SSwans2011
Hall of Famer
I find this notion that we shouldn't trust the club seriously laughable. They've made a couple of mistakes sure, but it's not like we've only missed 2 finals series since 2001 or anything...

To be fair, plenty of people were pessimistic about the Buddy deal. Not like they ever came out and admitted that he's been a pretty handy pick-up despite their doomsday talk back in 2013.whats there to trust
deals not done yet and hes a proven player
Our propensity in recent years to get pantsed at trade time because we allow players to head to Vic for “family reasons” erodes trust.I find this notion that we shouldn't trust the club seriously laughable. Perfectly said!Nah mate its ok to be excited and cautious at the same time.
If we can't get adequately compensated for a bloke who recently committed until 2023 with HIS signature, then even the kind hearted & caring soul in me says toughen up Paps, as you are only one hour away from Melbourne by plane & it would take longer to get from your proposed home in Carlton to Bunyip then it would from Sydney to Melbourne. Sorry RUNSV but I cannot agree with you on this occasion.
When he was bypassed by Carlton & the other 9 Vic teams in the draft, it wasn't until we took him with pick 14 in the rookie draft that he had this chance to become an AFL player but now the sob story which just 100% a money move.
This was the discussion on Fox between King & Montagna.
‘A top-10 pick for Tom Papley? Kingy please...’: AFL greats clash over Blues’ trade plan
‘Top-10 pick? Kingy please’: AFL greats clash over Blues’ trade planwww.foxsports.com.au
"As for Papley, it’s expected Sydney will ask Carlton for its first draft selection (Pick 9) in exchange.
But 287-game St Kilda champion Leigh Montagna said he had “question marks” over the two targets, in particular Papley, who’s reportedly looking at a five-year deal worth around $600,000 to $700,000 per season.
Montagna said he wouldn’t “give up the farm” for Martin and, especially, Papley."
Now if Carlton truly & honestly believe Paps is worth that then they need to pay & we need to force him to stay because it's not about his girl.
If then he is unhappy after two years with us & hasn't played well for us to keep up that ludicrous value Carlton have put on his head, then he only penalises himself. Revisit again every year until a Vic club is prepared to give us the overs we are chasing for a very good contracted player.
I'd start with Weitering, as I've pointed out before & torch Carlton gradually from there.
He is a Sydney Swans Football club asset. We must force his hand otherwise the other players on our list will be watching with interest if we are to nice on this occasion. We had no bargaining power with Mitchell but now even with a 4 year deal some people still want us to be nice.
Here's your choice Tom for the next 4 years.
a) AFL footballer for the Sydney Swans where you are in the leadership group & whom your Grandads both played for.
b) Watching Nick Newman play for Carlton on the sidelines because we won't trade you.
I for once as a supporter would love to see (b), my club stick it to a player one of these days instead of just folding.
I could cope more with that than watching him tear us new A-holes in the opposition's colours, when he should be playing for us being a long term contracted player.
So that's pick 10 and a 20s pick preserving our pick 5 & 25. Does nothing for team balance or needs but better than losing those players and two top ten picks.I'm thinking Papley and Jones for Daniher.
Sure...Daniher can ruck! The 2017 Daniher I'm fine with, not that we have a need for a FF, but the 2018-19 version makes me think of his brother Darcy. Played 5 games over his first two seasons both seasons cut short troubled with groin injuries, didn't play over the next two seasons before retiring with - unfixable OP!
Essendon haven't offered a contract extension because they have doubts about his injury, we should not be agreeing to a trade that gouges us and has the potential to stall our rise.
If Daniher is fit, maybe someone can explain where all of Daniher, Buddy, Reid & McCartin fit into the side? What are we doing about bolstering our well beaten midfield? This is the wrong trade at the wrong time, do it under RFA conditions next year.
With a dodgy groin, yeah!Sure...Daniher can ruck!
What are you going to do about it?So that's pick 10 and a 20s pick preserving our pick 5 & 25. Does nothing for team balance or needs but better than losing those players and two top ten picks.
I'm so angry we're into this!
He’s not going to **** the ball! With a dodgy groin, yeah!

Fair point. Still I'll back the club in after 16 finals appearances in 18 years. It is not like our 2018 finals was startling.
Also unclear on what the club has done recently to deserve the benefit of doubt here?
Mitchell squeezed out
Horse extended
Papley and Jones want out
Picked up Thurlow and Clarke last trade period
Daniher will have to find his own ball, Bombers had a midfield, we do not.
Thanks to a rubbish article by Barrett who just hours later stated we wouldn't accept 9 for Papley.Press saying it's likely to be Picks 5 and 9 in exchange Joe D.
It's high-fives all round at Essendon!
oh man...u read about people spilling drinks over a post..but never fully believe it...till it almost happens to yourself! dang! He’s not going to fu** the ball!
