GC were never taking both King boys because Max had/has serious problems moving away from home. Ben on the other hand has the personality to deal with it better. If the Suns picked up both, hoping that Max would adjust because of his brother Ben being with him, it's entirely likely that Max would have left anyway and then Ben would have probably gone not long after with him. The approach GC took has essentially forced Ben to grow up immediately, which seems to have worked so far.

In a perfect world you probably take Ben and Max, I would agree with that. But the reality is if we took both then both probably leave in about 4 years. By taking the one and forcing him to mingle with others and settle on the GC, broaden his horizons, we get him for the long term ideally. So you take the one and 'settle' on Luko being the other option.

GC drafted Luko to be a forward, but our game style doesn't suit lead up forwards at all, hence why he was shifted back. Him being back has led to many scoring chains. He's a very different play to last year.

Rankine is just Rankine, not a lot needs to be said there. You make that pick every day.
Thanks Sunny, interesting perspective.

Are you guys generally happy with Luko?

Hello, anybody home?

Imagine your a non SA lad drafted to the steaming pile of poo that is the AFC. What do you do when you hear your name uttered by the AFC? That's right, you speak to your manager to get the wheels in motion to get you out of here as soon as you can.

We've always had the go home problem, even when we were good, imagine how much worse it will be now!

Identify SA kids to draft at every pick we have, starting with Thilthorpe at pick 2, after bidding on JUH at pick 1 :) I've got no doubt McAsey is on his bike home to Covic at the end of next year.

We missed the boat previous years, particularly 2018 ND, in our present situation it's a drafting reality, go local!

That’s fair enough mate also giving my two cents on mostly on his testing which most people don’t have access too and his ground level work which did look good especially in his game against East Perth this year.

I had him at 16 and it was the contested marking that I hadn’t seen him showcase in his bottom year, always thought he lead and jumped at the ball well but didn’t get to see him really excel at the contested side. His games this year have all but squashed all my main queries on him which sees him as a certain top 10 pick for me now.

Baldwin very unlucky with injury, still feel he is a top 10 level talent but will be hard to take early because of another knee injury, he was a better contested marker than McDonald before this year.
One knee I'm not as worried about, depending on how bad it is .....but two, I agree sends up red flags on Baldwin

I mean the second injury is not as bad but it’s still a worry, Tanner Bruhn is another highly talented kid but has had so many different injuries you just hope his body can sustain AFL.

can you imagine what Haas and the rest of 'our' fitness team would do to Baldwin if we drafted him. I'd say unless it is a total clearout of the fitness department and an entirely new regime is brought in then just forget about Adelaide even taking a punt on him

IIRC he was very impressive in the U17 all-stars match last year ........so who would you suggest Adelaide take at #1 ?

Our Achilles heel is midfield speed and a big bodied midfielder with some toe .....Bont was blocking our mids at centre bounces all night on the weekend

But we also equally need a leaping contested marked forward

I’d take Hollands personally.

Trew and O’Driscoll should become bigger inside mids with Trew more likely at the 2nd pick. O’Driscoll has the height and speed and might have the most ‘Bont’ potential out of anyone in this draft. A ripper country boy too who I feel won’t be one to want to go home.

the way McAsey has played in recent weeks its as if he’s checked out already..

there were some plays he was involved in on the weekend where he didn’t even look the slightest bit interested in providing a contest.

Game before last M King and Luko went pretty much head to head.

Luko 21 poss @81%, 4 marks, 7 R50’s, 3 I50’s, 8 interceptions, 549m gained.

M King 6 poss @67%, 3 marks, 1 goal, 3 I50’s, 4 tackles.

Obviously they play different roles and I’m certainly not having a crack at King who looks brilliant, but to continually slag Luko as you do is fairly petty just to keep trying to prove yourself right.

You can keep going but it’s not changing those numbers.
if you are watching the game on now - Lukosius kicking is a masterclass - he is a rolls royce and as he gets stronger he is going to be something else

I'm not as convinced on McDonald as a couple .....not in the top 20 Draft Pick Contention at years start, but that's not the reason
Just on this, I don't feel like I saw anyone but Knightmare suggest he wasn't top 20 material, like eDPS said there were queries on his marking from some, but largely viewed as more likely first round than not

This was my understanding as well ....talk of him as a #1 pick is a massive ranking jump off the back of 3 WAFL games

Wouldn't happen so fast any other year, but with VIC kids out for the most of the year and his improvement being that much better than anyone elses it makes sense

Hasn't Knightmare changed his tune and called him number 1 in the draft?
