problems for us if we want to trade up I think - off the Brisbane Board

Tom Browne Reporting- Pies bold first Beams offer tells me deal reasonably close. Pies first, and future first, in exchange for a Brisbane future second, would probably appease the lions and get it done @7AFL @7NewsMelbourne @triplemfooty

If Bris take that, then they could easily just bypass us and offer pick 5 and pick 18 to Freo for Neale with something coming back. Then Freo hand the pick 5 and something to Melbourne for Hogan...we are not needed if that happens

Any chance we can trade Gov again to the Dockers for pick 5? :drunk:

Port Power's plan B is luring Lukosius and Rankine back home later.

Yeah good luck doing that when your list is in tatters, your current 30+ yo stars are retired. Meanwhile Darcy Fogarty is hitting his straps, Milera is then a star, McPherson is making his way and their former coach Brodie Smith gives these kids a call...

I'm pretty comfortable with competing against Port Power for them.

I'd be more comfortable without the third pick seeing under no circumstance am I trading next years first. We don't know what happens with NGA and I would say it's rather prudent to prepare for the worst possible outcome there.

Sorry, but I don’t really understand this. You’re more comfortable receiving less picks, just in case we decide to trade our 2019 1st?

I don’t think it has impact on what we do with our other picks next year. If we want to trade it, we’ll find a way around it anyway.

Wouldnt they be better off to do our deal, get those 2 picks from us, then do the Beams deal, giving them 8, 16 and 18 this year, and then do the Neale trade and still be in the 1st round of a Superdraft?

The other way just seems to be shortchanging themselves of a late 1st round player

How many live picks do we currently have?

No point holding 8, 13, 16 & 21, if we plan to only use 3 picks.

Depends - Cheney, Signorello, Hunter still unsigned

Currently list is
1- Greenwood
2- Crouch.B
3- Knight
4- Jenkins
5- CrouchM
6- Gibbs
7 - Gallucci
8 - Kelly
9- Sloane
10 Poholke
11 - Seedsman
12 Talia
13 - Walker
14- mackay
15 Hartigan
16 - Brown
17 - betts
18 - Atkins
19 - Otten
20 - Jacobs
21 - douglas
22 - Lynch
23 - Laird
24 - Milera
25 - Fogarty
26 - Smith
27 - mcPherson
28 - Doedee
29 - Davis
30 - Keath
31 - O'Brien
32 - Himmelberg
33 - Mcadam

Rookies - Cey, Wilson, Murphy

So we have 33 on our list with Cheney, Sig unsigned. So if they dont sign and we go 38+6 we have 5 picks+3 Rookies.

Its a pity there is so much SA talent in this draft.

An astute list manager could have owned the 2019 draft with the way everyone wants only 2018 draft picks.

We wont know for a few years if this draft was a super draft. The last time there was one, Neil Craig was our coach. :drunk:

More I'd only look at upgrading our current picks with the picks we have this draft.

I'm not worried about the idea of taking 2 players instead of 4 from this draft.

Could it be that Ports Cripps could be worse than Brett Burton

So I remember the crows making similar comments about Gibbs, and we got a warning from the AFL house and were "lucky" to escape sanctions for draft tampering!

From News.com at the time...
'AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson has accepted "a very apologetic" explanation from the Crows for recruiting manager James Fantasia's explosive interview in Melbourne's Herald-Sun last month.

'There will be no fine nor sanction - such as the loss of draft picks - against the Crows for Fantasia's remarks that were considered potentially an attempt to tamper with the draft process. However, if there is a repeat from Adelaide, Anderson says he will refer to Fantasia's newspaper interview.

'Fantasia put Adelaide's 15 AFL rivals "on notice" that whoever drafted midfielder Gibbs in the AFL national draft on November 25 would only have him as a guest player - that as soon as his two-year contract expired, the Crows would make every effort to bring Gibbs back to Adelaide.

'Adelaide officials last week admitted some of Fantasia's remarks were best left unsaid.

"We'll take no action against Adelaide this time," Anderson said at AFL House yesterday. "We have received a very apologetic explanation from the Crows. However, if there is a repeat we will take this incident into account."...'

I very much doubt Port will be treated the same (not because the Crows are victims, but because the AFL have matured (a little) since the Demetriou days, and are much less punitive)

It's moments like this that a huge shift in the trade period is at play

Calm before the storm or storm in a teacup

Either way I feel our off season grade wont slide lower than B+

So what you're sating is that something either IS or IS NOT going to happen! hmmm....interesting!

I am assuming you are the kind of person who has never lost on a horse race because you back every runner

...see what I did there:)........horse flee...horses..."back"...yeah it was a bad pun :(

What an absolute flog Cripps is.

Right now, these boys are the centre of the AFL universe, but once the draft is over, they'll be small cogs in the AFL wheel.

The best thing for them is that for whoever ends up drafting them, they're allowed to develop without a circus going on around them.

I would hope if JR is asked something similar, he has a bit more class and says something like he hopes that the boys are a success at whichever club they get drafted to and the Crows will assess their trading options every year as they always do.

I like what he said. He is insinuating there is a massive flight risk with those 3 sa boys

This will.make clubs like GC think more about who they draft and more chance those boys will still be around at pick six

I would prefer sa boys stay in sa

You mean you would prefer SA players go to Port..

If Port are going down the path to attract SA players back, I would rather back us to take any combination of SA lads - Hately, Valente, McLennan, Lewis etc. All members of the U18 SA leadership team which Luko was also part of too. If he goes to GC have them get in his ear, and who knows what might happen 1-2 years down the track.

I have a feeling this draft will be end up being the best of the bunch for us, and hopefully will highlight just how strongly we've drafted in the Pyke Era.

2015: Milera, Doedee
2016: Gooch, Poholke, Himmelberg, Davis
2017: FOG, McPherson
2018: As many as 4 top 21 players

That's potentially 12 blokes aged 21 or younger that will likely be pushing for selection as early as next year. Some might be our brightest stars in that time. People talk about 'rebuilding' like its a filthy word, but depending on how we handle this next month we could have done the majority of it without anyone really noticing!

It's Schrodinger's Trade - it is both happening and not happening simultaneously.

Using this model 2017 proved it's the best way to go. We choked in the GF, simple as that. The best teams keep churning their lists yearly. So what if we trade a few so-called stars out. Get good returns and in the end we'll become one hell of a team and club. We don't have the luxury of the top Vic. teams who can steal their kids back for peanuts, year after year.

Every damn club wants to win the flag, stop pouting and crying like a little kid.
You seem to think that winning the draft /trades means that eventually you will win a premiership... Maybe you need to check for any teal in your wardrobe?

Whilst it would be funny seeing port trade one of their best players, it would actually be better if he stays with all the acrimony that is seemingly between him and the club. Then leave next year for nothing
Agree. Port will actually do quite well if they get Burton, Lycett along with pick 6 and 10. Have given up there outside run in wingard and polec but not a complete bust for them. Depends who they pick at 6 and 10. They will still not make the top 8 imo with the likely improvement of us and essendon.

And this is why I'm not all that desperate to trade up the draft. We already have 8, 13, 16, 21. Looking at our history in recent years, I'd back our recruiters to nail all 4 of those picks, local players or not.
