What's the opinion on this pick swap we did with the pies?

We swap a couple of 40's for a couple of 60s plus a next year second. So basically pushing a late 40's pick to next year and breaking the other into 2 60's?

We weren't planning on using those 2 40's picks? Or the 60's picks were better for bid matching?

I guess I'm asking "Did we do good here?"
I guess we'll know after how the Pies finish up their 2021 campaign and who we get with that 2nd rounder

It really is something not too many of us are mentioning. The fact that we added a 2021 2nd rounder is awesome. Really well played by Wrighty and Co last night 👏
Collingwood's wasnt it?

They gave that first rounder away for bargain basement price. Could end up being pick 10 for a couple of second rounders.

Can someone tell me where this “pick 20” next year from Collingwood is coming from! Or is it just there second rounder next year and we are hoping it’s pick 20.
just a 2nd rounder but after the way the wheels fell of the pies late this year we can only hope

It was Collingwood's but it will likely fall in the 20s somewhere. Our 2 x 2nd rounders in next years draft will allow us to get some quality kids that fall outside the top 10. We have a decent hand already.

I don't blow my own trumpet very often (LOL) but I did call it early in the piece that North would go the safe option with Phillips. He's obviously a very good safe option but I just always thought that they wouldn't have the balls to risk anything outside of a sure thing and if any kid in the draft is that then its Phillips. Worth noting that they did pretty bloody awesome with their haul.

I think this is important. Did we roll any of the youngsters through the middle this year? We would regularly put Bruest/Poppy/Cyril into centre square for something different.

That's what I'm thinking with these two, Brockman in particular. When I read his draft profile all I could think was I hope we get someone like this guy.

Those different looks we rolled in there when we were too one paced towards then end of the Golden period, and with Rioli pretty much from early on, were vital to us.

Matt Rendell rated Downie at 14 and thinks he could play round 1.
Real bonus to get 2 picks before him.

He's going to be borderline massive as an endurance runner even at this stage of his career.

I hope he plays like he's top 15 though.

All things going perfectly (though I realise they never do) we have a shot at picking up some solid puzzle pieces for our next tilt at silverware.

Along those lines, I would like to give myself a “Luke Darcy”

I predicted that if we did not take Perkins,Holland’s,Cox,Bruhn, we would take DGB. :thumbsu:

What I like from this draft haul is that we actually drafted players with elite attributes.

DGB with his marking and ability to play on all types of forwards.

Downie with his speed and kicking (and thighs).

Brockman and Mitchell with their speed, agility and creativity.

I feel like the last 5 years of drafting we have tended to go for players who are perhaps jack of all trades yet masters of none.

Players like Morrison who is a competent footballer but without any standout traits as a player. I am not having a crack at Harry but you get my point, what are his weapons as a player?

For me to make it in the AFL these days you need to have that one point of difference to build your game around (a bit like being drafted in the NBA). Otherwise you are probably just a really good VFL / SANFL / WAFL player.
