Prediction 2018 Starting 22

Hey all. What are the Giants going to do regarding you rebounding smalls? Wilson, Shaw and Williams made you guys terrifying on the rebound but one is gone across the nullabor, the other gone for most of the year and the other 30+. I think you guys are still loaded in terms of midfield talent and KPP which will get you deep into finals once again, but any idea who might pop up on that HBF/BP? I have heard good things about Isaac Cummings maybe?
While Isaac is the most like-for-like replacement, he didn't feature in the pre-season games, so don't expect to see him at the start of the season, but hopefully he gets a chance at some point. From the pre-season games, expect round 1 to have Whitfield drop back (provides run & pinpoint passing off HBF) and seemingly Deledio also. May see Tommo move onto a wing with his endurance to replace Whitfield, and Finlayson come in - while he's tall, he's also got some speed, footskills & a booming kick (not unlike Wilson). That combo replaces the attributes lost to a large extent, but not in a direct like-for-like player replacement. Once they get fit, Adam Kennedy & Matt Buntine will also come into contention - probably not as counterattacking as Williams/Wilson, but better defensively.

My best guess.

Don’t think Scully will play. I think Langdon gets the nod before others. I think they will go with Hopper and Corr if they show enough this week at training and game simulation. So pretty confident. I think it looks good on paper
Langdon for sure. Going in with Hopper, Lobb, Corr and Lids is concerning.

Hi folks, please excuse the intrusion.
How far off is Adam Kennedy, and do you see him as best 22?
Looking at him as a late pick in a keeper league draft.
Cheers.

Sorry to crash the board, but how do we think Taranto will do this year? 2nd year blues? I am looking forward to seeing his progression. Will be played off HFF? Does he get much time through the midfield with all your jets through there?

Should be a big year for you boys!

Can't specifically comment in regards value in a keeper's league. But just in terms of playing, he's supposedly only a couple of weeks away from playing, but will be pretty rusty after a whole year off. Depending on injuries, he probably doesn't really come into serious first grade calculations until one-third of the way into the year. He's probably not assured of best 22, but he's certainly just on the fringe - especially with Williams & Wilson gone he'd be an option getting a close look. Could also play as a defensive forward, as his lockdown defending is pretty capable. I expect he'll get a run in first grade this year at some point (unless our injuries are miraculously light and we win a lot), but perhaps limited to 6 to 10 games. Not sure if that helps you at all.

Yeah, the risk is second year blues, but we have fingers crossed it doesn't happen. I'm expecting to see him play more midfield time. Interestingly, co-captain Phil Davis nominated him as one to shine this year & to assume some of the physical midfield work lost with Mummy's retirement - take that as you will, but I'm expecting he'll get plenty of time complementing the starters (being Ward, Cogs, Kelly, Shiel) and given that Setterfield is gone for the season and Griff & Hopper seem to pick up regular injuries.

Getting a better idea of the best 22 and with LCs comments about the 3 talls in attack i can see HH a likely starter although I think that would make the side too tall unless one of Haynes/Corr or Tomlinson drop out of the 22
I would have one of Shipley and Bonar as possibilities based on pre season but dependant on a few players passing fitness tests

I wouldn't unless you are happy with depth and a low ceiling, his SC value is around 70 points max, his value to us a lot higher.

Given the injuries reported by Adam Curley I’m not sure who to bring in for Sunday:

Shaw Davis Finlayson
Haynes Tomlinson Whitfield
Shipley Shiel Kelly
Taranto Cameron Greene
Himmelberg Patton DeBoer
Simpson Cogs Ward
Lloyd Langdon Perryman Keefe

I’m a big fan of Shipley. Big, great engine and is a good user.

Injury list
‘Ryan Griffen (ankle) is no chance of facing his former side the Western Bulldogs in round one, while Jacob Hopper (groin) is also unlikely, and doubts still linger over Tom Scully (knee) and Aidan Corr (groin). Brett Deledio (Achilles) and Rory Lobb (groin) had extremely interrupted pre-season campaigns so might require another couple of games in the NEAFL.’
Adam Curley.

My previous attempt at round 1 team presumed Scully, Hopper & Lobb would all be fit, but not Griffen - looks like none will be fit nor Corr either (no point risking those with any with lingering issues). So, removing Corr, Scully, Lobb, Hopper & Deledio (damn, that's a long injury list to start the competition), I'd look at:

Shaw Davis Finlayson
Haynes Tomlinson Whitfield
MDB Coniglio Kelly
Greene Cameron Langdon
HH Patton Bonar
Simpson Ward Shiel
Lloyd Reid Taranto Perryman/Shipley

I'm not sure if Perryman will be considered fit if he's nursing a back injury (and it would be better to rest him if so); so we could see debuts handed to all of Bonar, Langdon & Shipley.

Taranto for 1 he is easily in your best 22 somehow forgotten by the negligent Curley

When is Lobb expected back? Is it possible that D. Simpson takes the RUC role and runs with it?

Yes, it's also possible Brisbane win the flag this year, just unlikely.

Rory is potentially going to be named for round one, but his fitness is questionable at best, I'd expact him to be managed through the season and Dawson to fill in the gaps. We have plenty of talls so naming two rucks doesn't make much sense. ie they are both shite SC options

Shit. :( Don't bother sugarcoating it or anything.

Will Lobb play?
Feel he is the best pod in supercoach this year.
Will Average 95+ being first ruck with his h/o’s to advantage.

Had him all pre season but him being 50-50 I don’t know what to do. Any insight would be amazing guys! Much appreciated

How cemented is Matt Deboer in the side? been playing a bit of wing. Had some good preseason outings. In the leadership squad but thats certainly no bypass to being picked every week.

Your a little depleted for wingmen with Kelly progressing to inside and Whitfield helping down back. Taranto maybe can spend time there and obviously Scully when he returns.

Does Scully knock him out of the side?

As Giant Pete said, he plays in our best 22.
He isn't a wingman for us, he is a defensive forward and one of the few we have, but roams the field a bit also :)

G'day folks. What happened with Toby Greene this week?
Reports said he was fit to go but not selected. Will he be right for next week?
Cheers.
Media reports and also from the club is hamstring soreness
This is a big game but he is obviously not right but if he misses a third week questions will be asked about the injury and it was also the same with his toe injury from his post season holiday in terms of the injury appearing more serious than what was reported (I am a conspiracy theorist btw)
He seemed to go alright in the first game of the season so I don't think it is related to his toe injury
