There are a few worth having a conversation with IMO.

Coniglio
Ellis
Newnes
Lester
Elliott
Hill
Mundy
Bews
Tomlinson
Jones

Cunningham

These are the only 3 i'm interested in TBH.

We have decent depth now...guys like Kennedy, Deluca etc are doing a job. We have quite a lot missing right now.

Any recruits need to improve our starting 18 imo.
Guys like Ellis, Newnes, Cunningham could be useful, but i don't think they are even best 22 if we had no injuries...so not interested.

You've made a pretty spectacular assumption about me there...

I don't think we've signed him up on a lucrative long-term deal, so yeah, who we'd have taken instead is relevant. Pick 60+, or another DFA, they'd have been as good a chance if not more so of being a wasted list space. I'm just curious as to what you think we should have done instead of throwing a lifeline to a proven AFL small forward on the comeback trail from injury.

Not an assumption, just pointing out that your logic that we had to spend on a free agent is flawed.

The list spot could've been used on a mature ager, a high-upside draft pick or even something like Jarryd Lyons. Just because we have cap space doesn't mean we have to use it!

This is of course all moot if he got a cheap, 1-year deal as I've explained already.

I like what I see from Schumacher. Something to work with and keeps improving. Certainly worth another year. Goddard has been good this year. Unlucky with Broken jaw and today was tough for our defence. Again worth another year IMO.

With 3 weeks to go the ones that are borderline are Lobbe LeBois Garlett Fasolo Kerr Lang and maybe an older player.
IMO Goddard is like Nicky Graham.

Too good for VFL, just not good enough for AFL.

It's a tortured existence. Feel for him.

There are much better small and medium defenders sitting on other teams list that we could happily put on decent coin for 2 years if it's such a concern.

They're also a dime a dozen in the draft. We don't need more defensive bruisers, we need run and carry and players who are a bit more dynamic out of there, which would make for great cover for Simpson, Thomas and Williamson.

I've mentioned Francis Watson a few times as a solid example. Tom Murphy at North is another.

These guys tumble to the bottle of the draft most years for the most inexplicable reasons (usually a perception of low possession numbers and lack of midfield potential).

Schuy was a late pick and like any young developing player in a bottom 4 side, it takes time.

He is no better, nor worse than the players you mentioned

Nope. Really good this year. Played one quarter and broke his jaw and then thrown back in against best side.

Give him a chance. He is a very good key defender. Too many quick judgements on here. Similar to the comments that I previously read about Jones and Casboult and even Weitering. Only 22

Fair enough, not much risk in letting him get a few more opportunities. I'll defer to you on this one as although I've heard he's been a gun in the 2s, the only thing I've watched all year is his 1 and a quarter matches in the AFL team. I will say that I felt that even before the injury, he seemed a bit vulnerable defending.

When we have Weiters + Jones + Plowman I feel a lot safer.

His pace seemed to be lacking, which can be less of a hindrance in the 2's. Would you say that his pace is good enough for afl?

Did look it on the weekend but I think that's confidence and getting used to it. Really been running well and his ball use has been excellent at VFL level. Not easy when you are playing for your career

Unlikely to stay
It’s obvious Martin has talent but he is underwhelming at times and is wasting his talent.

I would be happy to give up a list spot for him based on a contract which was lucrative for high performance and as long as it did not involve costing any pick value before pick 30.
If not, he can stay there and waste his career.

Player rather than picks might be the better outcome for GCS

Goddard is a paradox. Speed at the combine almost elite. Saints supporters almost universally regarded him as too slow. Might be a perception issue: like Diesel Williams was never slow because footy brain so quick.

On Talking footy tonight, suggestion that dogs are hunting Tippa... Rumoured at $450k, and dopers may not be able to match due to tight cap.
Would love Tippa running around for us.

You’re kidding aren’t you?

Got more of the ball than 8 of his team mates, went at 76% disposal efficiency and earns himself a free. But I suppose giving away two free kicks is all you saw and is enough to banish him forever.

Pffft
The 2 holding the balls, got pushed off the ball another time across half back that resulted in a goal when he started with a 5 meter head start.

He’ll make a good suburban footballer somewhere, but he ain’t up to this level

According to this article, Martin seems as though he will stay at Suns.....

It says he's a stronger chance of staying than he was at the start of the season. That statement really doesn't mean much.

If he already requested a trade last year and hasn't signed an extension, he'll most likely do the same this year.

🙄 Bloody Hell. Let’s write off another young player after ONE game. FFS
