I think that your explanation would better demonstrate the benefit if you mentioned the current salary of those players. Some people might not know.Question, considering we are shedding huge levels of Salary Cap this year, could paying portions of Betts and Jenkins Salary in 2020 be a strategy to free up more cap space for targets in FA 2020?
I.e. There are 2 well known targets next season in FA (Grundy and Luko). Both will attract big money. So for arguments sake, by paying say $100K of Betts this year, and $200K of JJ’s, we could strategically use that money to help fill our 95% required salary cap this season on unlisted players.
Meaning the following year we automatically free up $300k without cutting or trading anyone to put on top of an already big Brodie Grundy offer.
From all reports in the media Betts is on $600k so if we move him on and agree to pay $100k towarsd what Carlton intend on paying him that saves us $500K. Like wise with Jenkins. If he is on $600K and we contribute $100K towards his salary we save another $500k of what we would have paid if we keep him. So thats like $1m in savings. Of course there will be salaries to pay any new player but if they come from the trade that wont be too big an impact.
