Rumour going around Beams and Neale will be done in one deal as we are refusing to let go of Beams until we are positive we will get Neale.

Going around where exactly?

I hate, HATE, that these two trades are hinging on each other. All the positivity about Lachie and Dayne playing in the same midfield next year and now... Good god I hope we don't package 18 along with 5 to Freo.

I think that's what will happen but we'll get something back from both Freo and Collingwood.

It is sobering to note that to the end of the 2017 season 39% of all players that have played AFL failed to reach 10 games. Only 31% of all players to have played reached 50 games and 17.5% 100 games (Stats courtesy of Reddit). According to ESPN, one of the most successful selections in draft history is pick 56 - 200 game players selected at 56 include Joel Patfull, Matthew Clarke, Daniel Bradshaw, Ryan O'Keefe and Daniel Cross. James Sicily will probably be added to that group. We can all name some top picks that have been equally unsuccessful. Now it just so happens that pick 5 has been reasonably successful with players at that pick averaging 103 games per career, but players at 6 haven't done so well (@53 games each). Don't know about pick 18. But clearly you don't know what you will get at any pick. Except of course if you're trading players for them.

If it's pick 18 alone for Beams that would be a shocker for us particularly if it's passed straight on to the Dockers along with 5 for Neale. We must get the Pies 2019 1st in that scenario.

I wouldn't be too happy either if the Dockers then got Hogan off the Demons for pick 5 alone and kept 18.

On the other hand if we somehow manage to hold on to pick 5 and Neale in Beams out as was suggested in a mega trade hypothetical earlier Noble will go from great bloke to Messiah.

Would have to be a massive change from here for us to miss Neale (surely) as every rumour under the sun has this deal being done.
I hope so, I’d be devastated if we were to miss him for the sake of a second round pick.

Reason for wanting to do all deals at once adds up for me. Imagine you are Bell (perish the thought). Verbally agreed to x for Neale. Beams deal done. If I am Freo I turn the screws and say sorry now I want this year's first and next years too. We say no. Chance we lose Beams and don't get Neale, fan base is ropable (disaster in my book).

It's also good planning, to loose Beams and not get Neale would be a terrible result. Beams if he goes I think will be after Neale and I'm not sure Beams will go. If May gets to Melbourne this year Collingwood will still be looking for a good size beckman next year, knowing they cant get May on free agency anymore they would need to keep their round 1 pick to trade somewhere while their window is still open. If May doesn't go then they might come late with round 1 this year and next for Beams. Either the Pies or Brisbane have to gamble, I'd rather it be them and we hold firm until we get Neale.
