REPORT: ACRES RELUCTANTLY AGREES TO JOIN FREMANTLE

Umm, welcome Blake Acres?

Should read, Acres has opportunity to extend his career!
Lol so we’re swapping someone who doesn’t want to be here for someone who doesn’t want to be here.

Or more likely, someone who wants to stay for someone who doesn’t want to come.

And vice versa for Stk.

I honestly think Colin Young isn’t that bad.

He isn’t afraid to look like a d*ckhead if it benefits his client. Players themselves when considering a manager probably only give two ****s about getting the best money/contracts they can. Colin Young for all he seems to piss us off seems to do that. That’s why players go with him - being the biggest player in WA market doesn’t hurt either.

I think Colin Young has been good this period. Hasn’t said a thing against our club or St Kilda when deep down he’d probably prefer to get this deal done a week ago.

So essentially, pick 10, second round next year, pick 58 and acres all for chris mayne....Would take that as a huge win
🙂

Plus the hundreds of thousands of dollars we've prepaid BHill

A few points I have been mulling over and share;

Re Acres; Jlo has seen a bit more of him than most perhaps in recent times. Probably the only reason to go with him as a seperate trade (and we don't have to re the deal) is we see him somehow fitting into our best 25.

Average Players; Whether it is footskills, being slow or other reasons imop some players will always become straight away better when a few or more very quality and skilful players use them in the play. Some average players can read the play well and get the ball but get caught because their slow or have poor skill disposal but with these types around then they are immediately better (eg potential turnovers overcome by skilful assistance).

The Who: Which players in the trade/draft most likely fit that on baller who gets the best out of players around him and turns ordinariness into quality ala dare I say it Kelly and Pickett Ablett type skills (Walters, Mundy, Fyfe). This years draft probable types that could develop into that type >Rowell, Serong, Flanders, Rivers, Henry, Taylor.

I hope Acres can develop into a Mundy type. Isn’t the fastest but can be a big bodied contested ball winning mid that can take a grab when drifting forward and can run all day.

Hopefully spending some time around some elite mids and playing one role in one position, he blossoms.

All i care about is players that can get the ball to where it needs to go after watching Langdon the butcher

yep, my main frustration at the footy the past few years was watching Langdon undo his ridiculous start of 13 touches in the 1st by shanking all of them.

Kicking is not his main weakness. It’s intensity.

Don’t disagree, just found the stats interesting

Aish is 6ft tall and has been playing against men since he was 16.
6ft isn't tall in footy terms.
The "little Master", Gazza is 6ft & Aish seems scrawny.
My point is I don't see him as an inside mid, but I could be wrong.

Acres may be big bodied but he is not a contested ball winner ... which is why I believe he will be a waste of our time.
75 Career games and his highest Contested Possessions in a game is just 12. Blakely, Tucker, Brayshaw have better stats than that from less games (even Conca had 13 in a game in 2019).
As Scham said, he lacks intensity.

But if he ends up coming to Freo, then like so many others on our list, I'll be supportive and hope he improves enough to be a regular B22.
