OUCH!!! St Kilda is understood to have offered Howard a five-season deal on a salary of between $500,000-$600,000, with the 23-year-old having nominated the Saints on Wednesday.

Jesus if those numbers are right....

Guarantee we walked away if that’s the case, no way he is worth that much. Crazy.

Was that a loss or a gain? Not specifically referring to Tyson but we got in Tom Campbell who won "Best Clubman" (which is a trophy i value as much as any if its voted on by your teammates,) and seems to have made a difference to the morale level around the place.
Maybe it's just me but I do think awards like "best clubman" are a bit tokenistic. Like, "hey you weren't good enough to play seniors, but here's a consolation prize".

Not saying he's not a good bloke and hasn't had a positive impact on the club, but you rarely see players who play most senior games win those awards.

Polec, Pittard and Hall if he gets his shit together are all in the mix for the best side. (I think we need a best 30 of players at similar level. 22 isn't enough - you need depth and pressure on spots.) The new B Scott, TT and even Curtis Taylor also all have the potential to push into that group this season. That's a much better end of season than the Aints are looking at now.
That's a speculative call given Hall, Scott and Taylor haven't produced much to date to suggest we traded/drafted correctly. And yes I'm aware that Hall didn't cost us much and Scott won the RS nom before getting injured.

You can in small and bush clubs. Usually its someone who trains their arse off, does everything they can and plays their guts out but isn't very good. Good enough to play firsts but thats about it.

And in Campbell's case its on top of being better than the guy he replaced anyway.

If gws do nothing, 12 & 18 will go in a Green bid so they lose them anyway. At the very least this would give them a pick plus Green, maybe at the cost of some fringe list spots if they need to carry too many low picks to cover the points. Don’t think they have anything of value leaving this year.

We wouldn’t be able to do that trade with 8 before the draft because there’s a good chance GWS would have to use it on a bid. Our best chance would be to hope it comes up as a live trading option during the draft. I’d rather see us trying to trade up to Adelaide's 4 but with their exodus they might not need picks as badly by the end of trade week as they do now.
Saints just pulled it off with 6, which is worse than the 4 that the Crows had. 8 is close enough to 6.

Pretty sure Scooter and Spud have more than a couple under their belt between them, and they were consistently best 22 most of their career. Hell, wasn't it Waitey that gone one in his last or second last year? Hardly a fringe player.

Says a lot about Campbell that he won it, and iirc there were some glowing posts in his thread when he resigned where ITK people were saying he knew he wasn't that likely to make it as a star at AFL level but was more than happy to help bring the likes of Xerri up to the level and put their career in front of his even when it came to VFL.

Polec, Pittard and Hall all were best 22 for us straight away, with Tyson as backup. And we didn’t lose any best 22 players to get there, as Saints will be doing.
I'm not convinced that Hall is best 22. He only played a total of 6 games this year, and we know the challenges he has at the moment.

Tony Sheahan just stated on SEN that North have made enquiries to Jordan De Goey’s management about a switch to us on a 7 year deal and De Goey’s open to it as Collingwood’s TPP is stretched to its limit.

Interesting.

Is this just a Collingwood psyop to give the appearance that they are struggling with the salary cap, when anyone with three functioning brain cells knows they don't have one?

North Melbourne make $6.3m offer for Jordan De Goey

North Melbourne have made an aggressive $6.3 million offer for Collingwood midfielder Jordan De Goey.

The starting offer is for $900,000 a year for seven years for the young out-of-contract Pies star.

St Kilda have also made an offer close to North’s position.

It is believed that De Goey is currently on $750,00 a year with a deal expiring next year.

It is uncertain how North would complete a trade for De Goey, who is not a free agent.

The Roos have access to their first-round draft pick and their second-round will slide back in the order.

Thus North has the option of trading this years picks or future picks for De Goey. Satisfying Collingwood with a trade would appear difficult.

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley said after that he thought the discussions were all part of the theatre of football.

“Let’s be transparent with this: a couple of weeks ago, Jordy said, ‘I love Collingwood, I want to stay at Collingwood’, so the manager needs to come out and say the ‘godfather’ thing just to have a bit of leverage,” Buckley said on Channel Seven.

“Now that’s all part of the fun and games. Jordy’s been first-class. He’s wedded to the playing group, and the leaders, in particular, have stepped him through the last few years of his career – they have really helped him on and off the field.

“There’s a really tight bond between him and the playing group.”

It is unknown if the player favours a long- or short-term deal.

Starting offer?

$900K is overs already.

This is the level of desperation we have now fallen to - Tony Sheahan and the rehashing of past failed attempts.

Huh?

17 other clubs in the comp would throw a monster deal at him if they could.

Not on topic, but I reckon this about him

Less speculative a call than the St Kilda trade dept this year.

imo anyway.

Before his issues Hall was leading our tackle count and is still third for average tackles. That's his best ever tackling performance too. So he came to us and brought into what we're about a bit considering his reputation as a soft player. I think he has room for improvement but is probably up to it. We seem to get the best out of players like him, who have shown a bit but not shown their full potential at other clubs. (That could have been down to Brad scott tho. )

Re: De Goey

Well the Dwarves won't be doing anything. They have way too much they need to use for even getting the players they have supposedly coming in.

I'm not sure what's funnier;
That the Saints have made a similar offer when they have no picks and no cap left.
Or us having another crack only for everyone to laugh at us again when it doesn't happen
