blakely going to start as a midfielder next year? I wasn’t a fan of McCartin in the back line and I think he’s got real potential as a FF. Maybe Reid finally becomes that defender he wants to be?
I like the potential trade but I’m not sure where it fits and what we need to give up.

No idea who this bloke is, but he absolutely should be running our trade negotiations.

This is a 7 year club defining move if we give up players at 5 and 9 for Daniher and latter picks. Just crazy on that injury.
Reminders: His older sibling had to retire from AFL at 22 due to incurable groin injury,
and Doc Larkin's recent thoughts

But lets get excited. yay.

The Swans are mugs for being led up this garden path.

I think his worth to be a late first, and only on a heavily incentive based two year contract with a team option on a third year.

Happy to see the Dons hold onto him and take the rehab risk while pissing him off and then we move on it next year. That's the sane move.

I'll be dead surprised if Harley isn't bent over at both the trade table AND the contract this month.

I get some people wishing we were spending big to bring in another midfielder or two but the reality is that we don't have the luxury of exceptionally talented players nominating us every year. Or every other year. Victoria, WA, and SA clubs benefit from that all the time, we have to take every talented player who wants to play for us we can get because they're motivated to be here and are very unlikely to want to leave. It's a bonus when it's someone as exceptionally talented as Joe Daniher. He's 25 and obviously has had injury problems, but he's not the first tall to suffer from OP. I see no reason our medical team can't get his body right and we've got a true superstar for the nearly a decade.

Excellent news. Plus he's right in the age bracket we need more of to make a move back into premiership contention. If we can get another one or two (Nick Robertson, Lewis Taylor, Tom Cutler, or somehow manage to get Harley Bennell's body to be trustworthy) we'll have had an excellent off-season. I'd keep Papley too, unless we get something absurdly good, and that would leave us in an excellet position with our list moving forward.

i dont think anyone doubts daniher's upside or value.

the concern is what we will give up for him vs the option of just waiting a year and taking young midfielders in the draft.

2 or maybe 3 really good young midfielders, plus 2 more academy kids next year, plus Daniher as a free agent and it would be party time!

When a generational talent wants to come your way, you don't wait and risk him changing his mind.

Also unclear on what the club has done recently to deserve the benefit of doubt here?

Mitchell squeezed out
Horse extended
Papley and Jones want out
Picked up Thurlow and Clarke last trade period

Mitchell was at a time with peak salary cap issues and we were relatively well stocked in the midfield.

Horse has been a successful coach so far and deserved further opportunity. We blooded youth this year and they developed

Papley appears to be mostly due to his GF (nothing we can do about that).

Jones not sure on maybe he is just asking for more than we want to give?

Thurlow and Clarke cost peanuts and provide ok depth and cover (I was impressed with Clarke tagging this year actually).

True, do you know any generational talents we can get? Cripps, Fyfe, Martin, Grundy are generational talents.

Remember when we were all ****-a-hoop at offloading Hanners contract? And couldn't believe anyone would want any part of it? Imagine if we'd gotten two top ten picks too ? ... ..... :D:D:D:D:D:D🍾🥂

This is how Essendon fans must be feeling right now. If those rumours are correct they'll likely carry him to the airport.

Absolutely. Cameron had never kicked 30 goals when he was traded. Papley has 2 such seasons.
Papleys a midfielder as well as a small forward which should improve his value.

Daniher will have to find his own ball, Bombers had a midfield, we do not.

2016 'worst team ever' Bombers spoon year Daniher scored 43 goals and 32 points from 204 kicks and 141 marks as a 22 year old.

No one in our team this year scored 43 goals.

Besides, have/have nots seems a stretch and while our midfield certainly needs work mids can be found anywhere, what Daniher can do is rare, and he wants to play for us.

Yeah, but Hanners had a pretty poor season leading to his trade, and was lucky to be best 22 at some point. Daniher was just about BOG in his most important game this year.

2 top 10 picks would be ridiculous, but it's all based on a rubbish Damian Barrett article who before and after writing it has completely contradicted it on several occasions. Take the scenario he presented with a grain of salt.

Personally, I'm putting my feet up and rejoicing in the fact that we have a gun player that wants to come with us, while the list managers do their thing. If they **** it up monumentally, I'll provide some highly entertaining melts, as I'm sure we all will. But until then I'm sitting back and enjoying the thought of Joe, Bud and Heeney sharing the forward 50.

I reckon we will trade pick 5

sydney havent pushed any bs articles about draft out etc

only head draft was shallow
I think pick 5 is overs. He worth more a late top 10 to early teens pick. However, if it come down to trading Papley in order to get pick 9 to give to the druggies I'd prefer to use our pick 5 and keep Papley.
