According to draftguru the crows have 31 players + 3 rookies = 34 on their list after starting with 44 then 10 players leaving so far since end of the season. See;
2020 list summary https://www.draftguru.com.au/lists/2020

So if they don't cut any rookies they can have between 36 and 38 on their main list and add 1 more cat A rookie.

They have picks 1, 9, 22, 23, 40, 56 and 66. So they have to draft at least 4 players + Hately in the PSD for free to get to 36 on the main list.

If Port try to pick up Borlase with say pick 73 we got from Essendon in the Fantasia trade, which will probably turn into about pick 58 and matching bid picks are eliminated, they will match us even though they might pass on picks 40, 56 and 66 which might become 37, 45 and 54 or they could even trade them out for picks next year.

If Port were to bid for Borlase at say pick 58 they will match and pick 58 is a free hit as pick 58 is 170 pts which is less than the 197 pts discount on matching bids after pick 18.

If Port (or others) don't bid he could go onto their rookie list as their 4th rookie player.

Supposedly GWS are pissed off about Hately getting to the PSD and a free hit to Adelaide that they will make them match bids on their NGA and F-S players.

I know they have plenty of picks and room to match, I was hanging a slim hope on them really meaning they would only use 4 picks.

But then y'know believing the crows ... no, nothing happened on that camp. We sat in a circle singing kumbaya🤣

Still, won't hurt to test them.😉

I really enjoyed the article about Sydney wanting changes to the bidding system for academy players. Because Sydney have a massive academy area they believe that anytime any other team bids on one of their players that their next pick should be magically upgraded to reflect the value of the player they choose not to match. So if Braeden Campbell gets a bid at 5 and they chose not to match at 20 something... then because they have been so harshly treated, pick 20something should become pick 6 for reasons. Sounds fair and makes sense. Sydney have raised this valid issue with the afl but apparently it hasn't had a lot of traction yet.

So trade out first 3 rounds and match pick 1 with pick 72????

I just consider us blessed and very shrewd to be able to select Jones, after snaring Georgiades with the extra first rounder we traded in last year.

I'd love to be able to pick up an extra gold nugget - either a genuine slider or someone with little exposed form but lots of upside - with a late pick and/or rookie pick, along with Schofield.

A good midfield prospect or tall, marking forward would be fantastic.

Clubs would be stupid not to bid on him if they rate him at their pick. I would be disgusted in the club if we weren’t bidding on players who we rate at that pick just to do another club a favour

Don't think he knows what hes talking about to be honest. Probably why ESPN is paying him. Good at hitting a word count but doesn't say much.

Bishop used to be really good, think he might be working with a club now though.
His love affair with jack lukosius and this theory of tall forwards playing on the wing is starting to get a bit much thats for sure. Love the commitment and some of the general info i gather but i wouldnt be hiring him as my recruiter.

Who cares. We're still getting a top 10 kid without a top 10 pick.

Coming out of this year's offseason with Jones, Aliir and Fantasia without having lost a single first round pick is a huge credit to our recruiters.

Having used our future 2nd on Aliir and donating our future 3rd on Orazio does leave us with a piss poor hand for next year which is supposed to be a far better draft tho.

Depends where Jase Burgoyne lands next year. If he looks likely to be bid on after our first rounder, then getting a first round pick plus Burgoyne next year is another good draft haul, even if we might have to trade out a few fringe types to get the late picks to bid on Burgoyne with.

Do those draft guru numbers include players in?

So for Port we have 34 senior listed and 3 rookies and one cat B.

We need a minimum of 2 senior listed players to reach 36, and one other senior or rookie listed to reach 37.

If it goes well;
- Jones matched bid
- two picks (maybe Holmes, Rosman and/or Sharp - athletes with potential)
- Schofield slips through to cat B (does this rule still exist?)
- one or two rookie picks (maybe Ollie Lord or DFA)

Firstly click on the links to check for yourself. If you see Aliir and Fantasia on our list them you know he is up-to-date for all clubs.

Secondly you can have between 36 to 38 on your main list but with rookies you have to have a minimum of 37 and maximum of 44 on a list for 2021. You don't have to have 37 on the main list.

Thirdly why do think a normal footballer playing Under 18s football can go onto the Cat B rookie list. Can Lachie Jones go onto a Cat B list? No they are for international players and converts from other sport who haven't been registered to play in a league affiliated with the the AFL for 3 years, ie all metro, country leagues etc have to be affiliated with their state league who are affiliated with the AFL.

If father son players are unselected in the main draft, they can be automatically listed in the rookie draft by their aligned club - like we did with Trent Burgoyne last year.

If NGA players are unselected in the main draft, they can be automatically listed as Cat B rookies by their aligned club - like we did with Frederick.

I assume that is where the confusion is coming from.

I heard that. I have no idea how he managed to say it with a straight face.

Thanks my bad I forgot about that because there's 1 or 2 clubs who have just rookie listed their NGA player in their list of 44 and didn't call them a Cat B rookie.

Our first live pick will be late in the draft, after securing Jones and (maybe) Schofield.

We will have our pick at the spot where you look to fill needs. If you look at our under 25 players, there aren’t too many areas we are deficient in except:

1. Key backs- our only under 25 is Pasini
2. Key forwards- we have Marshall and Georgiades. But I see Georgiades and Marshall playing as high tall forwards- like Brad Ebert only better. A deep tall forward like Dixon would be a great get.

The only other area of need is a Fantasia type forward down the track. T.Burgoyne and Woodcock could fill this role but if Corey Durdin or better was available, we should pounce.

If there is nothing really tasty when our live pick comes, we should wait until the mid year signing windows.

I don't think key back is something we need to worry about now. Aliir Aliir, Clurey and Lienert are all 26 also.
