I was just told Acres was informed at his exit meeting, the club wouldn't hold him back from testing the water outside.

Maybe someone with more ITK can shed a bit of light on this, but it sounds to be on the money after the last 24hours.

If so it shouldnt come as a shock to Blake to be traded, then again it is late in the trade period and it may have rattled his cage a little.

On Bruce being traded

Personally thought it was fine until the BING chase was a no go. Listening to Lethers last night it seems he is locked in on Marshall and Ryder swinging forward in rotation.

Are they enough though to cover a 35-50 goal a year forward? Listening to Port supporters Ryder isn't much good up forward apparently.

From another angle will Jones output be an upgrade on Bruces remembering at the end of the day the aim is to kick more goals then the opposition.

Surely we have options to send players to Sydney to appease them for Jones.

It's fine as well to say well Bruce wants to go to the dogs now but from accounts he wanted to stay until we pushed him out.
Let's be honest he's not a 35-50 goal a year forward, he hasn't kicked 50 since 2015 his highest since then is 38. He's a 35-38 goal forward. He's very cover-able in that regard.

Like Beams,Ablett jr and Betts sometimes there is a joyous homecoming.

With a resting ruckman, and Winx in our forward line we’re tall enough. The ability to swing Battle, Howard or even Carlisle (cringe) forward means that with Bruce we are too tall.
Granted some
Forward depth would be nice, Bruce too talented to be running around at Sandringham until there’s an injury or someone needs a spell.
Sell high (even if it’s not as high as we’d like)

A counter arguement to that would be he's battled back injuries. Been the sole tall forward being double teamed frequently. Our delivery sky bombing it in hasn't helped either. He still has it in him to kick 50 imo.

As someone who has just taken up gardening, i can see similarities with developing players.

You plant 3 or 4 seedlings in a punnet together; one takes off like a rocket, two of them are middling and one never sprouts. The next step for the gardener is to pull out the middling plants, so that the strong seedling can get all the nutrients and light without competition, so it has the best possible chance of success. Sometimes choosing the strongest plant isn't always easy, but removing middling seedlings is more important than selecting the strongest.

Look at Marshall this year. He was only able to step up with the opportunity he had. I think the club is taking that to heart.

Interesting analogy...

Never been the sole tall forward. He's always had Membrey and at times has also had, McCartin, Riewoldt, Marshall and Battle.

Well he was offered up to Freo in the first round of negotiations so I think we're not really fussed with him going.
Acres is as frustrating as they come, but honestly I dont see him ever becoming a really good player. He's never taken the next step and done it over a solid few weeks, its literally been half a game here or half a game there.

really?

Membreys not a tall which is why i excluded him.
Yes

Membrey plays as a key forward. It doesn't matter how tall he is. That's why key defenders line up on him every week.

He has similar contested marks, marks inside 50's and goals to Jack Riewoldt and Tex Walker.

From the previous thread answering to triggering bro.

Tend to disagree.
Hill outstanding outside runner
Jones outside mid that will compliment our inside players
Howard, listen to the Port supporters and Port media like Russell and Cornes. Essendon and North were extremely keen.
Butler is anything but fringe. Exactly what we need.
Ryder was steak knives and insurance

I think anyone complaining about what we have done this TP will never be pleased in my opinion.
Personally, I would like to see finals again and we weren't doing that unless we changed the list.
Pretty spot on imo Joff

Exciting times

When we had Armitage and Steven playing at their career best in the midfield , along with Reiwoldt and Membrey in the forward line, Bruce kicked 50.
I'm always stunned when people don't see how hard Josh works to create something.

Would happily delist Newnes and also Dmac and pay out his stupid contract extension before letting Acres walk. He'll you can throw in another 10 names from our current list.

I think Bruce and Blake were told they might be traded and given visions of bleak futures to push them. We wanted to be able to pull out of the deals but the wheels were already in motion. Good clubs have depth and both would have been better than the return we will get for either.

The club seems to be going very money ball with lots of players we chased "statistically" underrated. It looks like we used that Hawks stats guy to target players. I can't see us having a massive improvement next year because for everything we have brought in we seem to have lost something too. Hopefully everything goes right though. We look to be focussing 4 years down the track though.

That’s because we’ve see how many times he’s dropped the elementary or missed the unmissable

I’m loving this ruthless St Kilda. We have been waiting so long to see it and not leaving any stone unturned.

Trading out Bruce and Acres will be a massive wake up call for the rest of the group that you aren’t here just to earn a pay cheque.

We are here to win premierships and we will explore every matter to help us push towards this.

8 years with no finals, I just can’t see how anybody can be upset with a player who has been in the system 6 years now with very little substance to show for it.

It's a sad day for this board, the end of an era. First we lost freezer, and now Blake, our 2 cult heroes, both gone, talents unfulfilled.

Worst part of all this, is losing him to a bunch of nincompoops at Freo who don't appreciate how good a player he could be. For months they've hurled insults and mocked our high rating of him. Just thinking of them cheering on our goat is enough to make me sick. It kinda feels like we've lost custody of our son and he'll be raised by simpletons half a world away. While i understand the reasoning for letting him go, it doesn't make it any less sad.

Farewell goat, its been a fun ride.

Quite miffed at how easily Bruce is discarded by us as a whole. I agree with you.
