Thinking outside the box, would GC consider something like their pick 15 (or 20) this year and their mid-1st assistance pick next year (guaranteed pick 11, as I understand it) for St Kilda's pick 10 and, say, our future 3rd (or a future 2nd); we get 15 and a 2020 mid-1st, plus Acres, while St Kilda keep their 2020 1st. Or we take theirs and they get the GC mid-1st, either way.

I wouldn't be entirely thrilled with it, 15 puts us in a dangerous spot for Henry, but it seems potentially workable. No idea how GC would feel about it, and not particularly inclined to ask old mate meima.

Decent in theory but Dog would take Henry at 13 if Weightman is gone IMO so its too risky

Yep, and I don't think you get anything back if a bid is in the 1st round, so it would torch 15 with no later pick back. That's definitely the concern. If we could find another 2nd somewhere I'd be a little more comfortable.

Even if we get next year 2nd of dogs through Bruce (10+saints 2020 2nd+dogs 2020 2nd) it is better than 6+ 3rd rounder... Hope belly say to saints, "we will do the deal at 4.27 pm AEST....tommorrow...." means Saints has to finish all their other deals before ours...

Butler now nominated St Kilda so they will continue to squeeze us ....definately no 2020 1st on offer cause of the so called compromised draft ..
Dan Butler should have no impact on this trade, he'll get traded for a bag of half-eaten salt and vinegar chips.

so says Goddard
Can't wait til this time next year we're talking about a compromised draft in 2021 when only 1 NGA players go in the Top 10 and only 3 in the Top 30 next year

Seriously, if at the start of the period, you were told we would get 10, a future 2nd and Acres for Hill surely we'd all be happy?

We'll have up to 4 2nds to use to get higher in the draft this year...

I actually view Acres as negative value as a drain on the salary cap and list spots (to the point I regret saying anything bad about Aish now). Considering how little I cared for the original trade you could imagine how little I care for this one.

Ok pickup for Peel Thunder I guess...

We have (will) lost two top 22 players with nothing obvious to replace them with. Most likely we will have 2 picks inside 10 before we pick up Henry and 3 (including ours) 2nd next years rounders to play with. If we pick up a couple of solid best 22 players added to that haul it might be in our best interests for next year.

My 2 cents

That the deal hasn't been done says that there's a gap between what the saints are offering and what we are asking. I'm happy for it to go down to the wire as he's contracted and I'd prefer we keep Hilly

We don't know what was initially offered at the start

What we do know is that there is no way they'd have gotten the players they want in without using 6 to do it. 6 might have been floated when Hill was the only guy to nominate, the second others did, the saints were never going to be able to swing it

So everyone comparing an offer that nobody knows ever took place as being the benchmark of what is acceptable? And then getting overexcited when Ben King signed and earmarking their first round pick as being 'what we would accept' are getting a bit ahead of themselves

The signals from trade week that we are holding out for a good deal. That's a good sign. Bell in that respect is the judge of what the best deal on the table is, and we might take it last minute to assist hill get his move, and fans might be disappointed but I wouldn't go slamming Bell for doing his job of making the most of a Saint Kilda shit sandwich where they haven't had currency from the start

The rest is just media noise

I wouldn't be. 10 and future 2nd is equivalent to his value next year, and having Hill play for us is legitimately a better outcome. As much as fans value picks and youth above all else during draft and trade period, Hill can be the difference of making us competitive allowing our younger players and coach to develop and settle. Hill was the difference in a lot of our games.

I don't support the argument that 10 and future 2nd is better than 6 and future 3rd ergo Bell is justified in not accepting the first offer yet accepting the second. Because walking away and keeping Hill is better than either, hense the premature melting.
