Vic clubs benefit from having the game in Melbourne?
Didn't seem to bother West Coast last year, or the Swans in 2012.

If you want to flip it around the other way, have a look at the enormous advantage non-Victorian clubs get in the home and away season. Playing in stadiums that are almost exclusively barracking for the home team. Teams like mine do not enjoy that sort of advantage throughout the year. This Vic bias is a load of BS.
We might play 1/2 our games like that - but the other half are played with games almost exclusively barracking against us.

Happy enough with Essendon first up.

Perhaps the worst possible start for Melbourne though. After an awful 2019 season getting the toughest road trip first up in 2020.

While I'm on board with seeing West Coast belting them I'm not so sure.

1. Melbourne were in both the games they played against West Coast this year.

2. West Coast don't have a great R1 record if I recall.

3. Melbourne will be coming off a longer break.

I reckon it will be close, wouldn't say an easy win.
When was the last time North won a Rnd1 game. Last year the North board spent all summer trolling our board about how they were going to win first up.

Somehow they let a Ross Lyon coached team kick 140+ points. Saints should go in as heavy favourites.

And according to The Age, a stand-alone game on Saturday.

Doesn’t make sense, when are the other games to be played? One on Thursday, Rich/Melb on Friday night still leaves 6 other games to be played on Sunday. Can’t be right, surely.

Yeah, that Age article looks to be garbage.

Due to a scheduled bumper day of football, the later bounce will ensure clean air around other matches and finish around 7pm local time.

Melbourne now have Ed Langdon kicking inside 50. It's going to be even harder for them to win now.

Good. Only team I want to play that fixture against.

Can we bin Carlton - Richmond openers ffs? It's been a shit way to start the season for years. Literally any other fixture please.
I’d rather watch a shit game to open the season when there’s other options to entertain ones self then watch a shit game on Good Friday when there’s nothing to do with everything shut

I think they mean a stand alone timeslot e.g no games overlapping

Probably what the AFL said and then Michael Gleeson in The Age misinterpreted it. In his article he definitely means only game on Saturday.
