This is not a year to spend watching the draft. We will likely have our first live pick somewhere in the 50s after matching on Jones around #10 and Schofield around #40.

The issue is how many free hits do we give Parker to find an overlooked gem in the range#50-#75? My guess is 3. Despite his recent form at the top of the tree, he has been fantastic in general getting golden nuggets lower down the pecking order. This year, with no exposed form from Victoria, the chance of someone he rates going undrafted to #50 is higher than usual.
Let us hope Cripps has been doing his homework

He seems to love picking kids based on underage form too.

I’d give Parker 3 late, speculative picks because almost everyone on our list today and Jones who will join in December, is ready to play AFL. Hayes will be ready in 2021, Bergman, Mead, Williams and maybe even T. Burgoyne will be ready for some action in 2021. Even Patmore and Fredericks (if they remain on the list) will be as ready as they will ever be to debut in 2021.

So Schofield plus the late picks we take will have the luxury of developing in the SANFL in 2021.

It is proven that Parker pays more attention to bottom agers than other recruiters. His chances of jagging another late gem like DBJ at #52, Amon at #68, Howard at #56, Garner at #60, Woodcock at #76 and Ladhams, Pasini and Jonas as rookies is far greater in 2020 because he spent more time watching thé bottom agers play in 2019.

Parker is one of our trump cards. In a year where other recruiters won’t have the intel we do, make the most of it.

Zach Reid looks a gun and a perfect fit for us. I’m not sold he could be an interceptor but has a frame that looks like he could bulk up. We would have to give a fair bit to get him.

Where do we see Brodie Lake fitting in the draft? Worth a shot at Port?

What about next year’s draft suggests it’s going to be stronger than this years?

We would have to trade Ollie and give up Jones to get the pick for Zach. Any other year when we had a top 10 pick laying around he’d be ideal.

We are no chance of getting Reid at the moment

Lake can be automatically selected by Gold Coast so I doubt he'll be available

Actually seeing half the kids play will make it stronger on paper. Just as impressive talls next year as well as better midfield depth

If I’m not mistaken, with the bidding system, I think we can take Jones regardless. Unless you mean we would have to not match a bid, to keep a pick for Reid?

Do you think that Lake goes high enough for the Gold Coast to bother with him? I assumed with trades and other, more highly rated options, they may not pre-list him? So maybe available around the 40 mark for us?

The performances of the underagers this year

You’ve seen a lot more than me so I’ll take your opinion. Do you think had this years crop played you might think differently? Feels like with Jase a possible first rounder next year, trading out 2021’s first rounder to nab Reid or Cox would be worthwhile.

Who are your stand outs for next year?

I don't think it matters where he may go, they can still pre-list him. As it stands though I think he's a top 30 pick in an open draft.

Trading out next years first would certainly be an option.

Its the great unknown but next year does look very good.

Horne, Sonsie, Chesser, Murley, Sinn, Rachele, Burgoyne, Wanganeen, Draper, Beecken, Motlop, Morris, Bazzo.

I think overall the quality next year is slightly ahead of this year, add in the fact you'll have a bunch of 18/19yo Vics who missed out on getting drafted this year as there were no games.

I could only find 9:

Top 15
Ugle-Hagan WB
Braeden Campbell Swans
Jones Power
McInnes Pies

16-30
Gulden Swans
Brandon Walker Dockers
Western Freo
Downie Hawks
Alex Davies Suns
I can’t say exactly who he’s referring to, and whether I agree with him but further to your list

lake
Jefferies
brand
Eyres
Schofield
Borlase
Edwards
newchurch
Raak

I haven’t seen enough football this year to have a top 30 but Joel Jeffrey would sit very comfortably in that group of I had.

If Jeffrey was available he would be one of those guys that every single board on bigfooty would be hoping their club drafted.

I’m going to say this again - Port Adelaide is not going to use late picks on a poor draft. You are locking yourself into keeping kids on your list for two years due to the standard two year contract while you are forced to get rid of players you might actually rate.

It’s why we only gave Lienert and Woodcock one year deals. You need the flexibility with contracts.

Start thinking less about us being a basket case, where we were drafting five players at the back end of the draft because we were delisting so many players, and start thinking like a premiership contender where our list is actually around the mark to win a flag.

I hope we draft some vic kids late in the draft and rookie draft. Its a great chance to draft with your instinct and homework without exposed form. I'd love for port to jag a hidden gem late in the draft. It would make a good story.
