He played some good footy last year as a key back, and has done well on Brown more than once. Agree he's not a sure bet but established key defenders generally aren't available via trade unless it's for personal reasons (and thus a high cost), so you've got to try and find one another club doesn't necessarily value as highly.

I still don't think Shaw makes those comments without an indication he wants to come.

IMO, he's most likely to end up getting pressed in to the Fantasia trade.

I think Howard's quality falls somewhere between "fringe development" and potential gun, but there's no doubt we have huge question marks over our KPD stocks and he played some very good footy there last year. 27 and maybe a later swap of picks in Port's favour is fair, otherwise move on.

He's played well on Brown several times too which I suspect is why we're interested.

Did captain the team at one stage. Clearly thought of highly and above fringe development ie/ must be ahead of Durds. I think it’s good to get him to the club See how guys like Durdin and McKay respond. Can’t help but thinking having listened to McKay’s 2018 end of season interview he kind of just expected everything to happen for him this year and was frustrated at not playing afl I’m 2018. Well now that Thompson’s retired and Maj has a hamstring setback, time for him to put his hand up. Let’s see just he goes if Dougal arrives.

If we get Howard, we need to swing McKay forward. I don’t like swinging kpp players back and forth (still having nightmares from lachie), but I can’t see how he will get a look in over the next couple of years with Tarrant, Durdin, Howard?, Daw and EVW in front of him.
I wouldn’t be against it even if we don’t get Howard. No guarantees Larkey won’t need a spell and he would also be next in line if Brown or Larkey were to get injured.
Give him a full pre-season up forward and play him in all of the nab games.

Cue is in the trade rack I suspect, unless something comes out of the blue.

It's a good year to be the quiet bloke in the room. Let clubs come to us.

We only have 4 spots to fill anyway.
Maybe people should stop worrying about the 2 rate forward and 3 rate back man that are available. Trust our current list forward and back. Our immediate need is another decent ruckman and maybe a hard-nosed mid that can get the ball.

I am soooooo over the crumbs we are fighting over with Aints and Carltank.

I can’t work out whether people are genuinely not getting it or are wackily adding to it and I’m not getting them... I think... anyway carry on with it

Ha yeah, could get extremely messy, although the gist of the thread does lend it'self to that. I am though super impressed that it was noticed and Orange Peanut lead the charge.

Hey, I am right on board with that.

Quality small forward/outside mid/project ruckman.

That's all I reckon we should look at. If we can't land one then we don't compromise, we go to the draft.

If clubs want to run at us with quality unders because they're busting their arse to get trades done, then we look at each deal on it's merits.

Just wondering what people in here think Wood's trade value is worth compared to Howards?

Good question was wondering that myself. I think Wood is more talented but older, bad run with injury etc. still think his best footy is ahead of him. He is going to have games he wins off his own boot and looks a superstar. Question is and always has been can he do it consistently with a good run without injury? I think he can but with Brown and Larkey, he is more likely to do it elsewhere than at North. Dougal is younger, fills a need and I think is more valuable to us than wood is. That said I’d much prefer to keep Mase as I know he’ll tear some games apart and want him to do it in our jumper. I think they’re pretty much even value but as Howard fills a need, think we’d do a straight swap in a heart beat. You would assume poet would have interest in Wood considering they were trying to turn Howard into a forward!

Hope that's true. Some very ordinary players are talked up big in Trade week and Wood has shown as much, and more, of most of them. A new Coach may be the makings of him.
You’d hope so BUT the new coach was the first out shopping him! Let’s hope for a clear injury free run for Mase

We missed out to the ******* Saints! I’m just about done with trade periods

You have to base it on the specifics, not rejection.

What are StKilda forking over?
