He has but he’s only young
Top 10 talent wise I believe Mutineer thoughts on that ?

If can get him with pick 20 or 30 it’s still a good get

Just like Kemp in last years draft
Kemp had a bit more "recent" form to go on having starred in a variety of roles at the U18 Championships and had only had the 1 knee reco, Baldwin has virtually played no football since the U16's unless you count his first outing in the 2019 SANFL Reserves where he unfortunately did his first ACL. He did however test at the 2020 Pre-season testing and put up some promising numbers considering he was coming off a year long rehab.

Big risk - Big reward but are AFL teams going to go early on him....I doubt they will personally and I'm not sure Adelaide is in that position if we're full blown rebuilding.

Work colleague of mine has a close friend who works at the club
Said it’s been made clear a huge focus on SA talent this year and going forward
Gotta stop the bleeding of talent leaving

Thus why can see us taking a punt on Baldwin

Yes its about his knee.

And yes I would have concerns over our medical assessments or our interpretation of these assessments. 2 knee recos is 1 too far for me for a midfielder
That's the thing though Elijah's more proven as an amazingly talented forward moreso than a midfielder though he did play midfield impressively in the 2019 Futures game Grand Final day. No doubt he'd have moved into the midfield for the Bushies this year and likely also spent time in the midfield for Vic Country at the Championships if fit. He's only had the one knee reco?

Doubt that would be the thinking of Hamish or list management unless it comes down to a line ball decision on 2 individual players, doesn't make sense to choose an inferior SA draftee over a superior interstate draftee unless their intel tells them the interstate draftee is a massive flight risk.

All I’m getting at is expecting a huge influx of SA Draftees

Can't see why this year will be any different to any other in that regard unless Hamish and his crew rate the SA lads higher than other teams like I said in my previous post. Would seem a waste of resources to have scouts on the payroll in other states if we're going to disregard their intel in favour of the homegrown product regardless.

Well to be honest we’ve done a pretty good job of watching SA talent walk out the door anyway.

This theory hasn't worked for us though. The players with marginally better talent end up going home and we end up having to draft someone new.
This revolving door strategy has led to a playing group of inexperienced players.

We need a higher percentage of SA players on list similar to what Port, Freo and WC have. Those teams have double the amount of home grown players of what we have.
You could argue Fremantle isn't a good example to follow, but WC is.

Then pursue SA's Tom Sparrow with real vigour in the trade period if we want a young mid that's been in the system for 2 years and not getting a look in at the Demons.

Baldwin
Borlase
Durdin

Trading for Hately and Valente
What have you seen from Borlase that makes you think he's a must have?

I was hoping we'd get a better gauge on his draftability at the Championships but that seems unlikely now.
My thinking on him going into this season was rookie list? Yours?

Where does he play at AFL level given there's not many 191cm KPD's nowadays in the AFL system

That is likely, it does seem like SA football has really come on in the last 5 years.

I doubt we'll target someone because SA, but the talent level has genuinely picked up.

Could be a third tall/med def. depending on his disposal skills.

Though it certainly isn't promising at the moment.

Playing today for WWT against Norwood is Lachlan Jones. Looks ready to walk into AFL. I think he's a PA academy player but that should not stop us looking at him. Not sure if that ties him to PA. I think he will go high.

This NGA stuff is criminal. He's just a local player. I'm sure NGA was never meant to be a deviation from drafting.PA will get a beauty.

Kind of is. It's trying to bring an academy system in without actually removing the draft (seeing that'd massively compromise the competition, however, I personally don't care about that as we would massively benefit from such a move).

The move to allow players who were born overseas, even to Australia parents was kind of interesting though. Surely there should have been a stipulation that both parents needed to have emigrated to Australia. Still, I'm not complaining if that doesn't happen, as it potentially allows us to exploit it

Arent we getting Borlase just because he was born in Egypt?

It's why he's eligible.
