I think his stats say he is elite. His contested possession, centre clearances etc are elite. He is like Stuv in that he doesn't get noticed because he's at a smaller under performing club.

He's elite this year because he's statistically in the top 5 for a lot of the most important midfield markers. It's part of the reason North have ben a surprise packet. Goldy and Cunnington are having an outstanding season and Higgins is the perfect type to play along side him.

Exactly mate.

Overal disposals & metres gained have to be the most overrated stats & it’s why Tom Mitchell will be the most undeserving Brownlow winner since Shame Wowoden.

Give me a midfielder that can win his own footy (contested possession), move the ball forward from a neutral position (clearances) and/or contribute to the team scoring (score involvements) over Mitchell’s 50 disposals a game.

As you said, Cunnington is elite in a few of those meaningful midfield stats & he is a big reason why his team has had a decent season.

Cunnington is a gun, he has touched St Kilda up a few times.

North don’t get much respect but their list is better than people think.

It was funny working over a couple of north visitors on this board last year but I’m really not surprised they’re a chance for a finals spot.

Are we trading Cunnington? Just going by the last 2 pages...

We made him a lucrative offer but he said he doesn’t want to come to a rabble & play under Richo.

Anyway, with JG coming in as list manager do we expect a change in approach to trading in players? Since the Pelican & Baines cleaned up our cap a number of years ago we have been unwilling to offer monster deals much over 800k pa. I wonder if JG will change things up & start flinging around?

Interesting points you raise up. In supporting that view I’d rather a player like Shaun Higgins in my team then Mitchell , Cunnington , Cotchin , etc

His class and contested work is so valuable

Still think it was brutal that Shame was delisted at 30. Campaigner lost a bit of toe, but he'd still be in our top 4-5 players at that age in our current team. He came 2nd in the B&F a year before he was cut.

None of us are any better than each other at being a supporter. We all want the one thing - our club to be successful & win premierships.

I am a true supporter, as are you. Don’t be so petty just because I pointed out our flaws as a club. For us to be successful, they need to be resolved... Tell me I’m wrong on that one & you’re kidding yourself
Now who sounds like Kathy.

I enjoyed a good sermon although I thought a tad patronising.

Can you please explain how pointing out the obvious about the whinging is petty? Discussion is great and clearly great for all, and club problems will always be a feature but we don't resolve them or you are kidding yourself. This is not the club it's a forum for anyone and in no way connected to the actual club. Whinging is just a release of frustration and when you get pages of it based on over reaction to posters that throw up unsubstantiated rumours, ideas, thoughts they just want to air it becomes unreadable.

By the way I wasn't talking directly to you in my original post. Clearly you feel aggrieved so sorry for the offence.

According to my man Wright 1 we have a inside-outside, quick, bull of a midfielder on our radar. He’s a overager playing in the EFL, leadership qualities that would excite Trout & has a name that would suit an 80s action movie star! I looked the campaigner up & he looks bloody good. Just hope we take a punt & other clubs aren’t sniffing around.
They mite be now!

You do realise that Tom Mitchell is 4th for contested possessions, 1st for clearances, 2nd for centre clearances, 1st for stoppage clearances and 6th for inside 50s. Plus top 15 in about every other important stat for midfielders, both inside and outside.
But yeah, his stats are meaningless while the 6 different variety of clearance ranking means Cunnginton is elite.

Some of these recruiters have to drive past the Caulfield, Brighton haileybury etc for a change and do some work.

This young bloke of 20 with a rugby background has a recorded jump like Nic Nat and is as quick as coffield comes in at 195cm and weights 90kgs plus.

He can play as well, sure he needs some work but he’s just the type you rookie.

Two years of hard work might turn up an absolute gem.

Really agree with this. Pretty sure I heard that something like 90% of all draftees come from private schools. Recruiters need to lower the eyes and look at some local comps. Good non- AFL players often choose comps like EFL over VFL as they get paid more and have bigger crowds. There would be plenty of good players there who were not in a position to be drafted at 18yo but could come in and play well at AFL level

Probably because the private schools scour local junior comps and offer scholarships for the final few years of schooling to kids going to state secondary schools.

It would be interesting to see how many of that percentage started in the state system before being poached.

I think they hey have acknowledged that you have to pay overs and will act accordingly.

Mitchell is like a Cripps without the hype. Carrying a team into finals contention pretty much on his back week in week out.

True, but at what age are they doing that?

Mitchell was the king of meaningless stats last year but he has improved so much this year in terms of his influence and work around the ground.
Agree, Last year his stats were good but not as effective on the game as they have been this year. It looks like he is getting on the score sheet more from the naked eye as well.

If we have a large supporter base, why do we get consistently get only 25k to games?
Because we are shit at the moment.

Look at ours & Richmond's crowd figures in 2009 & 2010.

If you are a good side people will go to watch you play.

And I've seen the AFL figures. Richmond & St.Kilda latent supporter base almost identical.

Anyway...
