Pruess manager (I think it was) was on trade radio, they stated that Pruess specifically wanted to play with Gawn and Melbourne have a plan to play both players or at least give Pruess more game time.
So we couldn’t convince him to come over to become no 1 ruck or we didn’t try? Either way it’s a failing when ruck is a clear deficiency.

Jenkins was originally earmarked to be a defender more than a forward. So nope on getting him to replace Tippett.
I think you’ve got that backwards Nikki
From Josh himself "I barely recall my meeting with the Crows brass, but I do recall it was in St. Kilda. I remember the guys -- Matt Rendell, Hamish Ogilvie, the late Dean Bailey and David Noble -- explaining where they thought I fitted into things in Adelaide. I was somewhat pigeon-holed as a ruckman at Essendon but Adelaide saw me more of a forward and even a defender. I remember 'Bails' asking me whether I could play on Kurt Tippett and how I would go about defending him."

I would have made a play for Preuss. I would have told him he is the number one ruck and Jacobs is the back up.

We know Jacobs is past it, that’s a fact. He gets slaughtered by the best rucks and his taps to advantage are average when he wins it.

I saw on the other post you laughed at the ruck combination of Vardy and Lycett, how did they go against Grundy and Gawn? Compare those performances to Jacobs, now tell me we couldn’t improve in that area for 2019.
We did make a play and we told him that Sauce does not have a mortgage on the role and the role is there for you to win

We were not prepared to beat Melb offer of 4 years / $525k per season for a 8 game player

Melb are paying him very good coin to play in the reserves and the occasional afl game. Actually sounds a sweet deal. Partner probably loves Melb and did not want to leave I would presume.

I'm blown away Dorodo had to pay 2x firsts. Never thought it would happen, especially with GWS cap issues.

Good to see him pay the fair price/overs for once.
Once GWS moved on Lobb and Scully this gave them the necessary cap relief to dig their heels in with Essendon

The vwas the true value in the Scully deal

He also said there was no third club involved with McGovern.

Perhaps we do have a strategy in place.
I’ve got no idea why he’d lie like that, I can understand not giving specifics but there is no need to lie about a ruckman or a third party.

The Preuss decision is strange. He will not get games at Melbourne. He obviously only cared about staying in Melbourne and security. I understand that but don't you want to be the main man? Obviously he doesn't.

Getting paid $500k per year and not being in the main team. Where can I sign up?

And there it is, we knew we had a deficiency, we identified a player, we valued him enough to think he could be our solution but we didn’t want to pay the money.

Instead we are better off spending the money on guys like Mackay and we go into 2019 with a finished ruckman.

So what are we doing with McGoverns money?

Burton is getting a pay rise. Had a stellar year.

Ummm.....ok
Unoriginal, not particularly funny and obviously not able to comprehend! By all means run around like aheadless chook with a skirt over your head believing the world is about to end!

The only benefit of moving up the draft now is to be ahead of port. Ports swap with Brisbane yesterday has taken them off the table so we are now left with working with Gold Coast or saints (Carlton price would be far too high). Without being able to leverage off another deal I feel that the price for straight pick swaps will be too high. In terms of trying to secure supreme local talent, I feel that we have been outplayed by port. I’m very happy with the picks we have though but can’t see how we can get Rankine or luko. Rozee is our best bet but probably gone by our pick. In the end ,Hamish will sort us out. I have faith.

In the case of Pruess, I don't blame the club for baulking there. 550k+ for a 23 year old, 8 game ruckman would be required from us.

I'd want Ried sacked if he signed off on that. It's an atrocious salary for someone who has done little.

Agree.

Port seem to have outplayed us in the trade periods for the past 6 seasons and yet somehow we are now leading the Showdown count after that lead 19-16 after the 2013 season and 2013 draft (when they acquired Polec in 2013 draft, Ryder in 2014, Dixon and Toumpas in 2015 and Watts/Motlop/Rockliff in 2017) and our list looks in much better shape.

Average wage these days for a starting 22 player is 400k. The fact Melb are paying 500k for a reserves player is somewhat strange but we should have brought in a ruckman.

To be fair, Port stop looking like they out played us in the preceding trade period usually by Easter the following year.

Unfortunately that still leaves six months of chicken littling

So you want posters to come up with strategies that you claim are beyond our paid recruiting department, is that what you’ve resorted to?

Here is a hint, it’s possible, other clubs have done it. You identify a player you want, you pay the price and you trade them in. We go into 2019 with a dodgy ruck combination, I would have started there.
Hang on so you are more than happy to take pot shots but not willing to offer alternatives that you would have done if it was your call?

WOW! It is a picture perfect definition of a whinger where whatever others are doing is dead wrong and its setting us back but not a hint of what alternative moves should have been done. Sorry but that is just piss weak!

Lycett is a half decent ruck. Just needed an opportunity. Vardy had the game of his life in the grand final and has always had huge potential. His body has always let him down. Wce is a good point. They lose Nic Nat and Lycett and somehow manage to find a ruckman. We have an inept dinosaur running around that is embarrassing and find who? No one.
Let me put it in simple terms for you

Jacobs and Jenkins >>>>> Lycett and Vardy

Geelong who have been crying our for a ruckman for years gave Vardy away for a half eaten pie and half a handful of peanuts.

And West Coast let the other one walk while NicNat is still not running

We should have tried to get Tom Scully. Offer a future 4th rounder. Could have sold it to Tom that we could back our medical staff to get him right.:D
