Rather than a number of posters bitch and moan (something we in SA are bloody good at doing in this state), tell us what they would have done specifically to improve our squad from day 1 of the 2019 AFL season?
So you want posters to come up with strategies that you claim are beyond our paid recruiting department, is that what you’ve resorted to?

Here is a hint, it’s possible, other clubs have done it. You identify a player you want, you pay the price and you trade them in. We go into 2019 with a dodgy ruck combination, I would have started there.

70lethal,

You don’t know what happens behind the scenes.

We do have a major disadvantage, we live in Adelaide and not Melbourne. Shit, we use to be the 3 biggest city and now Brisbane and Perth have passed us by a long way. We are a small state that each year becomes more insignificant - we grow our population by 10k in a year, Melbourne grow by 10k per month!

Players here don’t have the anonymity of Melbourne with it 10 teams.

You can point to Port acquiring players but how - offering big fat contracts over long periods. Do you want to go down that path?

Are not the players from GWS and GCS going back originally from Vic?

Personally I find finishing bottom abhorrent.

I don't think I mentioned Port. They made bigger trading mistakes. They've lost anyone with speed for one reason or another complete disaster, White, Impey, Young, Polec, Wingard and replace with Plodders. ******s.

Sydney were a basket case as was hawthorn, just like Melbourne and Carlton
the results are a reflection on all aspects of a club.
If your timid or crap in 1 area it will be almost impossible to succeed. It only takes one or two people to change a clubs fortunes.

Clark and Camporeale are a classic case of club culture of status quo.

The club reeks of it.
The drafting success has minimized inept in most other areas.

No one wanted to go to Brisbane 2 years ago and everyone was leaving what has changed?

For future reference (from here):

Adelaide 7/10
Brisbane 8/10
Carlton 7.5/10
Collingwood 7/10
Essendon 8.5/10
Geelong 7/10
Gold Coast 6/10
GWS 5/10
Hawthorn 8/10
Melbourne 8/10
North Melbourne 7/10
Power 7/10
Richmond 8.5/10
St Kilda 6/10
Sydney 5.5/10
West Coast 8/10
Western Bulldogs 6.5/10

Laughable.
Not sure how they came to much of that.

West Coast get next to nothing and they got an 8 ??

The fact we didn't address our main problem that we don't have a ruck says me to me the club believes we are no chance of winning a flag in 2019.

And just look at West Coasts trade period last year. Lost Mitchell, Priddis and Petrie, landed Brendon Ah Chee and hit the draft 5 times in the top 40. They would have been rated a "loser" of the trade period and they ended up winning the Premiership.

West Coast's trading/drafting in 2017 had little to no effect on their premiership.

Same applies to us, whether we will/won't get Rankine or Luko chances are that it will most probably have little to no bearing on our premiership hopes in 2019. Winning a premiership doesn't automatically make your trading/drafting from the year before a success.

1. Location has nothing to do with swapping of picks.
2, Even with Ross Lyon 2 players headed home.
3. Potentially an absolute gun forward and did they cough up 2 1sts?
4. What a good strategic move by Brisbane to recruit an injury prone mate to get a good mid.
5. Geelong didn't let Kelly go.
6, Money talks and we dont offer it
7. 28 year olds decide to stay and 23 year olds walk out. Nothing to do with location.
8. Jenkins was bought in as a forward. Got check the facts

From Josh himself "I barely recall my meeting with the Crows brass, but I do recall it was in St. Kilda. I remember the guys -- Matt Rendell, Hamish Ogilvie, the late Dean Bailey and David Noble -- explaining where they thought I fitted into things in Adelaide. I was somewhat pigeon-holed as a ruckman at Essendon but Adelaide saw me more of a forward and even a defender. I remember 'Bails' asking me whether I could play on Kurt Tippett and how I would go about defending him."

No, tell me what player you would have identified and made a play.

FFS - West Coast just won with Lycett and Vardy!
Lycett is a half decent ruck. Just needed an opportunity. Vardy had the game of his life in the grand final and has always had huge potential. His body has always let him down. Wce is a good point. They lose Nic Nat and Lycett and somehow manage to find a ruckman. We have an inept dinosaur running around that is embarrassing and find who? No one.

I would have made a play for Preuss. I would have told him he is the number one ruck and Jacobs is the back up.

We know Jacobs is past it, that’s a fact. He gets slaughtered by the best rucks and his taps to advantage are average when he wins it.

I saw on the other post you laughed at the ruck combination of Vardy and Lycett, how did they go against Grundy and Gawn? Compare those performances to Jacobs, now tell me we couldn’t improve in that area for 2019.

Well the AFL stepped in for one reason - do we need to go down that path?

You know one thing I don’t want is seasons where we are shot even before we even start.

Yes, we are overdue for a flag, no doubt about that.

How did you know we didn’t?

Perhaps he didn’t want to leave Melbourne?

Don’t assume.

Lycett played 51 games in the 7 seasons prior!

I'd scatter some loose change on the ground then mark the ball uncontested while Kurt was scrabbling around in the dirt to pick it all up.

We can't go with Jacob's again. Just can't. Move Jenkins into the ruck for a 50/50 split interchanging with Himmelberg and Greenwood. Then spend the whole of 2019 scouring the league for a bloody ruckman. They are out there. Pay them and they will come.

How did you know we didn’t?

Perhaps he didn’t want to leave Melbourne?

Don’t assume.
Reid said we didn’t.

But let’s assume we did, we couldn’t convince him to come here to become number one ruck instead of a back up ruck?

Either way, you wanted a solution, I gave you one.

The Preuss decision is strange. He will not get games at Melbourne. He obviously only cared about staying in Melbourne and security. I understand that but don't you want to be the main man? Obviously he doesn't.
