Acres has numbers that mirror Darcy Tucker, both with the same contested possession rate & clanger rate.

Both have a 35% contested possession rate over the last two seasons (Fyfe over the same time is at 56%)

He looks depth and probably in the player bracket of 17-25th selected, at worst, so hopefully we can isolate him in a role that he's suited to that St Kilda have neglected.

"While the West Australian hadn't been seeking a move home, the Saints have reportedly told Acres he was unlikely to receive a contract extension beyond 2020 and would find it tough to crack into the senior line-up with Hill and Sydney speedster Zak Jones incoming.

...

He is a powerful athlete but his foot skills and decision-making can let him down on occasion"

For anyone that thinks he improves our best 22. He's considered fringe at the Saints. The Saints. I'd rather a pick than Acres
I don't trust the Saints evaluation of him, they played a spud like Armitage over him. Zak Jones is overrated, Sinclair is overrated, Lonie is a cupcake.

6ft isn't tall in footy terms.
The "little Master", Gazza is 6ft & Aish seems scrawny.
My point is I don't see him as an inside mid, but I could be wrong.
Six foot isn't tall, but it isn't small either. We are fortunate to have some giants in our team but the likes of Walters, Neale aren't at 6ft

If we wanted to compete this year (and we do) then bringing in players that can step right in needed to be done. They also needed to be relatively cheap.

Acres may be big bodied but he is not a contested ball winner ... which is why I believe he will be a waste of our time.
75 Career games and his highest Contested Possessions in a game is just 12. Blakely, Tucker, Brayshaw have better stats than that from less games (even Conca had 13 in a game in 2019).
As Scham said, he lacks intensity.

But if he ends up coming to Freo, then like so many others on our list, I'll be supportive and hope he improves enough to be a regular B22.
In fairness, David Mundy had 1 game where he had more than 12 contested possessions in his first 112 games. It depends on their role.

Richmond bought in Houli, Caddy, Griggs & Nankervis, all of whom were ok at their former club but excelled when given a consistent role at their new club. Good luck to him, I hope he has a great career with us.

One thing that I do see with Acres stats is his low Time On Ground percentage for 2019 ... not one single game with 80%+ TOG.
It was much higher in 2018 when he had a much better season ... with most of his better games 80%+.
I don't understand that stat. Did he have a poor pre-season and struggle in 2019?

My ideal scenario

We get 10 and whatever else falls our way in this STk trade

Draft night...

7
10
22

Throw deals at everyone after our pick 10 - hope one bites

Get that deal done before the Henry bid, pay overs

Let’s say 11-14
Henry Witt remaining points

That’s 5 x first rounders (4 and 1 very close one)

That’s our future

I believe Acres carried a groin injury for 2018 after a big preseason, they played him inside mid and liked it. But his body wasn't up to it with that injury and trying to play through it.

If his groin is good now, after potentially having it operated on, and a full preseason then he could play inside mid for us too.

They need a ruck...desperately...
They don't have anything high enough to make it worthwhile
What would you do if they offered say 14 & 17 for Darcy. Do we look at then swapping 14 & 17 with Carlton for 9 & 2020 R2 so they can get Jack Martin and Papley

I think i'd reject that offer.

I'd be asking them to go and get 9 for us and send that across with 17.
