Things will change but I think we would use pick 49, I think that would be too high to drop out. I think we will keep Butts as a Rookie and just upgrade Murphy.

That leaves six Senior spots and three Rookie? I think we will take one mature age player.
I reckon Tom Hutchesson has to be a chance as that mature ager.

Who will we look at with pick 4?
Lachie Ash would be my 1st preference, Vic/Country/Shepparton lad with hardness, top end speed and dare, excellent foot skills and not afraid to back himself in. Will play from round 1 if given the opportunity freeing up Brodie Smith/Milera to the midfield/wing I'd expect. Likely transitions into the midfield in the future. Plenty of really nice prospects available though as you would expect with pick 4....if we retain it of course.

Sorry got the equation wrong. We also had Frampton in.

So that's zero upgrades and all six at the draft. But a bit of flexibility in case we want to merge picks.

There's no advantage to upgrading players any more
Saying that, we only have 38 on the 2019 list. That leaves two extra spots we can still fill.

No, that fella didn't even get an invite to the Combine so he's pushing the proverbial up the hill.
Ah ok. Was it Matthews? Honestly can't remember

Who's desperate for points still?
Any chance we live trade again or will we play the hand we have?

I wonder if we might try and split our last 3rd round pick into a couple of later picks (4th rounders) so we can then look to bundle up a couple of picks to go higher in the draft. That extra 2020 2nd could become very valuable to teams wanting to accrue points for next year's nga and or father som players

That's us. We need the points next year.

What would our picks have gotten in the last few years?

4 will almost certainly have someone seriously good available if we can pick the right one
23 and 28 have a good chance of a first team player.
30 plus and it's unlikely

2018
4 - Max King (5 Connor Rozee)
23 - Jez McLennan (24 Bobby Hill)
28 - Xavier O'Neill
37 - Laitham Vandermeer
45 - Ben Cavarra
49 - Bailey Scott

Without having the time to follow clubs other than AFC and GWS very closely - there wasn't much after pick 24 other than Hamill and Sholl.

2017
4 - Luke Davies-Uniacke (6 Jaidyn Stephenson)
23 - Will Walker (24 Tim Kelly)
28 - Sam Taylor
37 - Harrison Petty (38 Jack Petrucelle)
45 - James Worpel
49 - Jordan Houlahan (57 Gryan Miers)

Picks 25+ look much more solid than in 2018.

2016
4 - Ben Ainsworth (6 Sam Petrevski-Seton)
23 - Alex Witherden
28 - Patrick Lipinski
37 - Josh Rotham (40 Tom Stewart)
45 - Jack Maibaum
49 - Lewis Young (52 Willie Rioli, 53 Jack Graham, 58 Matt de Boer)

2015
4 - Clayton Oliver
23 - David Cuningham (25 Josh Dunkley)
28 - Luke Partington
37 - Riley Bonner
45 - Aidyn Johnson
49 - Bailey Rice (58 Tom Phillips, 66 Sam Menegola)

Lots of chod in there with a little bit of quality here and there.

Agree with pretty much all of that. Would have a few ahead of Ainsworth, Sam Petreski-Seton, Oliver Florent, Harry Perryman at minimum.

5 players taken after each pick

Pick 4
2010 - Andrew Gaff, Jared Polec, Reece Conca, Josh Caddy, Dyson Heppell
2011 - Will Hoskin-Elliott, Matt Buntine, Chad Wingard, Nick Haynes, Billy Longer
2012 - Jimmy Toumpas, Jake Stringer, Jack Macrae, Ollie Wines, Sam Mayes
2013 - Marcus Bontempelli, Kade Kolodjashnij, Matt Scharenberg, James Aish, Christian Salem
2014 - Jarrod Pickett, Jordan De Goey, Caleb Marchbank, Paul Ahern, Peter Wright
2015 - Darcy Parish, Aaron Francis, Callum Ah Chee, Sam Weideman, Harry McKay
2016 - Ben Ainsworth, Sam Petrevski-Seton, Jack Scrimshaw, Griffin Logue, Will Brodie
2017 - Luke Davies-Uniacke, Adam Cerra, Jaidyn Stephenson, Hunter Clark, Nick Coffield
2018 - Max King, Connor Rozee, Ben King, Bailey Smith, Chayce Jones

Generally speaking there are excellent players available at pick 4. Two out of the five picks around that mark are typically very good to elite, with a further good player available. Players taken slightly later can also be very good, if not better, perhaps due to bad clubs often getting this pick. If your recruiting team aren't muppetts and you have good development, I'd say you'd be unlucky not to get something really high quality here.

Pick 23
2010 - Cam Guthrie, Jamie Cripps, Patrick Karnezis, Jack Darling, Kieran Harper
2011 - Murray Newman, Henry Schade, Seb Ross, Todd Elton, Sam Kerridge
2012 - Marco Paparone, Nathan Wright, Spencer White, James Stewart, Tim O'Brien
2013 - Matt Crouch, Billy Hartung, Daniel McStay, Zach Merrett, Sean Lemmens
2014 - Pat McKenna, Jack Steele, Daniel Nielson, Toby McLean, Lukas Webb
2015 - David Cunningham, Ben Keays, Josh Dunkley, Kieran Collins, Darcy Tucker
2016 - Alex Witherden, Cedric Cox, Ben Long, Brandan Parfitt, Zac Fisher
2017 - Will Walker, Tim Kelly, Noah Balta, Liam Ryan, Brent Daniels
2018 - Jez McLennan, Bobby Hill, James Rowebottom, Tom Sparrow, Xavier O'Neill

This is pick is trickier to find quality, however most drafts have one to two very good players available, with a role players also common. You can also expect 2-3 busts. One in every few drafts produces an elite player. Good recruiting makes this a valuable pick.

Pick 28
2010 - Ryan Lester, Scott Lycett, Jake Batchelor, Ariel Steinberg, Josh Greene
2011 - Fraser McInnes, Alex Forster, Elliot Yeo, Jackson Merrett, Joel Hamling
2012 - Tim O'Brien, Tom Clurey, Mason Shaw, Kamdyn McIntosh, Michael Close
2013 - Lewis Taylor, Rory Lobb, Trent Dumont, Malcolm Karpany, George Hewett
2014 - Dillon Viojo-Rainbow, Touk Miller, Brayden Maynard, Daniel Howe, Tom Lamb
2015 - Luke Partington, Alex Morgan, Mason Redman, Ryan Clarke, Brayden Sier
2016 - Patrick Lipinski, Shai Bolton, Sam McLarty, Josh Begley, Joe Atley
2017 - Sam Taylor, Charlie Spargo, Tom De Koning, Bayley Fritsch, Brayden Ainsworth
2018 - Too early to say

Not quite as good as pick 23, but a similar amount of busts. Every second draft has a very good player available, but lots of good to role players are also taken here. Drafts with noted poor depth (2015 for example) are crapshoots. At this point, you should get a best 22 role player with a chance for something more.

Pick 37
2010 - George Horlin-Smith, Luke Parker
2011 - Jack Newnes, Mitch Grigg
2012 - Ben Jacobs, Mason Wood
2013 - Alex Pearce, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Jake Kolodjashnij
2014 - James Rose, Alex Neal-Bullen, Jack Lonie
2015 - Riley Bonner, Rhys Mathieson
2016 - Sean Darcy, Josh Battle, Tom Stewart, Brennan Cox
2017 - Harrison Petty, Jack Petrucelle, Nathan Murphy

I've only listed players I recognize being on AFL lists still, so safe to say the rest are spuds. Only likely to have 2-3 AFL quality players at this point, most of which are average role players. Occasional very good player, but unlikely. Good recruiters will find a diamond here, but a depth player is most likely.

Pick 45
2010 - Alex Fasolo
2011 - Brendon Ah Chee, Jordan Murdoch
2012 - Tim Membrey, Dean Kent, Lachie Hunter
2013 - Riley Knight, Ben Brown
2014 - Bailey Dale, Caleb Daniel
2015 - Bailey Williams
2016 - Mitch Hannan, Harrison Macreadie, Darcy Cameron
2017 - James Worpel

Much more likely to get a spud at this stage of the draft, with only a 1/5 chance or thereabouts of a half decent player. If you do strike, generally they will be okay, with the occasional very good player. Quality recruiters will find something good with pick 45 once in every few attempts. I wouldn't be expecting much.

Pick 49
2010 - Tom McDonald
2011 -
2012 - Lachie Hunter, Martin Gleeson
2013 - Nick Holman, Darcy Byrne-Jones, Josh Walker
2014 - Marc Pittonet, Jackson Nelson, Oscar McDonald
2015 - Mitch Brown
2016 - Elliot Himmelberg, Willie Rioli, Jack Graham
2017 - Kane Farrell

At this point, don't expect to get quality, unless you get extremely lucky. 1/5 chance of a role player or depth type. Yes players like Lachie Neale and Orazio Fantasia can be found after pick 50, but that's like winning the lottery, it's just not common. You can expect this player won't make it at AFL level.

---

With our current draft haul, we're looking at an elite player, a very good player, a best 22 role player, a depth player, and two that won't make it

I'd say most would be pretty happy with that haul from this draft.

OK, does anyone have a 2 or even 3 round mock draft/player profile?

All of a sudden its looking imperative to know the players in the 20-40 range a bit better!
