't looking anything like the offers he was getting from Fremantle a couple of years ago. Now they are going after even more high profile players and if you're Hogan you'd see the writing on the wall. They won't have $1,000,000 a year to spend on him when he is next negotiating a new deal.

I'd definitely be happy with that or trade 5 & 10 for Hogan and 28 and go to the draft with 9 & 22, 28.

I still would like us to pick up M Bennell, and he should be available as a late pick.

Who knows what this new concession for Gold Coast and Carlton does. Bennell probably doesn’t go within the top five in the country (mature aged concessions) but could go higher in the National Draft or it could make little impact whatsoever.

Until Hogan actually asks for a trade, I refuse to get too caught up in this. Melbourne will dig their heals in.
I don't see Hogan openly asking for a trade away from Melbourne publicly. He will be very cautious in case a trade does not occur so will probably more say through his manager that he is open to a trade if Melbourne can get one done.

And you'd hope so. He is contracted and Melbourne has been good to him, and to be honest he has seemed pretty happy living in Melbourne.

It may be along the lines of what I think may have happened with Neale, but for different reasons. A player looking at the club and seeing that being traded could benefit both themselves and the club. If Melbourne sees themselves as having surplus tall forwards and can strengthen other areas, then the move could be vital.

Melbourne being willing to move Hogan this year has alarm bells all over it.

I still think it is click bait but if not then gee i hope we do or due diligence extra careful like on his medical. It smells bad to me.

They'd be over cautious after Trengove - just like we were re: Stephenson and Pitt
