I'm very fearful that a bid will come on Newchurch in the top 20. Will ruin a lot of plans
I'm yet to see anyone actually put their name to Newchurch as a top 20 player in any kind of draft order. He's flashy quality, but he's not top five or six out of SA, and there's at least half a dozen WA players who'll go before him and maybe a couple of Tasmanians and two or three Queenslanders and New South Welshman. He's barely top 20, before you even consider who will be coming out of Vic, and there's have to be a dozen players at least from there before Newchurch.

Any risk of draft not being held this year? I have a mate who reckons this is highly likely given the draftees haven’t been playing and the list sizes will be reduced. Admittedly he is a pear supporter so don’t trust him
They’ll hold a draft.. it just might not be till mid december or even January..

to be honest.. i dont know why they dont just hold it behind closed doors a couple of weeks after trade week. Its not like they are gonna be able to do it infront of a live audience with all the potential top 10 players and their families there like previous years..

they can still televise it.. have footage of the kids in their livingrooms etc and clubs in their rooms... just no live audience..

and they can do ot before the end of school term before exams..

then the pressure is off the young lads for exams.. they know they have been drafted and where theyre going.. and do it all in the one night ffs none of this top 20 one night and the rest the next day bullshit.. thats is just dragging it out for the fox morons tv ratings.

There's been some talk here about taking Thilthorpe and McDonald with our first two picks. McDonald's rise is making things interesting.

From left field, if the club rated those two above McAsey or after a year they feel McAsey is a risk of heading home, would a team be interested in him?

In this scenario we would have taken probably the best two available talls with picks 2 and 3 (assuming Bulldogs have pick 1), if a Victorian team was looking for a tall, Fish might be a pretty good option.

I think my preference is to keep him.

How do points deficits work when picks are traded? For example, Freo currently has pick 2 and a 265 point deficit which would drop their pick 2 to pick pick 3 (I think). So if a team struck a trade of picks with Freo, would they be trading in pick 2 and Freos points deficit is passed on to their next selection, currently 23 dropping that to 34? Or would the club be trading in Freos pick post points deduction, trading in pick 3?
I gather the picks will be reset for the points deficit once the season is complete, so the 1st picks for Freo, GWS & Port will all slide down.

briztoon you have any thoughts on 2021 early prospects to give us hope 😂
I’ve found some above

Looks like Collingwood get a steal in Daicos!
Look at the three SA lads, plus Sinn, Rachelle and Sonsie.

Honestly, I’d be concentrating on the two SA mids if it was possible.

I do believe it’s important to prioritise home grown kids where possible, provided they are close to equal in talent as the interstate prospects thereabouts.

If you had a priority pick, I’d be going Josh Sinn and Horne.

I’d also be asking Mutineer his opinion, as he will have a much better grasp of next years kids, than me.

Both McDonald and Thilthorpe are forwards, Fish will ultimately be a defender and I have no doubt a damn good one. Back ourselves in to keep him. Would have our Key positions locked up for a decade

Yeah, I'd expect that to be the case, otherwise Freo would be able to trade a high-value pick that they never had.

Say (in a different universe) they had pick 1, but had to be downgraded to 2. The team that then really had pick one of would then drop to 2 if Freo traded pick 2 that then turned into 1.

I like seeing Isaiah Dudley in there.

Hope we walk away with Horne as well as him. Surely a bottom three finish brings some quality.

I'm starting to lean towards grabbing key forwards if we get pick one and two. Just lock that down.

If we're looking at mids I really hope we're taking good hard looks at the WA lads. (At least they are playing this season too)

WA seem to hide their good players quite well and West Coast and Freo have benefited from this for years.

O'Driscoll is certainly one to watch.

Depends a bit one what's coming up over the next couple of drafts, but if we grab 2 KPFs this year, we had better hope some mids are are at the pointy end next year.

Fog, McAsey, Doedee, Thilthorpe and McDonald should seet us up pretty well.

We'd then need another 2 or 3 top 5 mids and another couple of first rd mids as well.

What's wrong with Fogarty for us to prioritise taking 2 forwards?

Surely we take Tilthorpe & quality midfielders.

KPP with 1 and 2 and best Mid available at 9(Hollands could slide with his ACL)

Borlase will end up being a Full Back I think There is definitely a spot on our list for him.

Why do we need 2 more key position players as a priority over our midfield?

Surely we don't take all KPPs with our early picks this year. Would be madness given the state of the midfield

Cant we lock in Horne now? I mean is there any possibility at all that any other club will beat us to pick 1, 2021?

I think we can afford to spend our first two picks on KPPs. They take longer to develop and we have time, no other club in the AFL has as much time as we do.

Given our situation there is no player on our list that we should be putting more games into than Poholke. Sure, he is only a B-grader but he is good enough for a rebuilding team. He should play the next 100 games and be the hard body in our next 4 seasons of midfielders.

Now is the perfect time to get KPPs if you think our rebuild is going to take 5 years. If you honestly think that that is way too pessimistic and we are really looking at 2 or 3 years then sure, let’s focus on mids only.

Yes, there is plenty of possibility, any of the current bottom 6 could bottom out harder than us next season.

If that’s the case then absolutely we should get mids while we can. But I don’t agree with that, we will be bottom or thereabouts for some time.

I was saying we would have pick 1 this year, last season while people were still arguing with Marty that we might even make finals. I was absolutely sure we would be bottom 3. I had us as the worst team this season, but due to home games at AO I wasn’t sure we wouldnt avoid the spoon. In my opinion we were the worst team in the AFL for the last half of 2019 as well. Our fall off the cliff was astounding.

It turns out that we are even worse than I thought. Nicks is even worse than I thought. Our problems in the midfield and at the selection table ran even deeper than Campo. Our fitness problems ran even deeper than Burton.

I could be wrong. But I’m quite sure we will have access to the best young midfielders at the pointy end of the draft for the next 4 years. So like I said, there is no rush to prioritise mids given our lack of young KPPs as well.

Why do we need 2 more key position players as a priority over our midfield?
Because rebuilds aren’t done in one trade and draft period.

Nor is there a Matt Rowell caliber mid in this draft who can come in and contribute meaningfully from his first season.

There looks to be better top end midfield prospects in next years draft. Especially when one of the very top kids is a SA kid.

You will be much better served playing the kids you’ve drafted the last two drafts, next year through the midfield to start with.

Schoenberg and Jones should at least be rotating between the wings and on the ball this year and next.

And then you still have your GWS pick to draft a mid. The possible prospects available at the GWS pick aren’t that far behind the top mid in this draft.

Agreed, Tigers just won the flag with Lynch/Reiwoldt as their 2 key forwards. Tilthorpe and Fog can play similar roles for us moving forward. Put some quality small and mid sized forwards around them and that is the forward line sorted.

Our midfield is non existent, we need at least 2 or 3 elite players in their and the best way to get them is top 5 picks.
