Nice cherry picking. Leaving out the mentions I have made of finding out what Port want, whether pick 13 would get it done, or pick 8 or pick 8 and 13 or Kelly on his own or Kelly and a pick in the 20s. But stick to your script. It sounds better.

You never mentioned that in that post. You just said it's madness we aren't going hard for him, kelly wants to leave and you'd take a straight swap.

It was a truly baffling post. I'm glad you tried to make it look better later on.

I came across the same Vox analysis, it's a real eye-opener. When the dust settles we should send Reidy on a trip to study the draft pick trading of the Baltimore Ravens and NE Pats.

You're assuming Reid would be driving this? If anything Ogilive would be the main one who wants this.

Contracts mean nothing anymore.

The AFLPA has ruined the AFL to some degree with player movement being so easy and the AFL are to blame for rolling over.

There has to be a rule in place that deters Clubs for going after players that are contracted. For starters I would like to see them forfeit a 1st rounder pick.
And there has to be rules in place to stop contracted players requesting trades to specific clubs! If there's personal reasons you need to go "home", then fine, the Club will deal with all clubs in your home state to find the best deal for both us and you, but you have no say. This would be on the proviso the purchasing Club will take over your existing contract at the same rate/length of time and you can negotiate for longer period/pay once there. If you are wanting to break your contract because someone has offered more... tough shit, you have to play your contract out.

Gold Coast are the thorn in our side this year. They hold all the cards we want and seem to not have the slightest interest in moving! I give us a 5% chance of changing their mind on moving out of 2&3.

The good news is though, I would imagine after the Port list managers public jibe yesterday I daresay we are on better speaking terms then them. And if there is a deal to be done, I would imagine they would prefer to do it with us.

Still, straw clutching at best though
I reckon if we do any trade with GC Francou will magically be an assistant with his mate Stewey next year.

All im saying is wingards value is at an all time low. Agreed? He wants to stay in SA reportedly. Hawthorn have screwed around and wasted ports time and wingards time, also making them look desperate.

Now is the time to enquire, and enquire again if we already have, because they may take less than they would have before just to get the deal done.

The fact there has been no mention of us enquiring or being in talks with Port about wingard I find baffling. Even if we don't plan on going through with a deal, why wouldn't we want it in our back pocket if our other plans fall through.

It's like I have always said. It's like the crows recruiters can only focus on 1 player or 1 trade at a time. Slow to act. Takes forever to get even a minor move completed. Unless it's a player leaving. That's usually pretty smooth and quick.

The problem is the only people that don't see that are Chad and Chad's manager. Even if we didn't give up a lot trade wise, we'd be getting rorted salary wise. No way would I pay what he's asking.

Go back and look. The post directly above yours. I said and I quote :

"Well I think that's is why now is the time to strike. Port are now aware of what he's worth . And what he's worth is at an all time low. If we swoop in and offer a no f ing around straight up fair trade and get it done we win.

Just keep it simple. Is he worth pick 8 or 13? Or pick 8 and 13, or Kelly on his own? What would Port accept out of those? Obviously we don't want to give 8 and 13 if we don't have to. Maybe 26 and Kelly?

We could get it done and offer whatever hawks pay for him. And I would rather see him in crows colours than hawthorn colours."

That's before you posted. So how's that going back and trying to make it look better afterwards. You are wrong. You can admit it, or be an internet troll and try and weasel your way out of it and be added to my ignore list.

A hypothetical

We trade 8 & 16 to Brisbane for 5 & 32
We trade 13 & 21 to Essendon for 9 & 34
We trade 9 & 32 to Port for Wingard
With pick 5 we grab one of the SA boys or Bailey Smith - so end up with Smith, Wingard, McAdam & Stengle (late trade) + take pick 34 to the draft

What's he asking? Again, I think now they would be aware of what they can actually get for him. And that would be a fair price for Adelaide to pay imo. I don't think you would be paying overs for him now.

My only problem with that is I don't think the crows recruiters would be capable of pulling all that together. It would require focusing on more than a single thing at a time.

yeah i would entertain a wingard trade .. not a top 10 pick though .. pick 13 or 16.

Doesn't matter. Crows are too slow. Heard on the radio just now hawks wingard trade is a step closer with wingard passing all physical tests.

Anyone else remember the melts when the AFC was "too slow" and what a disaster/capitulation it was when we "missed out on" Mark Neeld?

That's what this feels like.

I know what you are saying, however I would do it for picks 13 & 21 but I suspect Port would want a top 10 pick which the hypothetical showed might work by trading for. Essendon could then go to GWS with 13 & 21 for Shiel and it probably gets done for that

It was reported back at the start of trade week that he wanted something in the order of $1m x 5 years. If that was actually his demands, I assume he's since lowered his price, because I'm sure Hawthorn wouldn't be bringing him in on that kind of coin? I certainly wouldn't be handing over a first round pick or two AND paying that kind of salary. That kind of money is for the free agents where you're not giving up anything except money.

They wouldnt trade him to us.

The names escape me at the moment, but I know of a couple of Crows players that we let go for compassionate reasons and allowed a smooth transfer.

I think there was a ruckman we had from Perth and Kane Johnson IIRC too as well.

The problem with being compassionate is that you know someone will exploit the system well.

Surely there is a club out there that will take Kelly. Don't see a lot of opportunity for him at the crows. Maybe a St Kilda or Carlton would be a better fit imo.
