Next we'll have a Melbourne player going to the Gold Coast for a holiday and 12 months later come back to Melbourne .....it is after all a reflection of society as well, we leave jobs to go overseas on holidays

So Hogan does go to Freo on a 8 year, $1M a year contract ....so what ! ...after 2 years he may well decide to come back to Melbourne on an even better deal .....there will be soon a line drawn in the sand by clubs !!

The AFLPA has ruined the AFL to some degree with player movement being so easy and the AFL are to blame for rolling over.

There has to be a rule in place that deters Clubs for going after players that are contracted. For starters I would like to see them forfeit a 1st rounder pick.

You’d have to wonder why we are targeting Luko over Rankine if indeed that is the case?
Surely us being in the window, Rankine will help us first as well as being the bigger need, the more talented player (from what I read) and the more realistic chance to get him.

Because if you are aiming for instant improvement, you've already ****ed up by taking a first rounder to the draft.

We'd be targeting Luko as we believe he will be the better player in the long run.

It's not the AFLPA ...they support Contracts ..it's the weak clubs who are failing to enforce a Contract, yet want the ability to trade a player to a club, the player doesn't necessarily want to be at ...the hypocrisy of these two positions is amazing

IMO clubs that entice players to breach a Contract, should be liable to pay a % payout of that Contract, B4 entering into a fresh contract .....because of TPP restrictions, this will cause this habit to stop

But the AFL wants player movement, contracted or not .....so it's unlikely to introduce anything to protect clubs with contracted players

Then why the f aren't we doing it. We are just failing our due diligence by letting a player of his ability go somewhere else when players are doing all they can to leave the state.

Neale to Brisbane trade gets done for Pick 5. Freo will then use pick 5 for Hogan. Not sure who Freo is trying to kid with their bluffing??? Melbourne are desperate for May so they'll be using that pick 5 also to trade him in.

That leaves Gold Coast with picks 2, 3 & 5.

Adelaide use Himmelberg, picks 13 & 21 to get in picks 3 or 5, 30 & future 2nd/3rd round.

Adelaide also go to St Kilda with Atkins, picks 8 & 16 to get in pick 4, 28 & future 2nd/3rd round.

Can flip the picks offered to Gold Coast & St Kilda respectively to accommodate what they want.

Leaves Adelaide with picks 3 or 5, 4, 28 & 30 this year.

Gold Coast into the King twins, leaves the 2 SA jets at 4 & 5.

Get it done!

Why does Himmlebergs name keep getting thrown up?? We have been developing him for 3 or so years and he finally earns his spot in the team and looked very promising and people want to now move him on... he will be our future tall forward/back up ruck for many years.. could even be a 1st ruck if Sauce goes down injured. No way we are trading him.

If hawthorn have managed to devalue Wingard for pick 13 then it's just a no brainer. 2 years ago you never would have gotten him for that .

Some would see it as bold. I would see it as pain stakingly obvious.

If you are a club, you're in a much better situation to recieve at least a fair offer (if not good) if you're losing a contracted player.

So no. This is just following the trend in soccer where contracts are primarily about making sure the club gets good value if they lose a player.
